The story was fun and cute, but the characters were a little too whiny for me. There are multiple love stories going on which is fun, but sometimes I got a little lost. I loved the narrator she did a fantastic job.

Holly Anderson has a five year plan. Falling in love and movie to the Scottish Highlands was definitely not part of that plan. But that's exactly where she finds herself. Unexpectedly Holly finds herself in Eastercraig for a year at a vet hospital in desperate need of some updating. The one good thing she has going is the luxury cottage she has for the year she is there. That is until a very drunk Greg Dunbar lets himself into the cottage in the middle of the night. The two hit it off, but neither are looking for love. Greg is only back in the village to help the family farm. Even though it's not part of her five year plan, Holly gains two new work besties, a beautiful village and so much more. Let's Just Be Friends is a sweet romance that will be greatly enjoyed.

Holly had a somewhat unstable childhood that included a lot of moving based on the whims of her mother and the multiple loves of her life. So she has a plan and she is sticking to it, or so she thinks. When everything in her plan is upended she finds herself in a teeny tiny town with a horrible boss hoping this is the fastest year of her life. No serious attachments, a year honing her skillset and she is out of there with no looking back. The best laid plans! So when she meets Greg, while he in the midst of breaking in/letting himself into the cottage that came along with her new job after almost clobbering him, they strike up a friendship. And all it will ever be is a friendship as neither wants anything more. And so begins the will they/wont they dance fighting it all the way. Sweet story.

"Let's Just Be Friends" by Katy Turner is a heartfelt contemporary romance novel that explores the complexities of relationships and the delicate balance between friendship and love. With its engaging narrative and relatable characters, the book offers an enjoyable reading experience.

Katy Turner's writing style is fluid and accessible, making it easy to immerse oneself in the story. The author expertly captures the emotions of the characters, allowing us readers to feel like we are part of their friend group. Holly and Greg are well-developed and layered, with their individual personalities shining through.

One of the highlights of the book is the realistic portrayal of the challenges faced by the characters. Turner delves into the complexities of transitioning from friends to lovers, addressing the fear of ruining a cherished friendship and the uncertainty that accompanies such a transformation. The author's ability to convey the character's inner conflicts and vulnerabilities adds depth and authenticity to the narrative.

However, while "Let's Just Be Friends" succeeds in capturing the emotional intricacies of its characters, the lack of romance throughout the book meant to be a romance tale left something to be desired. While the characters end up getting their HEA, I felt like it was an afterthought and not the point of the story. There was more focus on the friendships and not on the male lead of this romance book.

Nonetheless, the novel will appeal to readers who appreciate a heartfelt exploration of complex relationships. Katy Turner's "Let's Just Be Friends" is a charming and relatable tale that will resonate with those who have ever wondered about the fine line between friendship and something more.

In conclusion, "Let's Just Be Friends" by Katy Turner is a captivating journey that explores the intricacies of love, friendship, and the delicate dance between the two. The well-developed characters and heartfelt narrative make it a worthwhile read for fans of contemporary romance especially if you are looking for something with little to no spice.

Holly's plans changed and she ends up in a 12-month vet job where she will have to work with large animals which she was not expecting. There was not very much drama in the story and it was more based on friendship. There were multiple POV's and I did like the characters. Otherwise, it just fell flat for me and it took forever for me to get through. Having so many characters made it hard to follow any of their stories.

Let's Just Be Friends by Katy Turner
FIVE STARS

Awwww!!!! This was so cute and sweet and I loved it. Holly and Greg are adorable!! I hope there is more or some sort of epilogue. I'd love to know what happens to the farm and all the friends. Mhairi Morrison was the perfect narrator for this, she's so soft spoken and that just fit so well.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to and review this book.

When veterinarian Holly's career plans are scuppered, she's force to accept a 12-month job in Eastercraig, a seaside village in the Scottish Highlands.

Resigned to making the most it, she befriends her colleagues, assistant Chloe and vet nurse Paolo.

After a chaotic childhood, Holly is determined to focus on creating a stable life for herself, and eschew relationships until she'd hit her career goals. That's tested when a stranger, Greg, lets himself into her rental home thinking it's vacant and Holly can't stop thinking about him afterwards.

Meanwhile shy Chloe has a long-standing crush on Greg's brusque brother Angus and Paolo, whose heart was broken by Holly's landlord Fabien, is struggling to meet men with a small population.

Let's Just Be Friends is a gentle, low drama, story of friendship and learning to adapt when your plans change on you. I do think that the synopsis needs a bit of a re-write as it's not just Holly's story, chapters switch between Chloe and Paolo.

I really liked the characters. I felt like I'd happily go to the pub with Holly, Chloe and Paolo. I like that Holly was supported and welcomed by both of them. However the characterisation of Holly's boss Hugh didn't fit the way his character arc was resolved at the end. He wasn't grumpy and missing his wife, his behaviour was downright abusive. He undermined her every step of the way and raged at everyone. How can it be explained that he was angry he'd found a talented vet?

This book was just an easy read and I loved descriptions of village and seaside life. However I did find that by the end, there were still a few loose ends that weren't quite resolved satisfactorily for me.

While I wouldn't want to live there in winter, I would happily pack my bags for a few months to live in Eastercraig as written by Katy Turner.

Let’s Just Be Friends was a tough book for me to get through. The story was predictable and confusing, and the characters were not relatable but the saving grace of this book was the setting. The small town in the countryside of Scotland was described so well. This made me want to pick up and go visit the country. I wish the story had that same impact.

This sounded like it was going to be a story about one main character finding love but it was actually about six different characters. The way it all went together was more confusing than enjoyable. I love books from multiple points of view but this just did not do it right.

There were six main characters. Of the six there was not one that I really loved. That’s a problem. I understand not every character will be for everyone but if you have six main characters I feel like at least one should speak to me in some way.

This book was a great book about the Scottish countryside and the animals you can find there. For a love story unfortunately this is one that I can not recommend.

Loved the setting & cozy small town vibes. I just wish there weren’t so many romance storylines stuffed into one book. I also wasn’t crazy about the multiple POVs when there was no indication that there would be a POV for each main girl character. But I did love the setting of the Scottish highlands and thought it was a perfect small town setting. Plus adored the animals!

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this audio ARC. I really wanted to like this book especially based on the blurb about the book. There were too many characters that it took away from the main plot. Not for me.
