I'm reading a lot of these kinds of books right now because I am doing a lot of self-assessment. I like how this one is framed around the idea of finding your heart again.
In some ways, the advice here is practical, although most people won't be able to physically do the things the author did. But we can stop and take stock of where we are and own our weirdness and learn to let go and accept ourselves. I think it takes practice, and we need to keep reminding ourselves of where we are on the path.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read an ARC of this

I agree that it’s easy to lose yourself in all the demands and routine of day to day life. However, I don’t believe it’s a long drawn out mystical process to find yourself again. Not everyone has the means to pilgrimage and live out of a van. Nor is that required to find joy in our souls.

I received an advance review copy for free via Netgalley and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

As the target demographic of this book, I really resonated with the themes presented. The mid-30s have snuck up on me in a way I wasn't prepared for, and I feel a little more grounded after reading this book. It definitely got me thinking as I browse through the many saved quotes from the book - which were a lot which says something. So much great, practical information that you really do have to take it slow.

The Way Home: Discovering the Hero's Journey to Wholeness at Midlife" by Ben Katt is an interesting read, and I'm sure there is a certain sub-section of individuals who will absolutely love this book and use it navigate their quest 'to come home to their heart'!

Katt's The Way Home really resonated with me since I, too, am in midlife facing changes imposed by that season of life, also impacted by the pandemic. It offers a hopeful perspective that midlife frustrations can actually prompt valuable growth and self-discovery if we commit to doing the inner work. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to find more meaning and wholeness in the second half of life.

Ben Katt's THE WAY HOME: DISCOVERING THE HERO'S JOURNEY TO WHOLENESS AT MIDLIFE is a powerful, jolting read. From the observation of "losing your heart and finding the way to get it back," Katt offers his own story and magnifies it for everyone to reflect upon their own lives: "Our individual journeys are not the same, but we are on our human journey." A standing ovation to a daring person who shared their heart, thoughts, and life in order to benefit the rest of us stumbling, wincing at our scrapes, falls, and missteps and showing us a different path entirely. it was a privilege to learn from this frank and open author. I received a copy of this book and these opinions are my own, unbiased thoughts.

As a reader in midlife, I was attracted to this book and found a lot to appreciate in it. Wonderful and thoughtful guide, and ideal for resetting/moving forward with promise and hope to tackle the next stages of your journey.

The author uses pop culture, personal stories, spiritual references, and mythology and mysticism to help walk the reader through the changes that come during midlife. He talks about his journey from society's expectations to finding his authentic self and gives the reader a ten-step program to make their own journey.

"The Way Home" is a book I would recommend for people who are in (or interested in reading about) mid-life journeys. The author illuminates "The Hero's Journey" concept through history and anecdotes and also provides specific exercises to help the reader more fully engage. This would be a perfect gift for a spiritual seeker. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.
