I loved the audiobook The Bigamist, by Rona Halsall. The narrator's reading was easy to listen to (although, I will admit I did speed it up). The story captured my attention right from the start. I thought I knew what was happening, and boy was I wrong! In fact, more than once, I thought I had it all figured out, and then a new twist came in and surprised me. I can't say anything more without giving things away, but go into this thriller blind, and enjoy the twisty ride!

Thank you to Ms. Halsall, Dreamscape Media, Bookouture, and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to and review this audiobook.

When Emma attends a group bereavement session, she doesn’t expect to make a new friend or meet the love of her life. But it’s not long before she finds herself in a relationship with Sam, an architect who is dedicated to his work. At first, him spending half the week gone isn’t an issue, but after several unexplainable occurrences, she begins to wonder if Sam is hiding a lover or even a second family. But Sam isn’t the only one keeping secrets, and secrets have a way of coming out.

The author did a great job at creating and building tension throughout the beginning of the read. But backstories started to be incorporated to provide more explanation to the characters and their motives. While this was necessary, it did negate some of the tension and suspense that could have been present and certainly slowed down the pace in the middle of the book. There were a few times when I thought I’d guessed where the book was going – I was right for some of them but completely wrong other times, which was fun. There were certainly some things that were over the top or a little unbelievable, but it was still entertaining.

I did want a bit more from the characters. They were written well enough to not detract too much from the book. But they were one dimensional, reading as if they only existed to play their designated role rather than being real people. This made it so I never connected to them in the way I hoped, which did detract some from my enjoyment of this read.

Overall, this was a solid domestic drama/suspense that I enjoyed. My thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to read this work. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

this was a very entertaining read full of twists and turns, many of which i didn‘t see coming at all. an extremely suspenseful thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. great narrator in the audiobook too!

This book was a bit of a wild ride! I was considering DNF'ing up until about 45% because it all seemed so obvious and predictable, but I'm glad I stuck with it because the plot took a big left turn!

I will say that I hated Emma pretty much from the very start, and I only hated her more and more as the story progressed. There were some loose ends, the beginning and endings both seemed rushed, when devastating things happened the characters didn't react appropriately (they would get over things and move on so easily) and some parts you needed to suspend reality really, but overall quite the read/listen!

Great thriller with a lot of twists and turns that kept me wondering who Emma really is.
Great narrator. Enjoyable listen that held my interest.

The best two things about this book are the title and the cover, those are well done. I listened to this audio book hoping it would get better. I never connected with the characters.

Wow, well this was certainly a novel that had a lot of twists and turns.

When we first meet Emma she seems like quite a sympathetic character. She has lost her mother, her unborn child and her husband. Despite this, she meets Sam at a support group and is soon in a relationship with another baby on the way.

All seems to be going well until she calls her new husband, only to be informed that the woman answering his phone is his wife. Is this just a bizarre prank or is her new hubby a bigamist?

There were several times I has to stop and rewind the audiobook to make sure I had really heard what I did!

While I could predict some of the plot events, there were simply so many of them that some were a surprise. The ending was a rushed but overall, this was an enjoyable read.

As soon as Emma joins a bereavement group, she meets Sam. Sam is the brother of a woman named Faith, who is running the group. Emma and Sam fall in love and not only do they marry, but she soon becomes pregnant with his child. They couldn’t be any happier. Meanwhile, as an architect, Sam talks Emma into building her dream home. He is a very busy man, because not only is he building homes, married to Emma, but his work takes him away from home almost every single weekend.

One day while flipping through a magazine, Emma finds a photo of a painting that belongs to her, and that she thought was in storage, and she is beyond shocked. So she tracked down the now owner of the painting, and when she talks to the woman, the woman says she is Sam’s wife. How could this be, because isn’t Emma his wife? Well Emma wants answers and answers is what Emma plans on getting.

As I was reading as a story where the husband is a bigamist, my interest was definitely piqued. Sam is definitely hiding something from Emma but we soon learn that Emma has her own secrets. To say that I was shocked is an understatement. I am rating this book four stars because I am noticing more and more books are having an open ending which either leaves you speculating, or hoping for a second book. Other than that, this was not a solid read by Rona Halsall and I am looking forward her next book.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

🌟🌟🌟🌟.5
“The Bigamist” is a tasty and nefarious psychological thriller with several unexpected surprises. The title explains it well.

BOOK QUOTE:
‘I’m sorry, Sam’s not available,’ says the woman who answers my husband’s phone. I can’t place her voice, so I politely ask who she is. Her answer sends my world spinning out of ‘I’m his wife.’

Even with the lovely cover I almost passed. I mean how shocking can you really make this subject matter? Let me tell you, it’s pretty damn twisted and shocking! Maybe a bit unbelievable. It is fiction and I read for entertainment. If I wanted real life, I’d listen to the news. Speaking of that…there are some pretty flipping unbelievable and shocking real-life murders. A mindblowing and twisted one took place in the small town I lived in several years ago!

Sorry…back to the book. I felt like I was watching a life-altering tennis match. Each decision Emma made was a hit that could either leave her defeated or lead her towards the life she is seeking. It isn’t only her decisions that affect her life. There are numerous other players in the game and she doesn’t know who is on her side!

The pace spikes in the second half of this book. A mindblowing reveal really steps up the suspense!

Sincere thanks to Dreamscape Media for providing this complimentary audiobook through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

There are so many twists and turns in this book that it's hard to review it without giving anything away! I will say that I enjoyed all of the fun surprises, and my only drawback to the story is that I would have loved to see Sam and Emma's relationship develop a little more. All in all, for those who love a twisty thriller, this is a great option!

The Bigamist is a completely unputdownable psychological thriller. It’s one of the best thrillers that I’ve read in a while. This book drew me right in from the prologue and I didn’t want to put my kindle down until I had finished reading it. Oh my word so many twists and turns. One had me actually gasping out loud and I had to rewind back to make sense of it in my head. Superbly done by the author. All the characters were well developed but which ones can you trust. You need to read or listen to this brilliant book to find out. I would give this more than 5⭐️ if I could.

This audiobook was wonderfully done. Both the writing and the narration worked seamlessly to provide a fab experience.

The Bigamist is full of unpredictable twists and turns keeping you engaged and excited to see what's coming next.

The characters are well developed and complement the plot perfectly.

A great listen, I will be searching for more writing by Rona Halsall in the near future

This was an excellent thriller that is almost impossible to review without spoilers. This book starts out as one story then turns into something completely different and I loved it!

Narrated by Sarah Durham who did an great job at the narration.

I highly recommend this this one for it's twisty goodness!

I am may still be reeling and picking my jaw up off the floor on this one.

The narration was excellently done and tone was perfect to reel me in and keep me engaged—my overnight shift can leave me drowsy and The Bigamist kept me alert and wanting more the entire time.

I thought one thing was happening—then I thought something else—then I find that it is something different—and then that gets blown to bits.

Rona Halsall took me on the twistiest sudden movement ride ever and left me with whiplash and a dent in my bank account as I immediately added her previous works to my collection. Instant buy—I am going to go through all her other books and then bite my nails to the quick while eagerly (and impatiently I’m sure) awaiting her next offering to satisfy my craving.

This book started off so great. So much intrigue and so many twists. The narrator did a great job of it. I am from the USA, and it has a slight accent for me, but I was still able to listen to it at a 2x speed. I did not have any of the twists figured out, so that was a huge bonus. The end left me not feeling fulfilled though. It wasn't a cliff hanger, but it still left me with a lot of unresolved wondering (if that makes sense). It definitely has room for a second book, but I won't be able to remember what happened in this book in a week, so it wouldn't work for me. I can't remember the ending of most any book that I didn't just finish, so no bearing on the review. It probably would have been a 5 star with a different ending. #TheBigamist #NetGalley
