This was a great start to the Immortals Chronicles series, it does a great job in creating a unique fantasy element. The characters felt like they belonged in this universe and I thought it worked overall. I was hooked from the first page and glad I got to read this book. I’m excited to read where this series will go.

Review: I thought phrasing was some remnant of writing days gone by…but, it is once again reborn in this two part series. Take mischevious for instance and add “glint”, “smile”, “grin”, “prank”, “flashed”, “sparkled”, “grinned”, “glimmer”, “sparks”, “grinning” over and over and over again. I don’t get it. This writer is good enough to construct non-repetitive phrasing in order to expedite the scene development. Just frikin’ stop. It’s easy. What it does is devalue the story line and render the characters pedantic.

Not all was bad here besides suspending your disbelief that all 14 year old children can beat the snot out of any accomplished adult. Or that the entirety of the worlds solvable problems coinicidentaly rest in the hands of Orphan(s). The plot has some minor holes but is still pretty good. The movement was great and the character development was also well established in a slow reveal rather than coupled to the movement.

I liked this. I would have loved it if the writing could have tightened it’s belt a little.

A classic chosen one hero trope with a young boy as the protagonist. But, sometimes classic is good, and while there's nothing particularly new here, it's still an enjoyable read filled with action and adventure.
