This was a great cozy mystery. I love Nan McNamara (narrator) giving life to the story and characters. I love the main character, Marci Beaucoup. Marci is a French-style baker at heart who turns into a want-to-be detective when a crime happens outside her bakery. I would like to see what Rose Betancourt does with this character in future series.

I love a cozy mystery, but this one was not for me. The main character, Marci Beaucoup from Paris (KY), was not very likable, and although I listened through to the end, unfortunately I can’t say that I enjoyed it.
Thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for access to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Cozy mystery indeed!! I LOVED MARCI!! omg she was so funny. The love triangle between her and maverick and Antwon!! I’m dying to know who it’s going to be- I’m keeping an eye out for the next one in the series!
The plot- cozy murders are normally super predictable and this one is hard to explain. The first clue makes you think- oh sure it’s this person, and then you think we’ll that’s too easy it’s gotta be someone else. (SPOILERS AHEAD) but it turned out it was him all along. I was pretty surprised since that’s not the normal way these things go.
This cozy mystery was so cute and I can’t wait for the next one!

Cozy mysteries are generally my happy place, but this one, unfortunately, didn't work for me. As much as I kept trying, I could not like or relate to the main character, starting from her ridiculous name. I didn't like that the investigation was mostly told to us through her thoughts because I found her dumb and didn't want to hear what she was thinking! Her connection to the murder felt too weak for her to make the choices she made, and her "love triangle" felt too forced. I haven't read anything else by this author, but I know that this series is one I won't pick up again. The narrator did a fine job, except I didn't like the male French accent for Antoine. Overall, this one wasn't right for me.

This was such a good cozy mystery. I always love a good culinary cozy! Now Im hungry for some pastries though! I love Marci. Her aunt is also so fun! The mystery was interesting. I cannot wait to read more in the series. Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to #NetGalley for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I thought this was a decent cozy mystery. I do think that in the beginning of the book they leaned a lot on the French obsession. It was a little too much. I am looking forward to reading the next.

Marci Beaucoup runs a French bakery in her small town of Paris, Kentucky. The owner of the building her bakery is in has decided to sell. There are two possible buyers, the first plans to demolish the building. The second preferred candidate is the charming Antoine that has promised to renew her lease. Her hopes are dashed as Antoine is suspected as being involved in the murder of his ex girlfriend that was found dead in front of the bakery. Marci sets out to save her bakery by locating the killer that she desperately hopes is not Antoine. Complicating the investigation is her crush on Detective Maverick Malone.
This is the first book in this series. I enjoyed Marci as the main character. I liked the French twist on a series set in the south. The mystery is relatively simple to follow. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Terrible. I'm sorry but even for a bakery based cozy murder this book is just too cutesy and too cookie cutter. I've read 6 better versions of this book this year alone. The cutesy name and setting were bad enough, but then you throw in a narrator who can't properly pronounce the word 'macaron' (amongst others) and you get a recipe for boredom bordering on disaster. If you're going to write a boring mystery full of over-used tropes, at least make the characters so fun and colourful that I want to stick with it for them. These characters were as flat and white and 2 dimensional as the paper they were printed on.

It was good but was kind of all over the place. I really enjoyed the plot. I also very much enjoyed the narrator.

Perfect cozy mystery. It has everything that you could want in a cozy mystery. Silly characters, food, pets, ignoring the law to solve it yourself. hahah. I enjoyed it.
4 stars

I wish I had liked this more. It has a lot of things I usually like about cozy mysteries, quirky small town, bakery, older relative, romance. But there seemed to be a lot of the sleuth thinking outloud that really grated on me, as well as a lot of really stupid choices that she makes. I understand that this is part of the story (sometimes) but really, she should have ended up dead. Also, I am OVER love triangles for the most. part. I still might read the second book...
In some ways, the audiobook version might have amplified the problems I had with the book, namely the sleuth thinking outloud/talking to herself.

I loved the idea of this book, but I found it lacking compared to other cozy mysteries I have read. The narrator was just okay

Thank you to the author, publisher and Net Galley for providing a free ARC of this book in exchange for my review.
I have read and enjoyed hundreds of cozy mysteries. But some just don't work for me, and sadly this is one I didn't care for. I had trouble connecting with any of the characters and it was all a bit - much. The love triangle made this feel more like a romance than a mystery and it was just really hard to finish.
This is one I won't be recommending to others, and I think I'll skip the rest of the series.
2 stars for 'it was ok'

When I first picked up this book, I was immediately drawn in by the charming cover and intriguing title. And at first, the premise seemed promising – a murder mystery set in a pastry shop? Count me in! However, as I delved deeper into the story, I found myself wrestling with mixed emotions.
The main character (MC) had the potential to be a compelling and relatable protagonist. Her passion for all things French and running her shop was evident, and the setting had a lot of promise. However, I must admit that her constant inner monologue debating every little decision started to wear me down. While introspection can add depth to a character, there was just too much of it, causing the pace to slow and making the narrative feel somewhat stagnant.
Now, let's talk about the love triangle. I'm usually all for a little romantic tension in a mystery novel, but the way it was executed here left much to be desired. The MC's conflicted feelings between the detective and the French stranger felt forced and lacked the spark needed to make the storyline engaging. Moreover, the detective standing her up and her subsequent anger towards him seemed like a contrived way to add drama rather than a natural progression of their relationship. Note I do kind of like their back story, I just felt like it was introduced at the wrong time, or jumped around so that it didn’t feel natural.
Another issue I had was with the sudden shift in the shop's popularity. One moment, the place is bustling and hip, and the next, it's struggling to survive after a murder occurs nearby. Understandable of course, a murder happened but I think this feeling had to do with how Marci reacted to the initial lull making it her reason for solving the crime. The lack of a dramatic discovery of the body also fell flat, missing an opportunity to inject some real excitement into the story.
While "Macarons can be Murder" had an appealing concept, the execution left much to be desired. I was left longing for a more dynamic and gripping narrative, with less internal monologuing and more focus on building authentic relationships between the characters. The potential for a cozy mystery set in Paris, Kentucky at a French Pastry Shop is undeniable, but unfortunately, this book and audiobook didn't quite hit the sweet spot for me. Nevertheless, if you're a die-hard fan of both cozy mysteries and macarons, it might still be worth a read, just be prepared for some lulls along the way.

I l.istened to the audio book of Macarons Can Be Murder and I enjoyed it. The narrator (Nan McNamara) sounded like what I thought Marcie from Kentucky would sound like and that brought personality to this story.
Marcie Beaucoup loves all things french. She lives in Paris, Kentucky, her bakery is called La Belle Patisserie, her poodle is named Fifi and her cat is Pepe le Pew. Marcie's Aunt Barb helps her in the kitchen and is quite the character! Also, the people in town believe Marcie's baked goods can create love. Although Marcie denies it, they don't believe her.
The trouble starts when a customer wants some of the love pastries and then Marcie finds her dead in front of the bakery the next morning. Marcie also finds out that the building is up for sale and she might loose her space. Since she doesn't want that to happen and doesn't want to be the next victim, Marcie starts looking into the murder.
There's also a love triangle starting between the new french guy in town (Antoine Dubois) who happens to be a suspect and her longtime friend, Detective Maverick Malone.
So, if you're looking for a cute cozy that's a good listen , I recommend Macarons Can Be Murder. I look forward to the next book and hope we find Marcie more confident in her next adventure. I also hope that we get to know more about the cast of characters in town.
Thank you NetGalley for this audio book!

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for a chance to read and review this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. What intrigued me was the fact that the book took place in Paris, KY. I've stayed there before visiting family and would have loved to of seen a real French bakery there. Ha! This cozy mystery was a great easy read but nothing stood out to make me want to continue the series if there are plans for one. The characters are likable but the story dragged in a lot of places and the ending was predictable.

This was a super cute cozy and who doesn't love an MC w/their own name??? I will definitely be looking for more books by this author and for the next in this series to come out!

I LOVE with my whole heart and soul a good cozy mystery. and this didn't disappoint. It was exactly what the bookdoctor ordered. 4.5 stars

I ultimately thought that this was a good entertaining book. The storyline was very good and not as predictable as I thought as I was listening to this book. At first it felt as it was moving slowly but half way through it seemed to really speed up and became more interesting The only fault I had with this book was the narration of it. I didn’t like her accents as they seemed to come and go and was forced with the accents.
Overall I would recommend this book.

I received a copy of this audiobook from netgalley in exchange for a honest review,
I really enjoyed Mercies' attempts at solving this murder but the love triangle was even more fun. She worked so hard not to find the detective sexy while falling for the main murder subject. I was pulled along for all the breaking and entering mishaps. I look forward to the next in the series.
