Knott has penned a beautiful memoir of the women in her life, grief and self-realisation. Be prepared to shed a few tears.

Helen Knott is one of the most gifted storytellers of our generation. Her writing is a beautiful cadence that evokes such deep emotion in the reader. Becoming a Matriarch is a love letter to the matriarchs in her life, and marks Helen's own journey into becoming a woman.
I was sobbing, literally sobbing, through the passages describing the loss of her mother and grandmother-- the profound love was palpable through the pages.
We are so incredibly blessed that Helen has chosen to share her gift of storytelling with us all-- first with In My Own Moccasins, and now with Becoming a Matriarch. Do yourself a favour and put this at the top of your reading list right now!

Having read In My Own Moccasins: A Memoir of Resilience, this book was enjoyable to me in many ways. Dealing with the loss of matriarchs in her own life, handling grief and becoming a matriarch in her own right. Mesmerizing reading, recommended.

Another beautifully written memoir about mothers and daughters, motherhood, loss, addiction and the way the women in Helen's family were equally strong and weak. At its core though, this is a love letter to the women in Helen's family and the way they valued motherhood above all else. Great on audio read by the author and a must read if you enjoyed her previous book, In my moccasins. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy and Penguin Random House Canada for sending me a lovely gifted finished copy!!
