Heidi Kimball never disappoints. She always delivers a story that sticks with me for days. It was a beautiful and heartfelt story that I will definitely be picking up again and recommending to all my historical romance loving friends.

Lady Charlotte Darrington’s path is set as she will one day inherit her father’s Scottish dukedom, but she wants to experience more of life before she settles down. Her cousin has made plans to go to America, and Charlotte gets permission to go with him. When they arrive in Pittsburgh, Charlotte is introduced to Dr. Alec Galloway, who is brusque and distant to her from their very first meeting. But Charlotte and Alec are thrown together when Charlotte’s chaperone takes ill and they start to see each other in a different light. Charlotte soon discovers why Alec has isolated himself from those who love him and she’s determined to help him find happiness again. But will she find happiness with him, too?

This emotional romance was full of tender moments, but also plenty of laugh out loud scenes, including some that feature a pig! The author has done a wonderful job of showing how grief can change a life and healing may take time. There are several touching moments as both Alec and Charlotte deal with the trials they are facing, both individually and together. Although there were times when the story felt more about Alec’s issues since Charlotte doesn’t have as heavy of an emotional burden, the reader will still come to love both our hero and heroine. A Not-So-Distant Love is a charming early American romance with a sweet ending you won’t want to miss.

Thank you net galley for the advance reader copy of this novel. I've enjoyed this author on the past and this book was sweet. I liked the historical bits that were researched.

I loved this so much! Heidi Kimball is an auto-buy author for me, and I was so excited to read this one. It didn't disappoint. I really loved that this book was set in Pittsburg. I generally lean towards books set in the UK (or Europe), so it was fun to read a novel that was in the same time period, but a different location. Charlotte and Alex were such great characters. Their interactions were fun, and I loved the progression of their relationship. I can't wait for the next book!

I loved Heart in the Highlands by Heidi Kimball. So I was so excited to see this book, about Charlotte. She was the daughter in that book. And this book did not disappoint. I loved that it was just as epic as the first one.

Charlotte is one of the most brave characters I've read. She not only decides to leave her home in Scotland, where everything is familiar and happy, but she decides to help Dr Alec Galloway figure out his life. One of my very favorite scenes is one in which she insists he doctor a pig when he definitely does not want to. I love that she was a force to be reckoned with.

Alec was a great kind of man. He felt things deeply. I loved watching his journey of forgiveness of himself. And that he was able to recognize that he needed to forgive and move on. I also loved how deeply he cared about others as a doctor.

This book is such a great one! Make sure to read it for yourself.

I got a copy of A Not So Distant Love from Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this novel by Heidi Kimball. The historic aspect especially the main part set in America as really fascinating. I love how Charlotte is being raised to be a duchess but she is so down to earth, intelligent and spirited. Alec is troubled and broken, but he still has a good heart even when he comes across as grump or rude. The two of them keep ending up in misunderstandings, but Charlotte is courageous enough to not let go until they finally understand each other.
I loved the challenges they faced and eventually overcame because it felt so genuine and relatable even if it was a completely different time period.

First of all, love the cover art of this one. Stunning!

Lady Charlotte Darrington is destined to inherit her father’s Scottish dukedom. She has not married yet and has decided she needs one last adventure before embarking on that stifling future she is destined for. She chooses to travel to America- Pittsburgh and stay with acquaintances there. Assumptions are made by a Dr. Galloway about what kind of woman Charlotte is and his remarks about her seriously sour her towards him. Through different interactions they come to know each other and understand each other better and we get to watch that journey unfold. I enjoyed this story a lot. Creative and enjoyable.

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I loved this story!
It's kind of a sequel to Heart in the Highlands as Charlotte is the daughter of Kate and Callum. After having her heart broken in London, she jumps at the chance to travel with her cousin Tavish to Pittsburgh.
There she meets Alec, a doctor with a tragic past. Despite their rocky first meeting, they eventually become friends.
I also loved the funny moments with the pig!

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

This is a sequel to Heart in the Highlands, a riveting book that tells the story of Charlotte’s parents. Although A Not-So-Distant Love can certainly be read alone, you’ll want to read Heart in the Highlands, too, as it is excellent.

Set in Pittsburgh in 1835, A Not-So-Distant Love features Lady Charlotte Darrington, who will inherit her father’s dukedom in Scotland, and Dr. Alec Galloway, whose tragic past has left him wary of relationships. The characters are well-drawn and engaging, including a pig that tends to steal the show. As Charlotte searches for more purpose in her life, she finds herself drawn to Alec.

Beautifully written and well-researched, this book showcases author Heidi Kimball’s talents and illustrates why she is one of my favorite historical fiction writers. I’m looking forward to reading more of her stories in the future. 4.5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. I was especially interested because it was set in the United States. I thought it was fun to see how a member of the ton would be treated in the USA at that time.
I loved the characters especially the main two. I wasn’t sure how the author would end the book happily and worried it would end with me being unsatisfied- I won’t say much but I was really happy when I finished.
I loved all the doctoring parts especially when Charlotte helps Alec with things.
This book had some sad parts but also plenty of romance and lots of funny parts. It was well written and entertaining.

A Not-So-Distant Love by Heidi Kimball is wonderful! I truly wish I had made time to read it sooner! Lady Charlotte is a delightful, fiery, spirited, titled young woman. She travels to Pittsburgh with her cousin and immediately clashes with the quiet doctor, Dr. Alec Galloway. I got so caught up in his story and background that I could not help but root for him. Charlotte soon sees the treasure beneath the bear and determines to become his friend. The chemistry quickly sparks flames and I love their growth. They fit together perfectly. The whole story is full of charming backstory and historical context, which just added to the delight of it all. I highly recommend this to all lovers of clean, sweet, inspirational, historical fiction.

This cozy story is full of heart. Heidi Kimball has a talent for writing second-chance romance. Where the first novel in this series, A Heart in the Highlands, shared a story of second-chance romance where the characters come back together, A Not-So-Distant love shares how the two main characters worked through their own grief and heartbreak to discover happiness with each other. Lady Charlotte and Dr. Alec have a lot of obstacles to overcome, but their journey is a beautiful story full of redemption, faith, and triumph.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced copy to review. All opinions shared in this review are my own.

Let's start with this - while this *could be read as a standalone, the depth and meaning of the story is SO MUCH GREATER if you've read Heart in the Highlands.

Charlotte has suffered from heartbreak and is feeling restless. She decides to go with her cousin (who's really like a brother) to America - to Pittsburgh. Only knowing that she needs Something she follows that feeling to half a world away. Charlotte is a strong character who isn't afraid of being who she is. She also is willing to go after what she wants. I loved that aspect in particular.

What she finds there is Alec, a man who has shut himself off from the world and from life. But Charlotte has always been one to help wounded and hurting creatures and can't help but try to reach out to offer friendship - and perhaps more. What follows is a beautiful story of how we cope with hurt and pain and fear. This story is equally as powerful in its story of hope and healing as its predecessor was in forgiveness and redemption.

Don't miss out on this book!

Thanks to NetGalley for an eARC. All thoughts are my own.

"True love, lasting love, is forged in the deepest valleys and over the rockiest terrain. It is in the crevasses of uncertainty, on the steepest, most winding trails, that our hearts are bent, broken, and reshaped into something capable of great love. And when we've proven ourselves capable of enduring such, the vistas come."

✨Book Review✨

I have been in a reading slump for the last few months and needed something new to read. A Not-So-Distant love by @authorheidikimball recently released and it did not disappoint! I loved every minute of it and it has made me want to read again.

I love that we get to see a grown up Charlotte from Hearts in the Highland. She has a lot to responsibilities on her shoulders as a future duchess. When her cousin decides to travel to America, she takes the opportunity to go with him and have an adventure before she is tied down to her title. Alec is a doctor in Pittsburgh and has dedicated his life to helping others and finding the cause to Cholera.

I loved the relationship between these two! They both have strong personalities and the banter was amazing. They both have had their struggles with love and they help each other grow and heal.

What did I love?
-enemies to lovers! I mean who doesn’t love a good enemies to lovers trope?
-a different historical setting! With this time period I generally read books set in the UK. It was fun to see Pittsburgh in the 1830s.
-I love getting to see characters from past stories. I love knowing that everything worked out for them!
-Charlotte really helped Alec to heal from his past and to be able to be happy and move forward with his life. I love how they supported each other.

I absolutely loved this book! I cannot recommend it enough! This book will make you feel all the feels.

A Not-So-Distant Love takes readers from Scotland to America with familiar characters from Heidi Kimball, and I enjoyed it! I found some parts to be a bit repetitive, but I liked getting to know Charlotte better and meeting Alec, and I hope we see them again in future books. 4/5 stars

What a beautiful book. Heartbreak can be so hard to over come, especially if it's coupled with guilt. I loved watching Lady Charlotte's and Dr Alec's friendship grow and blossom all the while trying to overcome their own personal trials. I really enjoyed it.

Heidi Kimball has quickly become one of our favorite authors. Heart in the Highlands is one of our top books so when word got out about a sequel, we could not wait! This story is about Charlotte, Callum and Katie's daughter and it did not disappoint. Heidi writes strong stories that capture you immediately and we found this one hard to put down. Charlotte heads to America with her cousin to have an adventure and in a way find herself. Little did she know, she would find a love worth fighting for. And fighting she would need to do as her heart gets tangled with a gentleman who wants nothing to do with love. We highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a story that grips your heart, has redemption and depth, and leaves you feeling satisfied!

I hate the word "damaged" when referring to a person who is struggling with their grief, but I know the romance world likes to label Alec as the "damaged hero". Personally, I wouldn't label him at all. It was compelling to see him and Charlotte find love with each other but more so that their love helped to heal them both.

I was slightly lost in the beginning because I realized that there was more the story than I thought. I gather that this a sequel to a previous book; however, I did not find reading this book first to be a major issue in grasping the full plot of the story and the dynamic of the characters. In fact, it made me want to go back and read the first book.

All in all, a great read with strong characters that find solace and peace within each other's hearts.
