I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Only in New York is a children's picture book all about New York City. This book is part of a series exploring the fifty states of America. This would make a great class topic book and a fantastic gift for anyone who loves exploring or who is travelling to New York. The book is engaging and informative at a level that will keep a child's interest. The book covers history, geography, culture, facts, and trivia. Now I want to hop on a plane and explore the city!!

Let explain everything about the New York State in 32 pages.

I LOVE READING IT, but it gets tired because of a lot of information in a single page. That was the only thing i did not like it.

3.5

Only in New York breaks down New York State into regions throughout the state. Each two page spread of the region shares different facts, important places, and important parts of history that occurred in this place. There are also pages of general state facts. The book is fun to read to learn more about where you may live or places around you.

Here I am, never been to US, only think that New York means New York City. I never imagine that New York is vast, with so many things to do and enjoy whole year long. Of course the city itself offers so many attractions, but also the area around. Even US' side of Niagara Falls can be found in New York! For someone who needs quick fun facts about the state, here is a wonderful book that offers the information in amusing way.

Wait! What? Whoa! Do you know what Einstein related item is stored in a safe-deposit box in NYC? Answer at end.

What a fun, fascinating read. As I often do, I found myself idly flipping through twice, enjoying the illustrations and any odd facts that seemed to leap to my eyes. That was fun but so was actually reading the book. I've never been to New York, alas, so this was a bit of a perfectly guided virtual tour for me. Beautifully illustrated with info provided in an easy to read format, usually in individual boxes near the related illustration. There's a map, too, at the beginning of our journey that gives you a perspective on locations. Index at the end, too.

I was fascinated. Let's face it, even those of us who've never been to the state know bits and pieces of its storied history and sites. Even so, I found myself taking endless notes as I flipped and then read through more carefully, notes for me to keep, not for this review. Oh, okay, I'll share a few things. Did you know New York is the only state to border both an ocean and Great Lake? Or, and this one will come as a surprise to those who assume if you've seen NYC you know the entire state, 61% of the state is covered by forests? How about the lion statues guarding the entrance to the NY Public Library? Do you know their names? Or how many states you can see from the 102nd floor viewing platform of the Empire State Building? What museum is on a ship?

Nope, not telling. You're going to have to read this one to find out the answer to that one and so many, many others. For a book targeting children as an audience, it's amazingly well-researched and full of information on everything from the state's history and culture, to its trees and flowers, people, both famous and otherwise, food, and, well, so much more. I definitely appreciated that the people showcased as notable were diverse and covered a wide range of contributions, from political to the accidental "invention" of soft serve ice cream. And, oh, a fact I appreciated living in Alaska, which is prone to earthquakes. New York's strongest quake was in 1944, a 5.9 one. That's nothing to shrug off, trust me.

Bottom line, loved this and will be looking for more on the rest of our diverse, vast nation. Thanks so much to #NetGalley and #QuartoPublishingGroup - #WideEyedEditions for giving me this fascinating virtual tour. And, oh, for those who scrolled down to the answer to my opening question: Einstein's eyeballs!!!

Fun, brightly illustrated pages packed with a wealth of information/facts about New York, the state. There's a lot of info (in small, interesting & easily taken in, snippets) on each page, so it might be overwhelming to try to remember in one sitting...it might be a great book to keep & review as a resource. As an adult reader, I learned quite a few new things that I hadn't known about the state....& learning new things is always a plus! I think this would be a great book (series) to have in any library, for young people & adults to enjoy! Well done!
I received an e-ARC from Quarto Publishing Group-Wide Eyed Editions via NetGalley, to read & offer my own fair/honest review.

I liked this one. Looking at the State of New York, it's key cities, natural landscape, customs, and fun facts, I found it to be both very accessible and interesting. The layout of the book works well, bright illustrations alongside numerous bite sized facts that give the young reader enough to engage them and take it further if they wanted to. I picked up several things I didn't know and really enjoyed reading this.

7-year-old me would have loved this book! It's full of interesting facts about the state of New York (some of which are obscure enough to also be new to adult readers). The artwork is engaging. Aspiring young travelers, and also those who've already been to some of the places mentioned, will love digging into the extra details provided in this book.

This is a lovely, illustrated guide to New York. It includes fun facts about the state, New York City and other major cities. It includes major attractions, key New York dishes, and well-known festivals and events like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

This kids’ book is part of an excellent series on all fifty states. This time, readers learn a lot about New York. So much is packed into this short book. There are many locations to visit, as for example, New York City, Long Island, the Catskills and more. There are also museums, foods, animals, festivals and even a section entitled Weird, Weirder and Weirdest.

This book will make many want to come for a visit. Adults and kids can use this title to plan their visit to the Empire State. It is well illustrated and packed with facts and ideas.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group. All opinions are my own.

We loved this book about New York State. I had no idea how big the state is, it is far more than just New York City. Alexander gives lots of fun facts about all aspects of New York from food, sport, culture to history and nature. The illustrations are fantastic and really bring the text to life. I have always wanted to visit New York (the city), but now I want to tour the whole state!

We will definitely be reading the other books in the series and hope they cover other countries in the future

Such a great overview of all the things to see and do in New York -- the entire state, not just the city! Also included are famous people and inventions that are associated with NY. The quirky illustrations are fantastic and the text is presented as captions to the pictures -- great for kids with short attention spans and those who are visual learners.

What a well-illustrated reminder of home.

I thoroughly enjoyed turning through these pages and seeing the little tidbits about my home state. It was fun to see what was closed to be featured about my state and to see how many of the places I have been and the facts I already knew. I learned quite a few new ones too!

I can just picture my young, children’s encyclopedia loving self having wanted this book as a child.

I really enjoyed this and hope it becomes an entire series for me to learn little bits from.

Thanks NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the ARC of this book.

This is a delightfully illustrated children’s book, filled with fascinating facts about the state of New York. There are so many colorful, beautiful illustrations that will keep a child’s eyes busy, and so much interesting information to read. I realized how little I had known about New York after reading this book. Didn’t know the rose was the state flower, or that the lady bug is the state insect! Little factoids like that are fun, but there is so much more to discover. Many people probably forget that New York is more than NYC and this book describes other major cities and areas, as well as the fantastic nature in the state. Sports, food, weird facts, museums, famous people, and much more. I also particularly appreciated the focus on diversity and equality: people of color and women are not forgotten. Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing!

This book was shockingly informative for being a kids book. As an adult who lives in New York I actually learned some cool things about the state. I think this book was illustrated beautifully and shares a lot of really interesting information in a way that is easy for kids to understand. I also appreciate that it doesn’t just focus on NYC since the state is so much bigger than one city.

Review to come early September (close to the release day) on my blog: I received this book from Netgalley/publisher in exchange of an honest review.

After the fab books of Only in America (3.5 stars), Only in California (4.5 stars), and Only in Texas (4.5 stars), I just HAD to get this book when I saw it on Netgalley! I love that more books are written, hopefully I am able to read all the books as there are still plenty of states left!

After all, I am not able to visit the US ever, or well, I should say I would love to visit but given how the country is towards LGBT, how much violence/gun stuff, and other things there are? I will just stick to books if I want to travel the US. Haha. So these books are a treasure!

In this book we travel along the state of New York. Going from Niagara Falls to Thousand Islands to NY City and ending at Long Island! I was very eager to get this journey started, I hadn't realised that Niagara Falls is in the state of New York, plus I was very curious about The Finger Lakes (the what now?). Can you imagine, the first few pages and I am already learning new things! Love it! Let's get this journey started~ I loved that for the city of New York we first got an overview and then some postcards featuring some parts of it, like Staten Island. Fun! And from that moment we travel all across the state seeing some gorgeous scenes and some wonderful moments and I wish I could just step in the book and be part of it. I loved how each new part is a two-page spread filled with all sorts of fun mini-facts about it.

I loved that, just like the others, next to facts about certain places/parts we also get special pages featuring things like sports, museums, or food! I always keep looking forward to those as they have some really fun facts! Many I don't know!

Facts I learned: The Capital of NY is not NY but Albany. That when a Mets player hits a home run a sculpture of an apple pops up. And I would love to see The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze, 7000 pumpkins! Glowing! Need! And hello a book village in Hobart? Sign me up! Plus, all that food. I just ate lunch 2 hours ago but there goes my stomach, rumbling for a slice, or maybe some chicken french? Or maybe tomato pie? Or no no, hotdogs? Haha, so many choices! YUM!

And of course, like the previous books this book is beautifully illustrated with illustrations everywhere. From big two-page spreads to smaller illustrations on other pages. Fun!

All in all, I loved this book and I had oh so much fun reading it! I cannot wait to see what is next in the series. Recommended to all!
