As an avid fan of epic fantasy series, I was immediately drawn to "Wolf God" by Veronica Douglas, which promised a captivating blend of beauty and beast vibes, but hold on, it's not quite the same. Instead, it reminded me of the magical powers of Alina and Darkling from the Shadow and Bone trilogy, rather than the feels from ACOTAR.

The book follows the story of Samantha, a strong-willed wolf shifter, who dares to defy the powerful and alluring Dark Wolf God, Cadean. When the god retaliates, he takes her captive, believing she possesses the magic that could break a curse binding him. What unfolds is a tale of action, emotion, and shifting alliances in a fantasy world.

[
The Pacing vs Plot: The plot of "Wolf God" wastes no time, setting a fast-paced tone from the start. The dual POV narration provides us with contrasting perspectives, enhancing the enemies-to-lovers trope and adding complexity to the plot. It's action-packed and full of surprises. The author spices things up, giving us a taste of the enemies-to-lovers trope, with a possible love triangle in the mix. But I must warn you, the slow burn was slow, indeed. Wait until, about 70%.

Characters and the Story: We have Samantha who is tough and stubborn, who finds herself at odds with the powerful Dark Wolf God, Cadean. Raised in a bullying and harsh pack that believes in forceful submission, she grew up alone, and her hostility towards Cadean is palpable from the start. While her initial reasons for resisting him are understandable, she often dwells too much on her hatred, repeatedly using the word "monster" to describe him. This repetitive aspect of her character can get a bit irritating, and annoying to me, as a reader. Despite this, Samantha's past and the challenges she faced make her an intriguing character, and her perspective adds depth to the story. I will admit, I feel like I shout have read the OG series from which this book was spinned off of to understand her more. However, at times, it's a bit conflicting to witness her alternating between seeing the Dark God as a protector and then launching verbal attacks to wound him emotionally.
Now, Cadean, also known as the Dark Wolf God, is a character shrouded in mystery. While I as the reader may wish for more details about his past and imprisonment, it's clear that he is a force to be reckoned with. Fueled by rage and vengeance, he protects his realm with a ferocity that strikes fear into the hearts of neighboring realms. Yet, beneath that exterior lies a man who cares deeply for his people, both fae and shifter alike. His loyalty to his realm is unwavering, and he's not afraid to fight to the death for those he loves. Despite his brutal nature, Cadean exhibits moments of vulnerability, especially when it comes to Samantha. His love for her and his desire to change for the better make him a well-rounded and fascinating character. Rooting for him comes naturally, even during his most savage moments. His complexity and charisma make him a standout protagonist in the story.
Samantha's constant animosity towards Cadean, while understandable at times, can be a bit repetitive, but adds tension to their evolving relationship, in a way, I guess. Meanwhile, Cadean's multifaceted personality, fueled by rage and love, makes him a compelling character to follow. The supporting characters, such as Mel and Selene, are likable, though they could have been further drawn out.
]

In conclusion, "Wolf God" is a thrilling and action-packed fantasy read. Cadean, the Dark Wolf God, stands out as a strong and well-rounded protagonist. However, the story's pacing may feel rushed at times, and Samantha's relentless hostility WILL be polarizing for some readers. So, all in all, "Wolf God" is a gripping fantasy read with loads of action and great world-building. If you're a fan of fast-paced romance with a sprinkle of enemies-to-lovers, this might be right up your alley. I had fun despite my reservations about Samantha, and I might just jump into the next book, "Hunters Kiss," to see where this adventure leads.

DNF at 30.4%. This book was not for me at this time. I'm not sure I would pick it up again, but I had an incredibly hard time being interested at all in caring for the main characters. I certainly was confused to have started where it did and felt like I really missed a first book or so. It's a spin-off but I felt like I was coming in at a climatic moment versus having any real exposition. Maybe if I had read the other series first I would have different feeling. From what I have read so far, I don't believe I'd be inclined to do so as paranormal fantasy is just not my cup of tea.

I received a free e-book ARC from Netgalley and don't ever make money off my silly opinions.

While I was super interested in the love interest being a literal god with a fated mates trope, their attraction wasn’t well explained and almost felt random when it was mentioned. It’s weird that Samantha’s a wolf shifter and the wolf god, the god of her kind, could be twisted to be viewed as the enemy with persistent hatred. It’s the driving force of the plot, and I had trouble getting behind it for the first half of the book. I wish I had started with the Wolf Bound series to understand the backstory and setup for this book better instead of being pulled out of the story because I couldn’t get behind the primary plot points. Especially because this story starts out in the middle of the action that I think was set up in the previous series. The dreamland is a really awesome setting and interesting idea! The action, fighting scenes, and other creatures were fun! Overall, it’s a 3 star read for me, and that might have been higher if I read the Wolf Bound series first.

Great start for Samantha and Cadean! Love the slow burn, well written, the banter was spot on. Looking forward to read the next books.

Samantha is taken prisoner by the ruthless Wolf God because he believes she has magic that can save him. The Wolf God is the villain in Samantha’s story, but what if he was actually a hero?

This book says it can be read as a standalone series, but I felt like I was missing something the entire time - I haven't read the prequel series. I might have had a better time with knowing all that happened before hand and gotten enough background on the characters and events that happened previously. I did like that this book has a true enemies to lovers trope and that the two main characters are constantly at odds and working against each other. I did have an enjoyable time reading this and will continue on to see how their story ends.

Man I love a good werewolf book!
This book throws you in right from the start, it's action packed from the first page. I was so intrigued with the Wolf God and Samantha's story. I can't wait to see how book two unfolds. There's so much tension between them and I love it! I also really enjoyed the other characters and hope to see them return. I'm off to dive in to book two!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me a copy to read!

I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review and Oh My God! I could not put this book down.

Samantha, our main character, is a regular wolf shifter, part of the Magic Side pack, that helps to fix the prison of Wolf God in Dreamlands that he was able to escape. While successful, she catches the eye of the Dark Wolf God who she managed to injure despite not having any magic herself. Therefore she is captured by Dark God to help free him from the curse. The prophecy has been spoken - she can either save him or destroy him.

I have been drawn to this book by the cover and the description of the story and let me tell you - the book delivered and so much more. From the first pages, I was hooked and it was very difficult to put the book down. The pacing has started very strong and kept it's rhythm throughout the book, not too slow, not too fast. I was drawn into the life of our main character as well as Dark God, catching glimpses of their background and their history that has affected their personalities. Both Samantha and Dark God were very relatable and at times it was difficult to decide who to root for.

From my understanding, this series is a spin of from already existing series so for many of the readers, the worldbuilding is only adding on top of what they already know, however, I was reading this as a first book from Veronica Douglas and I was definitely not disappointed. It is easy to read without having read any of her previous books, the story explains everything really well and opens the world of our main characters with enough detail to be able to imagine it, without being overly descriptive which is not my taste.

Overall, I have very much enjoyed this book and the slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance in the great fantasy story. I have finished the book in two sittings and I cannot wait for the second book to come out! Definitely recommend to anyone enjoying fantasy romance.

First, I would like to thank the & NetGalley for the eARC opportunity. Like always, this review is voluntary & honest

It's definitely my kind of book!!
It's a truly dark romance fantasy filled with lust, heartache, lies, and deception.
You could feel the tension from Samantha and cadean from the very start, how cadean was totally obsessed with Samantha and her inner turmoil about him.
It was gripping from start to finish. I am looking forward to reading the next book

I want to start by saying that I truly thought this could be a five star read for me. It seems like something I would really love. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this one like I thought I would. I really struggled with the writing style. It was very telling and not showing. It read a little juvenile to me, which I was not expecting considering the content. The story wasn’t giving me the depth that I wanted. It’s such a fascinating concept and I expected to really be absorbed into the world and I wasn’t. I didn’t particularly care for the characters either. I can understand the people saying how much the female main character annoyed them. I was also expecting more romance, or at least more building tension. Maybe my experience with these just didn’t live up to what my expectations were going in. Between that and the writing style, it just didn’t hook me or keep me engaged.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was a fun quick read! After the worst reading slump, Wolf God was exactly what I needed.

The undeniable tension, dual POV and world building all melded beautifully.

Veronica Douglas has quickly become one of my must read authors.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book and am so excited to see what happens in book two because it ends on a cliffhanger.

Some Tropes included: Morally Grey Mmc, Hidden Power, power imbalance, different worlds and age gap.

The big con to this is it really needs to be read after the previous wolf series. You can follow along and understand without it but I would definitely have enjoyed it more with the backstory between these two.

Wolf God is filled with magic, tension, and a dark and broody MMC.

After her pack tries to stop the Dark Wolf God from destroying their town, wolf shifter Samantha accidentally wounds the seemingly untouchable god. The wound he received is unable to be healed, despite attempts by his sorceress and healers. His sorceress believes the key to fixing his wound is through the same person who managed to injure him - Samantha. She is taken captive by the Dark Wolf God and told she will be released when she heals him. Despite her hatred for the Dark Wolf God, and with no options other than being held prisoner forever, Samantha agrees to try to fix him (even though she has no magic and no idea what she's doing).

I loved Cadean. He's morally gray and a bit of an overbearingly protective control freak and gives off "I will kill you if you touch her" vibes. Samantha is such a little idiot and I wanted to yell at her, but I also love her ferocity. Because it's dual POV, the reader is given information that the FMC does not have -and the MMC purposely keeps her in the dark about- and after the two characters soften and begin to like each other, the information that was kept secret comes to light and blows up in their faces, creating a rift in their relationship again. It was very predictable as I was reading and I'm not really a fan of this "I have a secret" trope. Despite some of this book being predictable, the storyline was super interesting, and I'm hooked and will be immediately jumping into book 2 after that ending!

I read Wolf God by Veronica Douglas in less than 24 hours, because I was absolutely hooked from the very beginning. The plot was unique, unlike anything I had read before, and the characters were, while tropey (morally grey MMC with godly alpha vibes and badass, feisty FMC) well developed and relatable.

The tension in this book between the two main characters is THICK. If Samantha lets herself fall for the Dark Wolf God, she believes she will be betraying her friends, family, community and everything she stands for, but her attraction to Cadean is instantaneous and uncontrollable. Cadean is the villain in her story, and she cannot wrestle the villain from the protective god she becomes to know and understand. Cadean has lived for the last thousand years imprisoned in his land which is being overrun, and his people killed brutally, by the fae queen. Cadean clearly wants to be a better man for Samantha, but he doesn't know how to protect his people any other way than with his murderous ways.

I'm giving this four stars because Samantha was starting to frustrate me by the end. She was on an endless loop with her feelings towards Cadean: hate him, see a small example of his good side, let herself fall a little, self-destruct over her traitorous feelings, hate him again. Rinse and repeat. This was made more frustrating by Cadean refusing to open up and explain his perspective. I was ready for them to start communicating and understanding one another, but I can see that is likely where book 2 is likely going. Also, I'm ready for those dirty promises from the Dark Wolf God to come to fruition.

Some of the tropes for Book 1:
- Slow burn and so. much. tension.
- Witty banter
- He starts falling first
- Forced proximity (a lot of fun tension on those griffstriders rides)
- Enemies to reluctant lovers
- Possible fated mates
- Who hurt you / You're hurt & now I'm alpha raging

I admire a good paranormal romance, and this one was just phenomenal. Plus, the tension throughout this novel was tremendous. I had never read the series from which this one was a spinoff, but as it states, you aren't required to. I cherished Caden's and Samantha's characters, however, I personally found Samantha to be somewhat bothersome. But that might have been because I wanted them to get together so desperately, whereas she was so opposed to it. This novel had a little bit of everything, ranging from spice all the way to action. I am extremely excited to read the remaining books of the series and to see where the story takes me.

"Was there any way to separate the beast from the prince? A way to rescue the sliver of good residing in the god that haunted my dreams? ... But deep in my soul, I knew another truth: somewhere along the way, the Dark God had captured me, and he would never let me go."

#WolfGod by Veronica Douglas is great! Important to know before you dive in this is the start of a continuation series and while it is enjoyable without reading the Magic Side Wolf Bound series like I did I can see where having backstory would have enhanced the story. The characters are fantastic and three dimensional. The storyline is epic. There’s comedic relief in just the right spots, violence, sexual tension, fated mates and more involved in this novel. I definitely will be picking up Hunter’s Kiss and continuing the story because this girl needs to find out what happens next!

First of all, I definitely recommend reading the series this one spun off from first. I did not (because I'm not buying 4 books by an author I've never read before) and sometimes it was frustrating how often something that happened then was mentioned which greatly impacted what happened here. It didn't have a huge impact on getting into this story line per se, more like it would have just added a good deal of background information.

We get plenty of action here and an overall really good story. Sadly, I would have liked this book a whole heck of a lot more if I didn't hate Samantha so much. She just seemed too easily manipulated, far too head strong, and I so often found myself calling her all kinds of stupid because of something she said or did. Which is unfortunate because I really liked Cadean. I wasn't swooning for him or anything, but he was a complex and great character.

I'm assuming that this big battle against Cadean and his armies took place in the main series. We get I think a chapter of bits of it here and then move on to following Samantha around. While her and her friends were working to restore the barrier that traps the wolf god, somehow Samantha managed to actually hurt him. So Cadean has been using one of his powers to watch her and try to figure out what she is and how that was possible. When his enemies show up to try and get Samantha on their side to fight against him, he sends one of his men after her. That was a disaster but eventually Cadean does get her and takes her back to his keep. Pretty much all these two do is fight about one thing or another. Samantha has been so brainwashed and so traumatized that her hate for the wolf god overpowers all rational thought. Despite that, no matter how hard she fights it, she can't stop herself from responding to Cadean's mere presence. And she has to fight harder to hold onto her hate when she sees how fiercely he works to protect and care for his people, as well as how he has saved her life more than once. She is twisted up by how this monster can be one of the most honorable (and attractive) men she's ever met. While with him, Samantha learns that she has magic but she has no idea how to use it. She gets a little teaching in but not enough that she really gets any kind of control. And she needs that control in order to heal what she had done to Cadean. Easier said than done when magic is mostly about intent and she has so many conflicting emotions regarding him.

Cadean's brother really pissed me off and I blame him for Samantha's betrayal as well as everything that follows because it was her stupid simple mindedness that led us here with him easily manipulating her. I can't even describe how incredibly frustrated and annoyed with her character I am. And I really hope she smartens the hell up fast because I already have the next book and I don't want to have to keep hating her for yet another whole book.

God of War meets Beauty and the Beast... with faes... and it's steamy.
It's one of the best enemies to lovers I have read. You can feel the tension between the main characters the whole time. You can see how Samanthe and Caden grow into each other although one of them wouldn't realize it until the very end. They have a huge problem of miscommunication that I hope would be solved on the next book.

This book with all its tension will have you screaming, "Just give in to each other already!!"

Wolf God is about the coming together of Cadean and Samantha--two polar opposites. Cadean is the Dark Wolf God who brings destruction to those not under his protection. He is locked away behind the Moon Goddess' confinements. Samantha, a wolf-shifter, found herself a victim to Cadean's fury when he temporarily escaped. When he captures her, she discovers she is more than she originally thought and struggles to come to terms with it. They push and pull with each other fighting their beliefs and desires.

This was a great first book for a series. The ending left you wanting more but didn't leave on such a cliffhanger that was torture. Overall, I'd highly recommend this book for NA readers who like fantasy, action, and the enemies-to-lovers trope. There is a tad of smut and a lot of palpable tension. The writing is easy to read and the plot was engaging throughout.

I received this title as an eARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Veronica Douglas for the opportunity to read this treasure!

An epic tale of the wolf god, Cadean, and his mortal mate a wolf/fae hybrid. Samantha is kidnapped by the wolf god and brought to his realm to try and cure a curse she unknowingly put on him.

Throughout the story Cadean and Samantha fight their attraction and distrust of one another. Can the wolf god be redeemed with her help?

Wolf god is definitely a slow burn saga that continues in the next book, Hunter's Kiss.

Although the story was a little more slow- burn then I generally like, it had no problems holding my attention throughout, and I look forward to the next book which is already on my TBR list.
