I loved this book, it was a bit of a slow burn but it was an inspiring tale of people connecting over the burnout culture of the world. It was a nice healthy amount of reality while still taking you away as you read the book. Great character development in the book and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this book. My two favorite genres are romance and self help so this was a wonderful mix of the two. Light-hearted joking and real-world advice on the self-help side don't worry it is still very much a romance book!

Thanks @netgalley for the ecopy! Had meant to read this sooner but mood reader me didnโt get to it til the end of 2023.
Sasha is burnt out and boy, do I feel her! But whatโs worse is her helicopter mom dictating her โwellness breakโ and a stranger judging her for all of it. I genuinely felt her embarrassment. And isnโt that how it sometimes goes? We try to finally take a much needed break and yet things go awry, or are anything but peaceful and relaxing?
But sheโs not just burnt out from work; a big subplot is that she seems to have lost her desire for certain โextracurriculars between the sheetsโ โฆ or wherever two infatuated individuals find themselves. Yikes! Now this review sounds as humorous and awkward as the book itself! There were several parts that made me laugh or simply smile without it being too cheesy. Predictable? Certainly, in ways. But there were also some good reminders to not judge based off first impressions, give second chances, to take care of oneself, seek out the things that bring us joy, and to have hope.

Content and trigger warnings include some quick references to genitalia, a few sexual innuendos and content (nothing explicit), and some profanity. I give it 3.5 out of 5.

I enjoyed this read a lot! I felt like it was really relatable, loved the love interest in the book and it picked up for me quite a bit when I wasnโt sure what to think of it. The ending felt a bit rushed and left me with more questions, but I really like this read, the main characters and I would definitely recommend!

Relatable with a touch of sappy love and whimsy, this is Sophie Kinsella and why we love her!
Life is tough and it's great to read stories about relatable characters needing a break! The Burnout is a good reminder of our daily tasks and how most of us burn the candle at both ends... craving success and achievement when we are attaining... neither.
Fun holiday read!

This book starts with a good premise, but I had a really hard time following where it was going. I felt like it was trying way too hard to be crazy and funny and it just did not hit correctly. The book felt super long and drawn out with not a lot of real plot happening.
A cute story but donโt recommend it if you are looking for a solid romance book.

Sasha is overworked and overstressed and finally breaks. She takes a vacation at a resort by the beach that she went to as a child. When she arrives she is upset to see that it is not the same as it was when she was younger. She begins to interact with the other guests and staff. The staff go out of their way to give her healthy options because her mom has them convinced she is on a health binge. She learns that she will have to share the beach with a grumpy, burned out guy. Finn is at the resort for the same reasons and needed a break.
This book follows these two characters as they reminisce about coming to this place years ago with their families. Sasha begins to heal and this story is filled with love, memories, meeting new friends and getting acquainted with old friends. I love her books and we will be adding this to our list of books to purchase.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for allowing me to review this book as an arc.

I usually love Sophie Kinsella's books, but this one just did not do it for me. I found the main character to be whiny and immature. I did not finish this book. I'm sure other readers will love it.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC!
The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella follows Sasha who suffers from, you guessed it, burnout. This story was funny and relatable at times, however, I found it to drag on too much. I really enjoyed the beginning of the book, however, it started to lose me the more I read. It felt unrealistic and hard to follow. Bit of a disappointment, but I'm looking forward to seeing what Kinsella writes in the future!

Sophie Kinsella can do wrong! This book is a must-read for all 20 and 30-somethings who are still figuring out what they want their lives to look like...and it also poses as an excellent reminder that things don't always go the we planned them to!

This book was awesome! I love the whole self care vibe, mental health is most often neglected. I laughed out loud so many times reading this and I swooned just as much over the unlikely romance. This was such a fun and light hearted read. Thank you Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group - Random House for the ARC in exchange for my review.

The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella
Format: eARC
๐๐๐๐
I admit, Sophie Kinsella books are an automatic read for me. So having the opportunity to read this ARC was a win for me. The Burnout is about exactly that. Sasha is a corporate employee who has always put her job first. Until she doesnโt. When forced to participate in the employer โjoyfulness programโ she decides to leave and go to her childhood seaside resort to try to recover.
Finn is also trying to find what is important to him. He also chooses to go to the resort where he meets Sasha and together they seek answers to why they are so burnt out and what to do about it.
This is a relatable, funny, and sweet romance. Many people struggle with work/life balance. Fortunately for Sasha and Finn they were able to do this in a beautiful setting, and eventually, with each other. They had fights, challenges, and mysteries, along the way. The characters are likeable and engaging. The supporting characters add to the humor and play a part in bringing these two together. It is a fun and enjoyable read leaving the reader feeling a little hopeful.
Many thanks to NetGalley, The Dial Press, and the author, for the opportunity to read this eARC for my honest review.

Sasha has had enough.! Her work load has pushed her over the top, and after a meltdown at work, she finds herself taking time off at a beach resort she visited as a child. Though a bit rundown and not the same as she remembered, she finds being there is the balm she needed. Over the course of a couple weeks, Sasha finds herself taking account of her life, making some new friends, and reacquainting herself with people from her past.
As she figures out how to move forward, she also learns how to make room for love. A satisfying read with a few good surprises too, I enjoyed this latest book by a favorite author.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and have written an objective review.

I have read so many of Sophie Kinsella's books before this one so I anticipated loving it. I enjoyed the idea of Sasha on her remote holiday in the dead of winter while her mom sent silly requests to the staff as her "assistant".
Where Christmas Shopaholic was a laugh out loud, couldn't put down book, The Burnout was more of a giggle. It moved very slow and I found myself taking much longer to read it than I normally would one of Kinsella's books. Thank you Netgalley and The Dial Press for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book!

"The Burnout" by Sophie Kinsella is a lighthearted, fun book about reconnecting, dealing with burnout, and trying to find what makes you truly happy while living it. We can *all* relate to feeling burned out on life and work, right? This book felt extremely relatable in that aspect. Main characters Sasha and Finn have terrific chemistry and amazing banter with one another. Though they begin the story as enemies, they eventually find common ground and find their way to one another. They are both pretty cantankerous, finicky characters, which makes their dialogue all the more delightful. I remained invested in these two from the beginning. I will say, though, that I think the ending could have used a little bit of work. In fact, I didn't love the entire third act. I think what happens with Finn's character's backstory came out of nowhere and kind of ruined the story as a whole, which is why I marked it down half of a star rating. It all gets a bit messy and unnecessary. The first two-thirds of the book is easy to read and highly enjoyable. I loved all of the side characters and the zany situations, especially involving the hilarious staff at the hotel where Sasha and Finn are staying. This was my first time reading a novel by Sophie Kinsella, and I quite enjoyed her writing style. I will definitely read more of her books in the future!

Love the concept of this one. It was a bit slower than I was wanting though. It was kind of the point with it being about burnout and all, but I still needed a bit more action or desperation to the story. I liked that all the plot points were neatly wrapped up and explored.

I love original ideas and the storyline and premise of this is unique to books I've read, but the burnout issue is somewhat familiar. I identified with Sasha as she was feeling overwhelmed and I envied her opportunity to take off and leave everything behind. I appreciated the feeling of trying to return to a place that was filled with happy memories only to find that things have changed and it no longer holds the same lustre that it once did. I was amused by the territorial nature that Sasha felt regarding Finn and the hotel and how eventually, they were able to recognize a kinship in each other that morphed into something more.
It wasn't a typical meet cute kind of love story but it had a cathartic feeling about it that resonated with me.
