I really enjoyed this book! I love a twist I didn't see coming. I like the format of using a podcast or podcast research to tell the story. I will definitely look to read any other books by this author!

A young woman dies on her way home from a party. But who killed Stephanie? Five years after losing their friend, Chris and Laura try to find answers to questions that derailed their lives. And answers they find...

This thriller had me glued to my headphones. At any time of day, whether it was while driving, walking, or doing chores (my home has never been cleaner!) - or sometimes even just sitting around, staring vacantly into space. I loved it and couldn't stop listening. As I'm an avid thriller reader, I was sure to have guessed the big twist about halfway into the book, and it didn't bother me; it was addictive even then. But, oh boy, was I wrong! Danielle Stewart got me, and she got me good.

Definite recommendation for fans not only of thrillers but also of true crime podcasts.

The Girl At The Party was an entertaining read- suspenseful with just enough intrigue to keep you reading. Some portions of the story are a little "expected".

The Girl at the Party by Danielle Stewart
Narrated by Stephanie Cannon was a brilliant and totally addictive psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping twist at the end. This audiobook had me gripped from the beginning till the very end and I loved it.

The Narrator by Stephanie Cannon was excellent and made all the characters come alive.

I highly recommend the audiobook or the book and a great holiday read.

Big Thank you Bookouture Audio and Netgalley for this ALC.

Leaving a house party a girl ends up dead, but it's years later and the people who were her friends are trying to find her killer.
Chris has opened a podcast and he plans to put the investigation online and close this case.

Contacting Laura, a friend who was also there on the night, the two work together to interview previous friends on what could have happened, but who is really telling the truth?

This novel had a few red herrings that kept me guessing and although I had guessed the ending the red herrings had made me change my mind twice.

Stewart gives us a cleaver narrative that I liked was a modern style of being investigated as a cold case for a podcast.

I like the main characters and like how Stewart kept us on our toes throughout the novel.

Loved the dynamics of this book! The characters were all intertwined and the suspense kept me through the whole book.

A party, a group of friends, and an unsolved murder come together creating a character-driven whodunnit. I enjoyed following the clues as the murderer’s identity came to light. Who had a motive to want to kill the poor, unassuming Stephanie? Little did she know that her killer and friend were one of the same. The narration and podcast element added to my overall enjoyment of this slow-burn thriller. Thank you Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for my audiobook.

I enjoyed this but I did find it a bit slow and dragged out. Not my favourite of the year. Nice narration though.

Thank you NetGalley for the audio copy in exchange for a honest review. Chris and Laura are doing a podcast to investigate the unsolved murder of their old friend Stephanie 5 years ago. As they start to interview old friends they find their lives in danger. A great read.

I tried to listen to this book several times, but I kept losing interest rather quickly. I did not relate to the characters, and this felt juvenile, something tweens and young teens might enjoy. I feel bad that I didn't listen to the whole story because the description sounded interesting, but I found it uninteresting and not at all engaging.

✨Book Review - The Girl at the Party✨

⭐️⭐️⭐️🌑🌑

*I was provided this book free of charge by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

So for a lot of reasons, some personal, some literary, this book took me forever to finish. The main reason was that the first 2/3 of the book was pretty slow moving. There was a lot of investigating but not a lot of finding happening, and I just got kind of bored. The other main deterrent was I needed to take a reading hiatus in order to study for my first Architectural Registration Exam (I passed! Yay!).

That being said, once I sat down at the airport, waiting for my delayed flight to board, I suddenly had two+ hours to kill so I plugged in and finished the book. I am so glad I did because this last 1/3 of the book was fast paced, full or discoveries, and exciting!

I did not see the ending coming and was thrilled by the surprise. Knowing now how it ended, I wish I could have read a little faster to get to this point and actually finish the book because it was worth the read. I will definitely read further books by Danielle Stewart!

This is an interesting thriller, which I enjoyed. The narrator was fantastic (Stephanie Cannon always is).

The story is about some friends who used to go to college together. Chris has set up a new podcast series exploring what happened to his friend Stephanie at a party they were all at. Chris connects with Laura, and together they try to solve the case. Of course, there is a lot of drama and suspense. Will they find out the truth?

This is a good book, which I highly recommend.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Girl At The Party' by Danielle Stewart.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Danielle Stewart, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 12th July 2023.

This is the first book I have read by this author.

This novel consists of a prologue and 42 chapters. The chapters are medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

'The Girl At The Party' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Danielle discusses r@p3, Ch1ld @bu$3 and Self H@rm1ng.

This book is a slow burner but it is also ram packed with tension, drama, twists, lies, mystery, friendship, secrets, red herrings and much more! The storyline is about two friends Chris and Laura who present a podcast to try and solve the cold mystery of their friend Stephanie's death. It is told through multiple narratives as well as multiple timelines which gives the reader a larger picture of what is going on. I especially enjoyed listening to the actual podcasts themselves and thought they were an excellent concept and addition to the storyline. This is the second book I have read that focuses on podcasts to try to solve a cold crime so, although it is not a unique storyline for me it is still an enjoyable and interesting one. The suspect list is quite small so you are continuously guessing which of the small group is a killer. There were several twists throughout the book. Although the book was slow to begin with it did pick up speed quite quickly and I enjoyed the unexpected twists and even the ones that were not a huge surprise. The ending was definitely unexpected and did leave me mind blown and considering how many crime books I have read that is definitely a huge bonus as it is getting harder and harder to surprise me. I am looking forward to seeing what Danielle comes up with next!

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture

This is one of the few books that I have listened 100% on Audiobook. If I listen to a book on audiobook I usually also read the physical book between but for the second time I listened to the whole book and I was impressed! I must say a HUGE congratulations to the narrator Stephanie Cannon who did a great job bringing this story to life. I would listen to it in the car and while walking at any opportunity and Stephanie did a fantastic job on both male and female characters voices!!! I'm not only looking forward to reading more books by Danielle but also to listening to more books narrated by Stephanie! I have previously listened to several books that Stephanie has narrated and she really does do an absolutely amazing job ensuring the story comes to life for the reader. The books I have listened/read that Stephanie has narrated and I would highly recommend are The Homemaker by Shari J Ryan, The Marriage Counselor by Dea Poirier, The Ex Wives by Jenna Kernan, My Big Fake Wedding by Jessica Hatch and The Child Of Ukraine by Tatyana Denford.

The characters were all realistic although I would have liked to see them more "filled out" as, personally some of them just fell that little bit flat for me. This normally puts me off a book but the twists and turns and Stephanie's fantastic narrative skills made it easy to look past this fact. I wasn't a huge fan of many of them and I was annoyed by the way Jake was treated and portrayed in regards to his disabilities. It is this part of the book that lost star ratings and the reason I gave a 3.5 rounded up to a 4 rather than a 5. The characters are all hiding their own secrets and this is a book filled with lies, twists and one where you have no idea which characters are telling the truth or who are hiding secrets so I won't go any deeper into my feelings of the characters as I don't want to spoil it for future readers.

Overall a suspense packed drama filled with twists you won't see coming!

290 page/8 hours 29 minutes

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle, free with kindle unlimited, £8.99 in paperback, £39.37 for the Audiobook or £7.99 with Audible via Amazon at time of review, which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

I loved this book from the prologue. The concept of two friends using a podcast to solve their friend’s murder years ago is so fun. Told from the perspectives of Laura & Chris,as well as a criminal, this book is so intense!

Thank you, Danielle Stewart, Bookouture, & Netgalley for my early audiobook copy! All opinions are my own.

The Girl at the Party
by Danielle Stewart
Narrated by Stephanie Cannon

The Girl at the Party follows Laura and Chris, two old friends that recently reconnected when Chris decided to start a new podcast series about Stephaine, a mutual friend of theirs that was murdered years ago at a party they were at, along with a bunch of other friends of theirs. As they delve into research for the podcast, things start to get interesting. Discoveries are made that could help solve the case, and threats are being made towards them to stop looking into it. Do they stop? Of course not. I enjoyed this book; though parts were a little predictable, some twists still caught me off guard. The narrator did a good job, and she was easy to listen to.

Overall, this is a good, sold book that I would happily recommend. It kept me listening to the very end.

Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture Audio and the author for the chance to listen and review this title!

The Girl at the Party follows Chris and Laura years after their close friend Stephanie's murder. The two agree to do a podcast to try to figure out what happened by talking to those closest to Stephanie. I really liked getting everyone's recollection of the days leading up to the murder and seeing how they all evolved over the years. Overall I did enjoy the book and would recommend it.

I had such a great time listening to this audiobook! 🎧 the storyline deals with a murder that happened while Laura was at college. She and her friends have drifted apart, but now Chris wants to help solve the mystery of the murder through a podcast series. A few years ago I became a huge fan of true crime podcasts, so this was so exciting for me. The narration was spot on in my opinion, keeping me intrigued and trying to guess who the murderer was. To no surprise, I did not see the whole twist coming! 🫠 the threats Laura and Chris received had me wishing they would just stop their investigation, but of course, they pushed through and I loved listening to the developments. I totally recommend as an audio book! 4.5 ⭐️ from me!!

This book kept me guessing until the end. Forcing college friends to face the ghosts of their pasts. Such a good thriller to listen to.

What I liked about this book was that the mystery was not easily solvable. In fact, most of the book I was suspicious of one person who didn't even make it onto the final "they could have done it list."

I don't want to penalize a book for having wholly unlikable characters, because some people are just unlikable. However, I would have liked it better if the protagonist was someone you loved and rooted for. I think the author was going for that, but it didn't feel real.

Would you start a podcast to cover one of your friends murder's from 5 years ago? Knowing that one of your friends could have been the killer?

The Girl at the Party tells the story in two different timelines, around the time of the murder and present day. The POV's switch between characters to showcase motivations and thoughts of specific people which is neat.

I was surprised when the killer was revealed and I liked the twists and turns the book took to get us there.

Thank you Danielle Stewart, Net Gallery, and Bookouture Audio for letting me listen to an advanced audiobook copy!
