Gorgeous writing, magnificent storytelling and beautiful historical details! Adele Jordan gives us a beautiful new swashbuckling episode in her highly entertaining series! It was the first time in my life that I really enjoyed to see Mary Queen of Scots being totally crushed and destroyed🤣🤣

A fabulous novel within a fabulous series that deserved to be enjoyed without any moderation whatsoever!

Many thanks to Sapere Books and Netgalley for this terrific ARC

You dont need to be a history buff or a fan of historical novels to be totally engrossed in Adele Jordan’s Kit Scarlett novels.
I love reading about the Elizabethan court and its intrigues, but this book could stand alone simply for its rich characters and suspenseful plotting. I loved every minute I spent with this book. As someone who paid little attention to history as a student, my “ learning” has come strictly from period novels. I enjoy learning about the partisan politics of the time and the bitter tension between Queen Elizabeth 1 and Mary Stuart.

I found this a very satisfying novel.

The Traitor Queen is the 5th book in the Kit Scarlett Tutor Mystery series and I could not find anywhere if this is officially the last book or not. Based off the ending and finally finding out things about Kit that have been mysteries since book one I would lean towards this maybe being the end. While I have enjoyed the series this was a bit predictable and I really wanted a bit more for Kit and Iomhar but I''m a romantic. Kit was her feisty, kick butt spy through the book and I quickly got through it because it was a fast paced read. If this is the last book well done Jordan on a great series and if not I will be back to read more.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review.

Set in 1586, the long journey that began 4 books ago appears to have reached its final and inevitable conclusion. I still hope for another book , as I want a happy ending for Kit and Iomhar, there are still avenues to explore in this very pleasing series of Tudor mysteries.
Kit Scarlett and Iomhar Blackwood are intelligencers working for Sir Francis Walsingham, who is the Spymaster for Queen Elizabeth.
Her cousin and rival is in prison at Chartley Castle, but she is still intriguing with her Catholic supporters to remove Elizabeth from the throne, which she believes is her birthright.
Messages are being sent in secret to her loyal friends, one of whom, is responsible for the death of Iomhar’s father, he would really like to seek revenge upon this person.
Kit and Iomhar are more than friends now, but Iomhar and his family wish to return to Scotland to reclaim their family home and lands, as soon as Mary Stuart and her supporters pose no further harm to them. Kit still wants to learn more about her unknown parentage, some extremely surprising relegations await her.
Although this series has not been strictly historically accurate, facts have been well blended with exciting fiction, to tell a great story. I shall be sorry if this is this is the last book.
I was given my first book about Mary, Queen of Scots, when I was 11 years old and I have been a great admirer of her since then. It has been interesting to read these books that give an alternative perspective upon her life. I lived near Fotheringhay for a few years, and the village public house near my home was , according to legend, where the executioner stayed the night before the deed was done.
My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers Sapere books for my digital copy, freely given in exchange for my honest review.
I will leave reviews to Goodreads and Amazon UK. A five star read.

I've enjoyed this series, and the final chapter (it seems from the author's afterward) ends it on a high note. This is not a series for readers looking for historical accuracy, but it's an enjoyable what-if for fans of Tudor England and Elizabeth I.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing a pre-pub copy.

Adele Jordan does it again with the Kit Scarlett mystery series, it does a wonderful job in being a historical mystery. The characters had a great feel to them and it worked in the historical elements. I was hooked from the first page and enjoyed how well the mystery was. It left me wanting to read more in this world.

I read this ''last step in the journey'' of Kit, to quote the author, and I have really enjoyed the whole series. I thought that this novel was a little slow at first but then it became absorbing, and finally, the most page turning book in the whole series. Kit and Iomhar are the main characters but there is also a host of characters based on historical record such as the famous spy master Walsingham and Queen Elizabeth. A great series that I highly recommend.

I've loved this series from the beginning even though it's not my favourite era these books have been spell binding to read with me enjoying them all equally. This one is another great addition but I was so sad as it seems to be ending here. I was hoping it would carry on for longer with the Kit and Imohar romance carrying on to progress at a slower pace instead of this one being the end. Ho hum what will be next from this author can't wait to see. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Yesss, another one in the series! I’ve been following Kit and her espionage escapades for a while now and I always look forward to rejoining her in her story. And back with Walsingham, Iomhar and the quest to stop Mary from overthrowing the throne. They resume another race against time to save the queen!

I never get bored of these and eagerly await each new story. This one was amazing (as ever) and I’m always so sad I fly through them so quickly. Because honestly, they are SO easy to race through. Blink, half the book is done. Blink again and I’ve finished and googling whether there’s going to be another.

I love books set in the Tudor period and this one hits all the buttons. Seeing Kits story progress over the series has been a joy and it was great to have some more of her past revealed. And the ending?! My heart. It was everything and more and I absolutely loved it. Not me reaching for the tissues for a happy weep. Nope, not at all :’).

So sad to have finished it but so happy to have followed Kit and got to know her story. Top tier, 5/5 series.
