A Gripping and Intense Ride!
"The Woods Are Waiting" by Katherine Greene was an incredibly intense read for me, and I genuinely enjoyed every single moment of it! This book plunged me into a world that was deliciously dark, wonderfully mysterious, and genuinely creepy.

Greene did an excellent job of keeping me on the edge of my seat, constantly unsure of what was happening or what to believe. I was completely engrossed from start to finish, captivated by the unsettling atmosphere and the unfolding enigma. If you're looking for a book that will pull you in and keep you guessing, this one is definitely a must-read!

I DNFed this title due to its slow pace. I had no connection to the main character, Cheyenne, and could not have cared less about her quest to discover the secrets of her hometown. Overall, I did not want to invest any more energy into The Woods Are Waiting.

I am actually mad at myself I waited so long to read it. I was in the mood for creepy books when I was at the library almost two weeks ago. I checked out three books. When I finally went to pick up this book I couldn’t put it down! The writing is great the story has a very interesting plot twist. My only complaint about this book is I had to get about 100 pages in to get to the really creepy parts.

I loved the characters and I loved the romance between Cheyanne and jack. I feel bad for Nat I wish she could have a good love interest. Hunter is a tool. I honestly can say this book actually really surprised me and I was not expecting what happened in the end. Over all very good book

This is a creepy and atmospheric mystery that will be easy to handsell in the fall—the atmosphere is very fall as a whole, and the eerie picture of the Appalachian mountains is the perfect setting for a spooky fall!

Cheyenne Ashby grew up in the deep woods with her her eccentric mother, Constance. Around five years from when this story takes place, bodies of 3 young children were found in the woods and a man was arrested for this heinous crime. When another child goes missing, Cheyenne has no other choice but to track down the real monster behind these crimes which might finally unveil all the dark secrets of the past. The lines between reality and superstition is very blurred and everybody is convinced that history is repeating itself, will they be able to uncover the actual truth?

The two narrators, plus the dark, creepy atmospheric writing and the looming sense of doom really added to the quality of the thriller. It was gripping from the very begging and even though I predicted the main twist the rest of the plot points were a surprise.

2.5 stars, rounded up.

A slowburn paranormal mystery set in the Appalachian Mountains. I found this rather far fetched and thought the characters were underdeveloped, and therefore I had a really hard time getting into this. There were also a number of plot holes that took away from the story as well. I thought the concept of the book sounded really interesting, it was the execution of it that was lacking.

The two narrators were honestly my favorite part. They pulled this up from 2 stars to 2.5.

Deep in the woods of Blue Cliff, Virginia, the Hickory Man lives. The folks in this area believe that he steals children and that the woods are not safe. Children are cautioned to stay out of the woods, keep dirt in their shoes to ground them to the earth, and keep a coin in their pocket for safety.

When Cheyanne and her best friend Natalie were young, three children went missing in the woods and were found dead. Jasper, a local but outsider of the community, went to jail for these crimes but has always proclaimed his innocence. When Cheyanne returns to her hometown to stay with her eccentric mother, Constance, another child goes missing, and she is once again thrust into the town's old folklore and superstitions. However, this time, she and her friends decide that they are going to look more closely into this murder to figure out what is really going on?

I loved the atmospheric setting of the dark creepy woods. The folklore added to the mystery and created a chilling atmosphere. The mystery itself started off slowly - too slowly for me. I found myself losing interest. However, it picked up towards the latter half of the book.

I listened to the audio and didn't care for the performance. It was too one note and lacked animation. Perhaps reading the book in this instance might have been a better fit for me.

The Woods are Waiting is a debut novel from Katherine Greene and a solid one at that. Set in a small town near the Appalachian mountains, we really get a feel for the atmosphere. I seem to read a lot of books where a character leaves their home town and is called back for one reason or another and winds up involved in a mystery of sorts- this is exactly like that. The story itself is told from two point-of-views, Cheyenne, and her best friend. I did listen to the audio version, so I think that helped when deciphering between the two. There are a lot of dirty secrets that come to life and a lot of suspects that really make you wonder ... and the reveal was not expected, definitely surprised me! If you love a slow-burn mystery, this might be your jam. I prefer to be kept on my toes the whole time and to be immediately sucked in... but if you can be patient, this book pays off in the end.
I am hopeful there will be future novels coming from Ms. Greene, because I believe she has a lot of potential to write one really great!

The plot was super intriguing but i think the narration took me out of the story. I wasn’t a huge fan of the way the narrator read this one. It was kind of flat to me. The story was good tho.

I’ve been on such an audiobook kick and was so excited for my next listen, THE WOODS ARE WAITING, a small town mystery in the Appalachian mountains.

It was atmospheric and so creepy, and the narration was great.

The story was good, narration was ok to keep your attention, however I think it would have been great with at least one more narrator.

The Woods Are Waiting reminded me of good southern horror. I got the vibes of Ruth Ware and similar authors from it. The story was well pieced together and the narration was decent.

On paper, I should have liked this one. The beginning was solid; and I liked the concept. But the narrator didn’t do it for me, and the characters weren’t likeable enough for me. Ultimately a DNF for me.

I enjoyed this book. The story was interesting enough that I wanted to know what happened. Did I care for any of the characters? Not really. But they fit into the story just fine.

The narration was less than ideal. There was one narrator and I think this story needed at least two. The narrator did not really change up her voice for the man characters part and I didn't like that.

Overall, a good book!

Narrated by Angie Hickman was excellent especially as it was a great audiobook for a long drive and some of this drive was at dusk/night! I found this audiobook excellent and creepy especially as my husband was driving through the country roads in France........which made this audiobook perfect!

I thought this was so good! It's a slow burn, thriller that still keeps you interested though our the story unfolding. The woods are dark and creepy and harbor secrets that need to be know...

As far as the audiobook goes - LOVED IT. I thought the narrator did a a great job. This one was creepy and it was done so well

I read this book via audiobook, so that really brought the characters and creepy woods setting to life for me. This was enjoyable and I would recommend to someone if you want a good autumn thriller that isn't too scary.

The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick. Our library purchased and our patrons have been checking out and and enjoying the book. I see it is a popular book club choice as well we hope to have more oppurtinies to support authors like them
