I didn’t love this book. But it was really cute. It was a quick read/listen. I liked the narrator. The switching pov got confusing a couple times. Lol

I just wasn’t vibing with this story. I felt like there were so many characters and it was so hard to follow on audio. I have so many other books on my tbr that I’m just deciding to move on.

Thank you to Joffe Books and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This was a fun small town romance. I found the switching POVs a bit distracting since there wasn't a clear change in voice and all the POV's were pretty much the same with the exception of being privy to a knew person's thoughts. I was also a bit thrown for a loop that this book did not only focus on one relationship. It wasn't a bad thing but there is no indication of that in the synopsis and it wasn't even super clear that that is where the book was going right away.
Overall I enjoyed the story and the narration was good. The audiobook might not be for everyone because the narrator does narrate in an appropriate accent for the setting (Scottland) but I didn't have an issue with it.

Thank you to Joffebooks, NetGalley and Katy Turner for the audiobook arc to review. All opinions are my own and based on my experience of listening to Let' Just Be Friends.
Dr Holly a vet moves to Scotland for a quieter life and a more gentle pace and has no desire to fall in love. Until the gorgeous man who owns the cottage she is renting turns up. This is very much an enemies to lovers romance and it is so funny. The narration was my favourite as the narrator has the full Scottish accent and it made this audio book an absolute joy to listen to.
The story itself is cute no doubt about it with a happy ever after. I enjoyed all the characters, the friendships and their lives as they go about every day life. You are really brought into this story and feel 100% part of it.
I would highly recommend this audio book it is such a joy to listen to.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape media for the ARC audiobook!
First up, I did very much enjoy the narrator.
However.
This book was not what I was hoping for. I wanted a HEA (Happily Ever After), a cute romance, a bit of a fish-out-of-water story as the main character realizes this new place and people were just what they needed. Something cute and a little bit predictable, but in a good, comforting way. This felt it like was *trying* for all that, but just never actually got there.
Main character Holly was closed off, stubborn, and rigid to possibilities in her life all through the book. Side characters - who kind of inexplicably got POV chapters - Paolo and Chloe were honestly pretty bland. They were broken down to 'shy and flailing when it comes to the man she's interested in' and 'gay man'. We don't know anything else about them other than they all drink at the pub and work at the vet's.
The head vet, Holly's new boss, is a nightmare. Literally yells and screams at all three of them for absolutely no reason while they're doing their jobs. Oh, but he lost his wife a few years ago so it's okay. No, it's not! Holly is supposed to spend a *year* at this small vet practice learning about large animal care as well as the smaller animals (those bits are very good), and her boss is actively hostile towards the whole office but especially Holly. I would have walked out of there on day two, saying 'Screw this' and getting a new job. But ha-ha, what a funny situation to have an abusive boss in this small town that everyone just accepts as totally fine!
As far as the 'romance' with Holly, Paolo, and Chloe (not together, though) finding someone special I was very underwhelmed. A random guy enters the house Holly is renting *while she's in the bath* and she doesn't throw all the things and kick him out? 'Oh, I guess you can sleep on the couch, random guy who I don't know in a new town I've only been in for less than a day.' Sure. Yeah. I'm sorry, was Holly hit on the head recently?!
And then, magically, after he makes her breakfast it's all okay. Maybe she even kind of likes him. But no... not possible. She can't date. Absolutely cannot. Because her Mom traumatized Holly when she was a child with her string of many boyfriends which lead her Mom to neglect Holly emotionally. So men are bad. Boyfriends are bad. Which means Holly can't date ever. I'm sorry, but this whole premise just did not work for me at *all*.
The whole wrap up at the end was INCREDIBLY sudden on all points. The boss turns around and gives Holly the practice after berating her almost every single day for a year. The romantic interest accepts Holly's apology after she rejected him right after he finally opened up and they finally kiss after a full year of dancing around each other. Chloe and her beau have finally told each other that they like each other - but not on the page, even though we did get chapters from Chloe's POV. We just heard about it secondhand afterward. Poor Paolo gets no wrap up at all after being yanked around the whole book.
This book needed a second pass, in my opinion. There's some great kernels of ideas here, but it just never seemed to pop into the sweet & salty popcorn treat it had the potential to be. If you do prefer a completely chaste romance novel with only a kiss or two, then this might be right up your alley.

Cute story, I like the plot . The narrator was good also , a sweet read great debut. Can’t wait for more

Let's Just Be Friends appears to be a debut novel from Katy Turner. This book primarily follows Holly an established veterinarian who moved to Eastercraig, Scotland as a Locum to gain more experience in farm animals. It also follows her 2 coworkers, Chloe and Pablo. Chloe has the 2nd most POVs in the story, a shy one who is secretly in love with Angus Dunbar, a surly farmer who she has known since they were children. Then there is Pablo, he only has a handful of chapters dedicated to his POV, but he moved to Eastercraig and fell in love with a young man who broke his heart and moved away, leaving Pablo the only gay man in this small village...or town.
We have these 3 characters who are very different but also quite similar. Holly not only has some past she's running from but her mother has spent her life hopping from man to man leaving Holly jaded and refuses to fall in love. She also has to deal with Hugh, her new boss at the surgery center who has run off many a locum before her. She is determined to make her year though. So, of course we have her male love interest breaking into her home, that she's rented out, and nearly getting beaten by a terrified Holly. They develop a friendship and Holly questions her ideals on life. So of course in all of this Holly is put in some interesting situations, we have poop, angry animals, happy animals, a neighborhood seal, and romantic comedy antics that will lead our MFC to question everything about her self. The secondary characters are also looking for love and have some pretty interesting antics themselves. This story takes place in the time of 1 year. The chemistry between the friends is really present, but I found the secondary love interests to be more interesting than the primary one. I want to know what happens with Pablo, he's had a hard go at love. Our MMC and MFC are obvious endgame but their love story is kind of bland, and since their interactions are so sparse over the spanse of a year it just wasn't a heart melting type of romance for me. Like I said, Chloe and Pablo would be fun to follow.
As for the narration, I absolutely loved Mhairi Morrison (who also narrated Immortality: A Love Story) and getting to listen to a Scottish persons pronunciation of words was great. I love hearing different dialects. I also especially love how cows is pronounced. Any how, Mhairi was great at performing each character and each was easily to discern. She was able to seamlessly bring you into the story.
I found the story enjoyable overall. It was entertaining, but not especially heart warming as I would expect a romance to be. I would love to see more from this author though I feel like there is a lot of great potential.

This was a really cute book and loved that it featured a vet as I love stories with animals in them. A couple times I got confused at which character was talking when it came to the two main female leads but other then that it was a great read.

Everything I really enjoy in a romancen
Beautiful settings in a small village of the Scottish highlands. Humourous supporting characters, and multiple points of view. The main character was a vet, which leads to interesting client interactions and stories.
Professional challenges, romantic challenges, and small town drama all sorted through and weathered out amongst friends.
I really enjoyed this whole book.

I gave it a good go but I'm at the point where even though I adore the setting, I don't have enough of an investment in the characters to keep going. The narrator, Mhairi Morrison, sounds like she's reading the book without performing - I prefer having narrators with a wide range of tones, cadences, and accents to differentiate between characters and their dialogue.
Thank you to Dreamscape and Netgalley for the alc. All thoughts are my own.

I really wanted to enjoy this book however, it was not for me. The story had great potential but fell short for me. I felt like the backstory took up too much time and the relationships seemed to drag on. I was hoping for a fun, flirty romcom but it was not, in my opinion. The characters had similar names which got confusing for me listening to the audiobook. I wasn't able to keep the relationships and storylines straight. I did enjoy the small town feel and the attempted storyline of the life change. Overall, its worth a try, just not for me. I just reviewed Let's Just Be Friends by Katy Turner. #LetsJustBeFriends #NetGalley

3 stars.
This was an easy listen and I flew through it. Its a pretty generic romance book with a vet and a seaside town. Enjoyable but not groundbreaking imo.
Thanks to NG for the ARC and I wish the author the very best of luck.

Narrated by Mhairi Morrison ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fantastic voice! I could listen to Mhairi Morrison over and over and over.
Let's Just Be Friends by Katy Turner ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
So after listen to this I immediately went to the Kindle store wanting another story from Katy Turner shocked to find THIS IS THE ONLY ONE!!!
I absolutely loved loved loved this this book.
The pace was fantastic.
The characters felt so much like my mates I had to stop and remember that this is a book and I don't actually know these people.
I would recommend this book to everyone in every age group. It's fantastic.

Holly is a cheerful and confident veterinarian, who has plan for everything. Something she didn't plan was moving from London to a small town in Scotland. And the guy, who breakes in to her apartment is one of the best looking men she's seen.
But Holly doesn't do flings and at this point in life she isn't looking for THE ONE either. So they simply have to stay friends, right?
More or less this was a description of the book that readers get given, so no wonder that you would expect a cheesy romcom moment, but it's not like that.
If you would like to read about two brothers fighting, girl, who works as a vet, but is scared from horses or other big animals and her friends sitting at a pub or going on dates, then go for it! This just wasn't for me. And why put 3 characters that we have to follow only to get closure for only one of them?
Anyway, big cuddos to the people who did the audio of this book, loved the accents. Although two friends have simmilar names and with scotish accent it was almost imposible to tell about which friend is the current story.

I love a cute classic romance. I love that this book had everything I wanted. I wasn't shocked or surprised by anything. I needed this! perfect!

Thank you to NetGalley for the audio ARC. The narrator was very good and so was the book. This story between Holly and Greg was a slow burn. The romance was sweet, but I really enjoyed the supporting characters. Would like a story of Chloe and Hamish, Grumpy sunshine troupe.

This was a cute yet common story. I liked the characters and all, but it lacked pizzazz. The vet part won me over enough to keep reading and the happy ending as well.

If you liked “The Holiday” then you’ll probably like this one. It had a very similar vibe to it. Girl “temporarily” moves, drunk guy stumbles into her home and it’s not long before they develop feelings for each other. The added career difficulties made this one a bit different though and added to the tale.
🌀Synopsis
Holly is career driven. She knows what she’s after and she won’t stop until she gets it. Unfortunately, that means she has to do a small amount of time in a small town “paying her dues.”
Greg Dunbar is just a local guy who uses his key to get in one night. It doesn’t take long for the two to become fast friends. Though Holly is admit that is all they will ever be. In the small community, it’s easy to find out more about him.
It turns out, one of the local farms is his family and one of the vet’s big patients. Not only does Holly get to know Greg, she gets to know his family too. Impressing them isn’t too difficult but keeping the main vet impressed proves to be much more difficult. Holly realizes it has to be one or the other and throws herself into her work. She works hard to get to know the head vet and to earn his approval. Though she’s determined to impress him she’s still determined to leave too and that means leaving Greg, something she admittedly does not want to do.

Cute, light and entertaining book! The characters felt immature at times and in the end was anticlimactic. The narrator for the audiobook was great.
Thank you, NetGalley and Dreamscape Media. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

First I want to thank Dreamscape Media for providing me a copy of the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
This is the story of Holly, veterinarian, who was sent to the small Scottish town of Eastercraig to help the local vet. Holly has to survive a year while impressing the local vet then she is back to England for her dream job in Eton. While in Eastercraig she meets a myriad of people and their pets and learning her plan might not be what's best for her.
What I loved:
- Narrator, Mhairi Morrison did an amazing job with all of the different characters and accents needed for this story not to mention she has a very soothing voice
- The Dunbar brothers, Greg and Angus big attractive Scottish men who just wants best for their family and community no wonder Holly and Chloe want more with them
- Co-workers, Holly has amazing co-workers at the Eastercraig clinic Paulo and Chloe they welcome her into town, show her around, encourage her to try new things and overall are a great support system
- Multiple POVs, I'm a huge fan of books with multiple POVs and this book has three Holly (the main) and then Paulo and Chloe who bring unique perspectives of living in Eastercraig and the events around town
- Nicknames, there are quite a few used throughout the book but obviously I was OBSESSED with Greg calling Holly Sassenach...like the good Outlander fan I am
This is a sweet small town romance with a side of amazing characters, pets and community that you just fall in love with. If you like romance and listening to audiobooks I would recommend giving this book a listen, its a great story mixed with an equally amazing narrator and just brings so much joy.
