This is a book about motherhood, specifically motherhood with toddlers. It's a strange book, funny at times but presenting an unsettling picture of motherhood. It examines just how much mothers are expected to do for their children. The characters in this book are all mothers and students at the Little Academy, a prestigious preschool where a young teacher is found dead. Part of the story is told by police interview notes while questioning the 4 year olds and their mothers, all of whom can be considered witnesses or perhaps suspects. The mystery is of course an important part of the story but not in my mind the most important part. The social commentary on motherhood is spot-on. The mothers are dealing in their own ways with being the "perfect" mothers and worrying how others judge them, a problem shared by all mothers. They deal with it all even if they have a husband in the picture. The kids always "want my mommy". They are also dealing with a strange malady that seems to be going around the school that gives "cutting teeth" a whole new meaning. This book is dark and somewhat gross, if you think snottiness and tumblers of blood are gross. The plot is unique, the characters well developed and believable, and there are a few unexpected twists thrown in. January LaVoy is the perfect narrator for this book. She does an excellent job with the narration, voicing each character in a unique way. Her well modulated voice is a joy to listen to.

This is a novel for anyone interested in exploring the complexities of parenthood via the prism of dark humor. This isn't a horror tale about vampiric toddlers terrorizing a suburban town. It's a metaphor for how children may figuratively drain the life out of their parents, particularly their mothers.
Don't go in expecting a popcorn thriller either. This story requires thought, and while it is easily digestible, it is a little slower paced. Having said that, it manages to pull off a mystery with some surprising twists, while also analyzing the cultural expectations we place on women and incorporating some wonderful dark humor along the way.

If Chandler Baker writes a new book, sign me up first to read it because every book she writes entertains me. CUTTING TEETH continues that pattern. It's witty, makes you think, and a little bit disturbing - everything I like in a book. I thought it was a play on words in a book blurb about preschool children drinking blood, but no, Baker wrote a book about preschool children drinking blood. And every other part surrounding that strange ordeal keeps you salivating until the end.
A big round of applause needs to be given to January LaVoy as the audiobook narrator. She's exceptional at bringing this story and all the characters of every age to life.
Thanks, Macmillian Audio, for the gifted book!

What an interesting concept for a thriller! Wow.
This book follows a group of moms and their 4 year old kids after their teacher has been murdered and the kids have started having a strange desire for blood.
I just don't even know where to begin with this book because I'm still yelling out WHAT THE FUCK?! This book makes you question just how far mothers are willing to go to protect their children.
I truly enjoyed so many aspects of this book. The writing and narrating did an amazing job keeping the multiple POV's seperate (as long as you were paying attention). I did find myself having to rewind several times because I did get slightly bored as the buildup was happening and would lose focus. However, this book needed that. I felt like I was constantly processing what the heck was going on and still wondering where in the world the book was possibly going next.
A truly one of kind thriller!

Wow!! What a crazy intense story! It’s like nothing I’ve read before. Featuring little ones that can be creepy and the mothers who’ll do anything to protect them. #ChandlerBaker has quite the creative mind! I love how she also shows how real it is for moms to go through so much & just struggle to do their best! There’s so much I could say, but I can’t give away any spoilers!
January LaVoy is the incredible audiobook narrator!
Thank you, Chandler Baker, Macmillan Audio & Netgalley for my early audiobook! All opinions are my own.

This is now my favorite of Chandler's!!! What a gross, gruesome, odd and frightening storyline (IN. THE. BEST. WAY!).
If a million other things hadn't solidified that I'm not having kids, this would've been a wonderful addition to the list I give people when they ask. I LOVED the premise, but also the underlying themes of motherhood that are often overlooked & misunderstood. It was a brutal commentary on the things that women give up when they become mothers, whether they wanted to or not- their identity, their body, etc,,,,and in this case, quite literally- their own flesh and blood.
Changing POVs were done so well by our narrator, January LaVoy- I was CACKLING when the kids were telling their sides of the story....kids are such little unreliable narrators, and for the police to be leaning on them for good evidence was comical.
There really wasn't anything I disliked about this book and I've already recommended it to my friends and fellow readers...except those who can't stomach blood...then some of the scenes in the book would probably make them faint.
1000000 stars for this blood-sucking good read!

This story was nothing like I expected it’s sort of a suspenseful twist on motherhood.
When these children start preschool and the parents soon notice the children are craving blood, you wonder are they vampires?
The use of the children and this medical condition weaves a story of mothers facing societal struggles and how they deal with them on a daily basis in this unique thought provoking way. Overall it was a unique story l didn’t really love it but I didn’t dislike it either.
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this novel in exchange for a fair and honest review.
WOW! Talk about ingenuity, fun, and thrilling, I absolutely loved Cutting Teeth by Chandler Baker. I will listen to just about anything narrated by January LaVoy, that being said, this story was a knockout. It scores so high in my mind based on the creative plot alone. The audio production was phenomenal, I loved the bits of music, the introduction of the detective interviewing the students, and LaVoy's voice brings each character to life. She especially nailed the kids' voices.
This book starts out pretty predictably- a lot of fretting over classes, teachers, other students, but the personalities are in-your-face from the jump. As soon as the first bite happens, it's all downhill in the most delightful way for the preschoolers and moms. I am a former coach of youth sports, and I really got a kick out of the portrayal of the different mom personalities and how each character developed.
This book is a breeze to listen to, I finished it in one weekend. I couldn't get enough, by the ending I was very excited to see how it would play out! It was an equally predictable and unpredictable ending, the twists kept coming up until the end, which I liked a lot.
This is my favorite book by Chandler Baker to date, can't wait to read more.
Thank you once again to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this, it was a blast. One of those audiobooks that reminds you why you enjoy them, I got lost in the story and loved it.

Thank you MacMillan publisher, Chandler Baker, and Netgalley for this book in exchange for this audio. I was really excited to be granted early listening to this for a couple of reasons. First, my very first audio book I ever tried and listened to was The Whisper Network I won from goodreads. It was what got me into audios in the first place so this author will always have a special place in my heart. 2 I love January LaVoy. Narration was awesome. Writing was good. It has some funny parts to the story. There was a nice twist at the end of the book. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 solid stars for this one!

What a weird book. A lot of it didn't really add up at the end. Like it made us keep reading and then turned into nothing

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to receive an audio copy of Cutting Teeth by Chandler Baker, this review is mine and mine alone. This story was crazy, and you see the lives of a few different parents and what they are going through along with how they are connected by their kids all in the same class. Then add in murder, a strange new pastor, and blood drinkers. It would cause all sorts of pandemonium. And it truly did. It made you wonder who it was and why it happened. Things starts to unravel as the time goes on and everyone nearly has a deep dark secret. Some of the secrets are worse than others but that is part of the charm of this book. If you enjoy murder mysteries that have a lot going on around it, you will truly enjoy this one.

This thriller was so fun! Creepy children and the audio was great with the little voices. This was a highly original concept - bizarre and fascinating and I loved every minute of it!

I enjoyed Cutting Teeth, though it wasn't exactly what I expected. For some reason I thought it would be a dark comedy, but mostly it was just dark.

This was such a different sort of story. The double takes I gave my phone while listening to the audio came frequently and it’s been quite awhile since that happened.
I received the audio through NetGalley and the narrator was a perfect fit in my opinion. Since this book centers around mothers and their young children, this narrator was absolute perfection.
The story itself had its moments. While there were plenty that I had to double take, there were also plenty of places that felt a bit monotonous and there were several parents that I just plain didn’t like. It felt realistic since that’s how parent groups are in real life too - there’s others you connect with while there are some you just don’t - and I appreciate that. They symbolism in this book could really mean many things from it just being a creepy story to a physical symbol of kids draining their parents (specifically their mothers). It works.
If you can handle blood and other creepy things, I’d give this book a try. It’s pretty solid.

This was a phenomenal audiobook, the production was so well done and January’s narration of all the characters was spectacular!
“Everyone is hiding something in one way or another.”
When their children’s preschool teacher is killed just after many of the children begin to display signs of juvenile vampirism, the parents of Little Academy are left in a state of panic. Everyone becomes a suspect as they seek to learn the truth.
I loved the concept of this book and its commentary on motherhood. The beginning and ending were quite strong, but the story’s middle left me underwhelmed. Despite that I am still looking forward to reading from the author again.
Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for an ALC of the title in exchange for my honest review.

WOWZA This book was a bit crazy! I feel if I try and explain it at all I will give away important parts. I do suggest going in blind, its a good book to not know what's going on until it happens!! If you like thrillers read this. Its a book into its own!

This was such a unique story and the narrator was absolutely fantastic. I'm not a mom yet, but Cutting Teeth made me respect all women, especially mothers, more. I loved the alternating POVs and the precocious children. While I didn't entirely connect with parts of the story I did enjoy it!

Cutting Teeth Review!!
Thank you Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for this gifted copy, in exchange for an honest review! Cutting Teeth is out now!
I love creepy kids, but a whole classroom full of them?? That’s what I’m talking about! 😄 Cutting Teeth was a 3.25/5 ⭐️ for me! I went into this one thinking it was going to be a very suspenseful horror book. It turned out to be more so a drama, which was the reason for the 3.25 stars. The narration of this book was incredible though. Probably my new favorite narrator and her kid voices (there were a lot of them) were each so unique and incredible. 5/5 ⭐️ for Ms. LaVoy!!
Synopsis: When a young teacher is found dead in her preschool classroom, the parents are in shock. The only eye witnesses are 10 four year olds, but strange things start to occur and they are quickly turned into suspects as well.

Ooooo, this one was so deliciously dark! With equal parts satirical and chilling, this one dives deep into modern motherhood and the performance pressures mothers tend to face!
I found it incredibly thought provoking as it explores Pediatric Renfield’s Syndrome which is also known as clinical vampirism, and if you haven’t put it together yet, that’s the desire for drinking blood, but pediatric being a children’s version! 😳
Told from multiple POVs, I found the narration of the audio version utterly fantastic! I relished in the mixed media of interviews and news articles that were sprinkled throughout!
With a whodunit and murder mystery at its core, I found this plot very entertaining and loved how thrillingly witty it was! It was uniquely clever, definitely different and certainly weird, but it totally worked!

I just listened to Cutting Teeth and the narration was perfection. It is the story of a preschool class of 4 year olds who are craving the taste of blood and the kids and their moms get caught up in a criminal investigation at the school. This book had it all. It was suspenseful with little red herrings tossed out so perfectly that I had no idea where it was going and who was guilty. It had snarky dry wit making fun of the helicopter moms of these little vampires. It had moms whining about their mental load, annoying husbands and overall stress. And it had all the little kids being interviewed by the detectives with all their cuteness and funny kid comments. There is something about how @chandlerbakerbooks describes the thoughts of a mom, particularly a working mom, that just really hits home for me and makes me think she truly gets me. I loved everything about this book.
