Thank you to NetGalley for this ALC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This follows the true story of Sharon Nelson, someone who went through multiple marriage and husbands before the police became suspicious of her.

As a true crime girlie I was looking forward to listening to this because it's not a story I'm all that familiar with. However, I was left really disappointed. This came across more like a fictional story rather than a true encounter and I just couldn't get with the style at all. Which is a shame because this is an intriguing story. I just wished it wasn't written as a thriller novel instead of the true crime story it is supposed to be.

I had both the book and audiobook versions of this book. This made for an immersive reading experience. While reading and listening, I thought this would make a good true crime docuseries (if it hasn't been made into one already).

Fascinating true crime about a woman responsible for the death of two of her husbands.

Unfortunately this audio title disappeared from my library when I had to do an update on my NetGalley app, or it has been archived and I no longer have access to it.

I have the ebook on my kindle and look forward to reading it some time in the future.

Through meticulous research and compelling storytelling, Olsen provides a gripping account of the events leading up to the woman's transformation and the aftermath of her actions. Overall interesting but found it to be a bit slow paced and the narration was a miss for me. I love this authors fiction books, so this definitely is not the norm.

This is a true story of the black widow Sharon Nelson, who abused and murdered her husbands. I found this book to be disturbing. I can't say I enjoyed it, but I found it interesting to try and work out why she behaved in that way. The book is well written, and it has a lot of fascinating information and details which the author has taken a lot of time to process. So it is a very good book in that respect. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator did a great job.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

The author's focus on the dynamics and complexities of Sharon's relationships and the impact they have on the small town of Rocky Ford is intriguing. The contrasting personalities of the gruff Reverend Mike Fuller and the charismatic Sharon, along with the affair with local optometrist Perry Nelson, creates a web of deceit and betrayal.

The shocking twist of Perry's accidental death, enabling Sharon to claim his life insurance, adds a layer of suspense and suspicion. The subsequent marriage to fireman Glenn Harrelson, followed by the discovery of his body with bullet holes, raises the stakes and intensifies the mystery surrounding Sharon's involvement.

It appears to be a story that will keep readers hooked from the first page to the last, as they unravel the secrets and dark motives behind Sharon Nelson's actions.

If you enjoy true crime stories that delve into the psychology of individuals involved in heinous acts and the impact on the community, "The Black Widow" seems like a book you won't want to miss. Prepare yourself for a shocking and gripping account of greed, deceit, and murder in a small Colorado town.

After reading If You Tell last year, I was excited to snatch this one up. Greg Olsen delivered again. He has a real knack for true crime storytelling that reads like fiction. This one is full of a well fleshed out back story, captivating details, page turning exchanges, effectively used chronology jumps, and more. I’m a true crime podcast sucker and sometimes struggle to stick to the longer narrative style of a book, but this one really held my attention.

This is a true crime book that I was given as an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) by NetGalley. It came out July 13th. I had loved a previous book by the author, so thought this one would be good too. I think the thing about it for me was that the beginning started out so disjointed, I couldn’t figure out what was happening and when for the first 20% of the book. Maybe it was the large cast of characters. But, this woman Sharon, nicknamed the black widow went from man to man ruining lives as she went. Once I figured out what was going on, I did like the book. This woman was absurd and what’s more absurd were the men who kept coming back to her.

Shocking true story of a greedy woman who just had to have it all, and when she couldn't have it all, she made sure to kill them off
She was a cheater and conniving bish
She killed husbands who were good to her with no remorse.

3.5 rounded up
The book was a slow burn in the beginning that picked up eventually

The story was fact based and seemed to use transcripts from the court case. The story was a bit skittish, and the morally bankrupt main characters did not really elicit much sympathy from me as a listener, so it was difficult to engage too much with the audiobook. The narrator did a good enough job, but I found it a difficult book to get into and found that I didn’t care too much for the people in it.

If you like true stories of criminal activities, then this is a good book to engage with, but it didn’t quite hook me enough into it for my tastes.

American Black Widow by Gregg Olsen and Narrated by Karen Peakes
is the shocking chilling true story of a preacher's wife called Sharon Nelson who was the minister’s wife whose both husbands mysteriously ended up dead. This was an audiobook that I was hooked from the beginning and ended up listening to it all day. It was so good........

Back in Colorado in 1976. Reverend Mike Fuller and his beautiful wife Sharon arrive in the sleepy town of Rocky Ford. The God-fearing minister was gruff and very cold, but, his charismatic wife Sharon had her husband wrapped around her finger and the locals started to notice something was not right with this couple!

It isn’t long before Sharon is charming her husband’s congregation, and finds herself in a tryst with local, married optometrist Perry Nelson This affair ends both their marriages, Sharon and Perry tie the knot. But shortly afterwards, Perry disappears. His body is shockingly discovered the bottom of a canyon, his death is ruled out as an accident, allowing grieving widow Sharon to claim his substantial life insurance.

Trying to move on from the tragedy, Sharon soon remarries fireman Glenn Harrelson . But when the charred remains of Glenn’s body are discovered with two bullet holes in his skull, the police can’t help but question if both men dying in such mysterious circumstances is one coincidence too many............Oohhhhhhhhhh This is so good!

This audio book/book was shocking, sensational and very gripping. Plus a true story of the black widow Sharon Nelson.

How did one woman called Sharon Nelson think she could get away with these murders!!! it's a must-read tale of greed, sex and murder in a sleepy Colorado town that will have true crime fans of The Staircase, American Mother and Making a Murderer hooked from start to finish.

I highly recommend this book.

This was my first venture into a nonfiction true crime book. I didn’t love the genre, but this book was interesting and well written. I would definitely read more by this author. I received a free copy of this book from netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for providing me with the opportunity to listen to and review this ARC.
American Black Widow by Gregg Olsen was an intriguing, unputdownable read. This is a chilling true story of Sharon Lynn Douglas Neilson. She was a minister's wife, a doctor's wife, a fireman's wife, and murders two of her husbands!!!
This book is a nail-biting true crime book which once you pick up, you cannot put it down because you need to know what happens next.

I can't say I enjoyed this book about a truly evil, greedy woman who didn't care how many lives she destroyed, but the story is well-written and the narrator did an excellent job.

Thanks to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for the advanced digital audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion.

What a riveting, insane, true Black Widow story.. This story features Sharon Nelson (Shar) and let me tell you, this lady is truly coocoo for cocoa puffs crazy!! It blew my mind to listen to this story and realize how well Sharon could manipulate so many of those around her in order to get whatever the heck she wanted. If you like true crime, this is a must read or listen. The narrator did a fantastic job keeping me immersed in this wild story. This is available now and I cannot recommend it enough!

A great story and fantastic audiobook that accompanied on a few commutes and dog walks. A nonfiction story that read like a movie script as one woman has quite a history of men! Sharon Nelson started out as a preacher's wife and played the part well for a little while until greed and jealousy and other desires started bubbling up and she went from man to man with a few of those man dying in her wake. There were multiple times while listening to this book that I had to remind myself that this is a true story and this woman really does exist.

The narrator was fantastic, she did a few voices to indicate that someone else was talking and giving some personality to a few of the "characters." I always enjoy reading non fiction books via audio and I would listen to more with this narrator.
