Late to read and review, because of a hiatus. I remember being not convinced by this book to begin with, but it won me over quite thoroughly. I'm aware there's supposed to be a sequel, and I hope it does get written and published.

Late to the review on this, since I haven't logged into this site since I logged in to access this book. It was SENSATIONAL and I anxiously await the sequel.

I first downloaded Hild as an advanced reading copy in 2013 and spent several weeks immersed in this richly detailed historical novel. I confess, I skimmed over most of the unusual words and descriptions (and there were A LOT of them!) in order to focus on the characters, which were wonderfully drawn. Fast forward three years and you find me finding Hild on a display table at my library. I picked up and read it again and found it even more compelling and beautiful the second time around. While I am certain the author did extensive research into the time period, I am equally certain she overused her knowledge a bit. I still found myself skipping over the more complicated sections devoted to description of ancestors and landscapes, but savoring the passages about Hild and her family. This is a complicated book that takes some serious devotion to read, but it is totally worth it.
