It started about a year ago. The curse that haunts the Farrow women has found its way to June. She has been seeing and hearing things that aren’t there, including a mysterious red door. After the death of her grandmother, she begins to uncover clues about the truth of the family curse. When she is told to go through the red door the next time it appears, she discovers the family secret is even wilder than she imagined.

A beautiful blend of real life and fantasy, The Unmaking of June Farrow is spellbinding. Brimming with mystery and romance, I was transported into June’s world and captivated by her journey. While the story is a bit fantastical, the characters feel real and relatable, pulling you into their tale of magic.

Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for the advance copy of this book.

June is a Farrow, and the Farrow women have this power or curse to be able to live in two time lines at once. June wants to break the curse and live her life before she goes crazy from it, as what supposedly happened to her mother.

I thought the idea for this book was intriguing and the story was interesting. June tries to reconcile two lives, one she doesn’t remember, and the whole idea of this story I find confusing.

For anyone who likes books about alternate timelines and time travel this book is right up your alley.

This might be my favorite Adrienne Young book so far! The Unmaking of June Farrow was a emotional, mysterious, and captivating. This book had a slow start but it was so easy to use get sucked into the setting. I love how the author's writing style can just teleport me right into the pages. Once the pacing picked up and the plot thickened I seriously couldn't put this down. This book was full of unexpected twists and I loved every page of it. I don't want to talk about the plot and accidentally spoil anything but I promise this is definitely worth the read.

Thank you to Random House Publishing and Netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this one! The atmospheric writing was everything but the concept of this book was just so so good. I love a good time travel, sci fi book and this did not disappoint. There was a twist near the end that I did not see coming at all and it absolutely blew me away. I am always a sucker for a time travel story and this one, I highly recommend!!!

I loved the story.
June has just lost her grandmother and her death brings a lot of questions that June is determined to find answers to.
What we will discover as we read will keep us trapped in the story.
June, convinced that she has inherited the curse that all the Farrow women in the family suffer from, is resigned when her symptoms begin, or so she thinks. But her grandmother before she died has left her an envelope that will change everything June believed and it seems that there are secrets in her family that they have kept closely guarded.

Adrienne has created a novel full of mysticism,Sci-fi fantasy, she has also added a murder mystery and a touch of romance, but above all the resilience and sacrifice of women willing to do anything to defend their loved ones.
Undoubtedly this story becomes one of my favorites of the author.
I hope you give it a chance, you won’t regret it!

The Unmaking of June Farrow is a masterpiece. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this book since I finished it. What an amazing story of family, love, and sacrifice. This is unlike any time travel novel I have ever read. Full of twists, this book will keep you on your toes until the very end. So beautiful, and my favorite Adrienne Young book to date.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I’ve already ordered my physical copy so that I can read this again!

This is my first book by this author and I was completely blown away.

To write a story that involves multiple timelines and time travel but still keeps the reader firmly planted in the story is not an easy task. Adrienne Young does just that tough and brings a complex tale of family, love, and magic to life with each word written.

June Farrow is a character that will always have a piece of my heart.

[4.5 rounded to 5] The Unmaking of June Farrow is a mystery filled magical realism novel. There is reality with a touch of fantasy, which follows a similar vibe to Adrienne Young’s other novel, Spells for Forgetting. This tale follows June Farrow in the small town of Jasper, North Carolina. June is the last of the Farrow women. Their family is thought to suffer a mysterious curse and the mystery becomes more complex as June may be suffering more from it after the death of her grandmother. A mysterious red door appears, and June’s life becomes even more complicated. The story follows June as she attempts to solve the mystery of the madness.

This novel was captivating from start to finish. I am usually a fast reader, but I purposely slowed myself down while reading to try and look for all the clues throughout the writing. I loved trying to piece together all the elements and there were great plot twists along the way. Since there is a mystery in the story, it is difficult to review too much about it due to spoilers. The pacing was well-done, and it was a great novel written by Young. I love this style of story and Young’s variety. While it could be grouped together with Spells, it is very different than the Fable series. The romance in this story was good, although I do wish it was explored a little more. The cryptic vibe of the story is perfect for this time of year. Overall, this was another fantastic novel by Young and I can’t wait to read more from her.

**I give a special thank you to Netgalley and the publisher, Delacorte Press, for the opportunity to read this enjoyable novel. The opinions expressed are completely my own.**

This is a case where I WANT a half rating, SO badly. This is a strong 3.5/4 for me. Adrienne Young writes magical stories. All of the women in her stories (at least the ones I've read) all have magical abilities, steeped in folklore and mystery. June Farrow is no different.

All of the Farrow women have a curse. While they have a thriving flower farm, all of the women are cursed by madness. After her beloved grandmother's death, June has started hearing wind chimes and seeing a red door in unlikely places. She's also started seeing cryptic clues leading her down a path to her mother's disappearance decades earlier.

One of the most exciting things that Young is able to do is time hop. She's able to do this and capture both eras seamlessly. It's something many authors try and many fail. Additionally, Young creates perfect atmospheres for her books. The smell of tobacco, the smell of lavender, seeps through the pages of this story.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I absolutely adored this book. The story was intriguing, heartwarming and magical.

The writing is so atmospheric and cozy. The character development was great & I loved the Farrow women. The magical realism of this story is unlike any book I’ve read before.

I was so captivated by the story and could not put it down. I ended up finishing it in a day because I needed to get more answers!

This one is definitely in my top 5 of this year.

Pub date is today!

Thank you to the publisher and author for the ARC 🧡🧡

This book was beautifully written and you could almost feel yourself in the North Carolina setting while reading. The slightly spooky vibes and magical realism were perfect for October reading! Overall I really enjoyed the concept and story, however I did feel like it wrapped up a bit quickly and I had to work quite hard at times to keep the timelines/dates/versions of June straight in my mind - which at times pulled me out of the story and made it where the book took a bit longer to get through. Overall recommend!

A curse has plagued the Farrow women for generations. After June Farrow’s grandmother falls victim to the curse, and June herself realizes it’s coming for her, she begins to discover clues about her mother’s decades-old disappearance. In search of answers, June opens a red door that she once though was a hallucination. But could it be real — and where does it lead?

I did not end up finishing Spells for Forgetting by this same author, so I was hesitant to jump into this book. But I’m glad I did because I was pleasantly surprised!

The main improvement in June Farrow is the pacing. It was unputdownable from the start. I immediately needed to know why the Farrow women were cursed and how June was going to solve her mother’s disappearance. We don’t have to wait until the end for twists, either. Young peppers jaw-dropping reveals throughout the story.

Young is also a beautiful writer. Her prose is evocative, painting a portrait of a small farming town in North Carolina that leaps off the pages. June is a well-drawn character, too, who you can’t help but love.

My main issue with this story was that it was far too confusing. While I appreciated the creative plot and the way it dealt with the illusion of time, the latter became too mind-bending at times. I found myself putting the book down on multiple occasions to figure out what I’d just read. Some of the rules of time in this book also seemed to be arbitrary and ever-changing as well.

However, I still thoroughly enjoyed the ride and would recommend this book to anyone who’s looking for a genre-bending story — specifically fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction, mystery and a dash of romance.

As one of the few people who didn’t care for last years Spells for Forgetting, I wanted to give this author another chance. This book was compulsively readable but for me it was just missing something. I should also say I read The Invisible Hour by Alice Hoffman at the same time and both stories have very similar plots which had me comparing them to each other rather than on their own merit.
This book wasn’t for me but I feel will be loved by lots.
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the ARC.

I’m a big Adrienne Young fan and will read anything she writes. This book is absolutely her best work.

In this one, June Farrow is determined to be the last Farrow woman to suffer from a generations old curse. No one creates atmosphere quite like Adrienne Young… here it’s a flower farm in rural North Carolina that immediately captures your attention. A young woman raised by her grandmother, there’s family history and drama, romance, beautifully woven time travel, strong and conflicted women, a touch of mystery.

That’s all you need to know. I highly recommend you go into this one blind and just let yourself be completely drawn into June’s world.

I have no notes. This book is perfection, and easily one of the best books you’ll read this year.

This is a wonderfully complex story, with great twists and a mystery that kept me turning page after page, and made me ignore real life for awhile.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 / 4.5 stars

A beautiful story about transcendent love and the lengths one will go to, to protect that love.

I enjoyed the time travel and mystery elements, as well as the thrilling suspense that the author brings to the book. It's reminiscent of Outlander, but it's the family bloodline that allows for time travel rather than a place.

I would have liked some more background on the Farrow bloodline, and the time travel was a little confusing to follow at times; so I deducted a half star from my overall rating.

Special thanks to NetGalley, Delacorte Press, and the author for this digital Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.

Beautiful fall read. Pairs perfectly with crisp leaves and hot, black tea. Gorgeous genre bend with elements of mystery, time travel and fantasy. The overall tone and lyrical prose is reminiscent of The Invisible Life of Addie Larue. Emphasis on family and love eternal. This book is wonderful for those wanting Appalachia scenery, but with a melancholy feel. Wonderful for a rainy weekend in.

Happy pub day to this beauty!!

This was my first book that I read by Adrienne Young and it most definitely won’t be my last! Definitely add this to your fall tbr if you haven’t already! The magic, the mystery, the romance, this one has it all!

I went through all of the emotions in this one, and it was just so beautifully written! The main character, June, is a strong independent woman who will do absolutely anything for her family (regardless of the year that she’s in).

Thank you to @netgalley for this advance readers copy!🫶🏼

The Farrow women are not like others and June Farrow is the last of her line... but she soon finds herself having the ability to travel in time and must solve the mystery that connects her mother who disappeared and a murdered minister and why is it that she landed in 1951 and the fact that apparently in this time she has a husband and child. In the small town of Jasper, North Carolina, June Farrow is the caretaker for her grandmother who just died, and now she doesn't know what to do with her life. All she knows is that she has begun to see and hear things, a common madness that plagues the Farrow women, and the strange mystery of her mother's disappearance. When she receives a letter with a photo of a famous murdered minister that shows him being married to her mother in the 1900s, despite her being in 2023, June begins to spiral trying to solve this mystery. Then a door appears and she finds herself being transported back into 1951 and has no clue why. June is apparently married in this time and has a daughter and now she has to figure out her family's curse, her mother's disappearance, and why she was transported back to this time. This was a really unique magical realism time traveling story with a mystery and a tiny bit of romance. Adrienne Young's writing is absolutely beautiful and the story was really interesting. I normally avoid time travel stories but this one was a really interesting one to read. If you enjoy time travel with a bit of mystery then give this a go I think you'll love it!

My thanks for the ARC goes to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Delacorte Press. I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

Genre: Women's Fiction, Magical Realism, Time Travel, Fantasy, Mystery, Weird Fiction
Spice Level: Medium. (Open door scenes but not overly detailed compared to some romance novels.)

Wow! I had no idea how much I would love this story.

THE UNMAKING OF JUNE FARROW is so many things—definitely women's fiction, but it's also mysteries and magical.

I LOVED that I was learning everything at the same time as June. She is thrown into a world she didn't expect or know existed. The layers of discovery are amazing! I never knew where it would go next, but the story also made perfect sense because everything is foreshadowed or woven into the narrative.

I also loved June—she is complex and must make serious decisions. In fact, life-altering decisions.

The best way to read this story is to go in as blind as possible. There are elements that remind me of THE TEN THOUSAND DOORS OF JANUARY, PIRANESI, and other books that are hard to describe because they're weird and niche. I hope this book blows up because it deserves it.

I highly recommend this book!

Happy reading!
