You guys…just wow! I never thought I would be a fan of a vampire book, but I was obsessed with Sign of the Slayer by Sharina Harris.

We meet the sassy, take no mess Raven in high school with her school band at a rival football game when all hell breaks loose. Monsters attack her and her classmates leaving everyone dead but her and this gorgeous man named Khamari. They both fight off these strange beings and he lets her know that those were vampires.

Turns out he’s a prince and Raven has the powers of a slayer. In this book, people are who they seem and trust us broken, lives are lost and love is found. I truly enjoyed a fantasy novel centered around two African American main characters with lingo I completely understood and laughed at a few times. I feel like I could be Raven’s bff!

You have to give this book a shot! It was well written and kept my attention throughout and I’m craving the next one! Thank you Sharina Harris for this one!

This was a fun take on vampire high school romance. It was nice to not have an ancient vamp fall in love with an 18 year old.

After being band bus is attacked by a vampire Raven’s slayer abilities puts a target on her back. She discovers there is a whole world she didn’t know existed of vampires and slayers and that someone is trying to upset the agreement that has stood for centuries. But who is it and what is there goal?!

Def a first book and I can’t wait for book 2 to come out!

This is for the Buffy lovers who always thought Kendra deserved better, and for Bonnie Bennett lovers who know she was the real MC of The Vampire Diaries. Raven is that girl you can root for who represents some dynamic main character energy.

Sign of The Slayer by Sharina Harris was a fun, fast paced read that had me all in my feelings. I laughed, I got teary-eyed, I screamed at the pages. I was completely invested in this story. Witty, gritty, full of heart with a dash of campiness and pop culture, it’s on my list of top all-time recs. This one is for the blerd girls!

So fun and nostalgic for those who grew up with Buffy the Vampire Slayer or the paranormal romance craze of the 2000s. Gave a fresh voice to the genre.

This YA fantasy book follows a girl named Raven, who gets pulled into the paranormal. One day she's an average high schooler, and the next she's a vampire slayer. This was a medium-paced book, with a lot of unexpected events. I enjoyed the storytelling and the characters. Throughout this book, you follow Raven as she learns about the ins and outs of being a vampire slayer.

If buffy came into the new age and was a kick ass black girl that knows how to hold a grudge! Romance was slow burn and full of tension and will be interested to see where it goes.

**Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy**

I started this novel a few months back, and I genuinely tried to finish it, but I just could not get into it. For me personally, it was a little too YA in the sense that it used a lot of slang terms and phrases, which turned me off from the novel. I think a younger audience would love this book though! There are unique themes for the genre, a strong female protagonist, and a few spicy scenes.

This is definitely a solid YA novel.

⚔️Guys! I am so happy to be sharing my stop on the tour for Sign of the Slayer. I have to admit this book took my emotions through it! I truly enjoyed reading about Raven and Khamari’s journey. In the beginning, I was a bit skeptical but a few chapters in and I was sucked in. It was such a great read, at times I was fuming and other times I was chuckling with the characters.
“𝓨𝓸𝓾'𝓻𝓮 𝓫𝓮𝓪𝓾𝓽𝓲𝓯𝓾𝓵, 𝓼𝓪𝓻𝓬𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓲𝓬, 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓬𝓪𝓷 𝓽𝓮𝓪𝓻 𝓽𝓱𝓻𝓸𝓾𝓰𝓱 𝓪 𝓿𝓪𝓶𝓹𝓲𝓻𝓮'𝓼 𝓱𝓮𝓪𝓻𝓽. 𝓦𝓱𝓪𝓽'𝓼 𝓷𝓸𝓽 𝓽𝓸 𝓵𝓸𝓿𝓮?” - Kamari (NOTHING ELSE CAN DESCRIBE RAVEN! MY GOSH!!! 😮‍💨)
⚔️Here are the things I enjoyed:
-The dialogue between the two MCs was very realistic especially with all the pop culture references, sarcasm and silly humor.
-The magic system and how detailed the author explained it so it was easy to understand.
-How inclusive and representative the book felt.
-Badass women being in charge.
-Enemies to lovers will do it EVERY TIME for me.
-How famous historical events and people were added in for realism.
-I loved the dual POV and the author’s writing.
⚔️What I did not enjoy:
-How hasty Raven was with her actions at times, too much doing without thinking.
-The chapters felt a bit too long considering this is part 1 in a series.
-The history lessons felt a bit drawn out in some points of the book.
-The fact ‘NOBODY TOLD MEEEEE…that this is going to be a series😭 I thought it was going to be nice and wrapped up in a bow at the end. I was so wrong lol.
-I thought there would’ve been a page detailing the difference in the clans and hierarchy of the slayers.
-I wanted more insight on Khamari’s sick brother.
Other than my minor critiques I would recommend this book if you enjoy paranormal romance, enemies to lovers, a lot of action, dual POV, and multiple plot twists.

High school is meant for studying, socializing, and band practice, not fighting vampires, but one night changed everything for Raven. Despite the challenges, attending a slayer academy has its perks, such as learning about vampires and crafting weapons. However, everything changes when Raven encounters the vampire prince and realize there may be more to him than meets the eye. The threat of an ancient evil forces a vampire and a slayer to join forces, putting not just her revenge, but the world itself at stake.

I really enjoy the concept of this novel - black girl vampire slayer? Hell yes! We need more books like this in the world, please. However, the plot, characters and world building left this novel feeling lackluster at times. I did overall enjoy the novel, hence my 3 star review, I'm just not sure I'd continue with the series. I would still recommend this to others though, just so they can check it out and see if this is their kind of book.

The world building was confusing at some points and I found myself having to go back and reread certain parts to understand fully what was going on. The main character, Raven, was a bit annoying at times but other times I found myself liking her so it was a bit inconsistent. The love story was also a bit insta-love for me, which isn't exactly my cup of tea. and I didn't really feel the connection between the two.

I'd still recommend this book for others to check out if they want to read about a black girl vampire slayer. They may love it more than I did!

When highschooler Raven loses her friends to a vampire attack, she finds out that she herself is a vampire slayer, and gets swept up into Slayer Society. Like lots of teenagers, Raven has a strong sense of justice, and is determined to seek vengeance for her lost friends. But she has a lot to learn.

I really enjoy the way that this YA novel truly felt like it was written for young people. Raven strikes me as a realistic high schooler, and through her actions and the way she speaks. I really enjoyed her personality, and the way she truly goes through a coming of age arc on the page. The magic system in this world, and the overall worldbuilding, also feels very strong! I love urban fantasy, and this really leaned into that genre, while still feeling unique. A really fun read overall!

I have a vast appetite for black vampire books, all the better when the MC gets to date a hot vampire prince who is also black. I loved seeing the MC go through her journey and grow confident in her ability to kick ass. This book delivered on many fronts and fell short on others. I grew frustrated with the pacing, and some of the trust that was put into the MC by her superiors felt unwarranted for the circumstances they were put in. Most of all, I wish that this book was pushed into the New Adult category. The book began with a super cinematic, Drumline-esque performance by her High School marching band (I've never read anything like it, I was so entranced) but after that, the issues she faced felt like they could have just as easily applied to a college student or recent graduate. And if we were going to include underage drinking and sex in the plot, I feel like we should just take it to the New Adult. Overall, it was a cool read, and I hope to see more from the author.

Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC of Sign of the Slayer by Sharina Harris

Very nostalgic read for me as gave me that Buffy feeling!

I enjoyed the voice of the MC, and the story as a whole was its own thing, even though we've seen vampires done so many times before.

Pretty good! I enjoyed it. Nice take on the vampire slayer scenario. I liked the heroine and the vampire prince. They did well together. Kinda gave me a buffy and angel vibe and I was here for it. Definitely want to read more by this author.

Quick Summary: A slayer adventure with attitude and spunk

My Review: Sign of the Slayer by Sharina Harris is an insanely thrilling paranormal novel. It features a fierce new slayer warrior by the name of Raven.

About the Book: A teenager with a history of “anger issues,” a love for high school band, and an atypical upbringing is blown away by her upgraded status in her new world experience. Vampires, monsters, and slayers, oh my! And did I forget to mention an unlikely tag team, fated mate situation?

My Final Say: Why is this not a Netflix series right now?! This book hit so hard, out of the gate. I loved the premise, the excitement, the plot twists, the characters, the word play…it was all good.

Other: I loved the shout outs and hidden praise, related to HBCUs. (You know!) I also jived with the band life vibe. (Much respect “til the day I die.” Don’t worry about it; my fellow band geeks get that reference. 🙌)

Sign of the Slayer was fun! It was an easy read, well written and catchy. It was also nostalgic for all of us who grew up watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Sign of the Slayer was definitely it's own story but it was fun to be brought back to the heyday of vampire culture.

As a Buffy fan, this one did not live up to the hap. I think it's because a lot times when something has vampires in this generation atomically compares it to buffy because of the vampires. With out actually knowing what Buffy was about. And it end up being nothing like Buffy.

Amazing debut. Reminds me of L. A. Banks' Vampire Huntress Legends. Sharina crafts a story that is engaging and well plotted. This is unique in the fact that the voice is one that is not often heard in this genre. I'm interested to see what happens in book two.
