So our favourite spy Lisbeth, is deep on a mission posing as a lady pirate. Bonny Bess is fearsome, cuts men's precious organs whenever necessary, fights like the devil and explodes ships.
And that's how we reconnect with her and that's how she meets with our hero..
Raphael nephew of the Prince of contraband or something, has just escaped from the prison where this uncle has him trapped in order to kill him. He gets a job on Bonnie Bess ' ship without knowing 3 things:
1) His new captain just exploded 2 of his ship
2) She's after his motherfucker uncle as well
3) Poor thing he'll fall very very deeply.
So of course they hate each other at first like come on, ROMANCE 101 and then a storm happens where the captain falls into the ocean. Saint (that's the name Raphael goes by into the underworld or whatever goes by) comes to the rescue.. And then he takes her to the big Criminal Island where she gets close to her target.
So, that was an actual adventure! It was almost cinematic! There was adventure, fight scenes, love scenes, everything! Also I loved how inclusive was Amalie's writing (as all of her book's I've read) without being overwhelming or feeling random, even awkward (sorry many writers struggle with this and the result is not working for me)
One of my first notes of the book, was "This guy is definitely going to have to grovel, a lot" I was completely and absolutely wrong! Raphael was not what I thought he would be. I mean most heroes aren't, but he actually had his heart on his eyes from early, regardless the big pirate, tattoos, nipple piercing etc.. Oh, he also has a piercing on his "velvet wrapped steel" (yeah I had to use that eventually 🤭)
I had previously met Lisbeth on the previous book of the series and I was looking forward for her story. I liked her and could understand why she had such high walls. I loved that Raphael understood her and her relationship with Nari was great.
Loved it, now I'm waiting for Thorin's book... I know it's coming... It's coming right?! 🤭🤭

Smuggling, sword fights, and high stakes made this fabulous historical romance unputdownable. After being captured by his nefarious uncle, Raphael Saint hops aboard a new ship to start fresh until he can reclaim his crew—but he doesn’t realize he stepped right into the path of Lady Lisbeth Medford, aka Bonnie Bess, an undercover agent on the run. Bess is all business, but she cannot get that swarthy new sailing master out of her mind. Eventually, they’re thrown together in enough pulse-racing situations for Bess to let down her guard and trust Raphael with her life, and heart. This fast-paced adventure romance is well-researched and well-executed with commentary on colonialism, details inspired by real life lady pirates, and a fun pit stop in Gilded Age New York.

This was a good story with great characters! I love historical romance and you throw a pirate in there and I’m hooked.

Thank you for the ARC for my honest review.

I was so excited to read about Lisbeth! After her introduction in the previous book, I couldn’t wait to read about her adventure in love! Lisbeth & Saint were perfection, push and pull, both fierce in what they want and not afraid to go after it. Lisbeth was a bad ass and world renowned pirate but also an undercover spy, which made her even more amazing! Saint was set in revenge towards his uncle who had Saint’s father commuted to a mental hospital for treason and then murdered. They both had their own agendas but worked together for part of the book to infiltrate the hidden smuggling cove. There is yet to be a book by Ms. Howard that I don’t adore! Her research shows in the authenticity of her writing, the adventures are exciting and believable, and the steamy scenes are intoxicating!

I love a historical romance that's also an adventure, and Amalie Howard loves a good adventure. Spies, smugglers, lots of fighting and also lots of romance? Yeah, it was a good ol' time. Goodreads tells me that I read another book from this series, but I don't remember a single thing about it. Therefore, I can state with confidence that this title stands alone. Plus, who can say no to strong demi pansexual heroine? I certainly can't. Neither can I deny a Robin Hood smuggler trying to protect the islands where his mother was born. Only 4 stars because I did feel like the plot did lose me a little bit there in the middle, it was a little meandering, but nothing that truly detracted from my enjoyment of this book.

The fourth story in the Daring Dukes. Lady Lisbeth Medford, Countess of Waterstone and famed international spy and Raphael Saint, the Duc de Viel, is her ship’s new aggravating and dangerously charming sailing master's story. The story is absorbing and kept me turning pages with its drama, danger, suspense, villains and romance. I found the story to be well worth reading. I received a copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Give me a tattooed pieced pirate anytime, thank you. She doesn’t trust him, he flirts with her to get under her skin. Adventurous, at sea romance loved every moment.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for an Advanced copy of this book.

Wow, this book had it ALL! Amalie Howard does an excellent job of weaving a full, rich world for her characters within which the romance and steamy scenes are a mere *part* of the story rather than being the sole purpose. That being said, they really do enrich the story and give the characters even more depth.

I loved the crew members who had become like family as well as the reappearance of characters from The Duke in Question. I am excited to discover the next installment in the series.

This book was a lot of fun! The characters were complex and engaging, and the spiciness was off the charts. It was also longer than many historical romances--it kept me reading for a few nights. My only quibble is that I hate epilogues where the heroine is pregnant (as if that completes her life journey), and this one was... extremely detailed on that front. But if pregnancy sex is your thing, you'll love it! If you're a barren old crone like me, just skip the epilogue.

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a temporary digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

This was that extra little spice I’ve been looking for. I have discovered an amazing author Amalie Howard, and I am addicted.
In this story Raphael Saint is acting as a ships master and is working for Bonnie Bess, who is actually Lady Lizbeth Medford. She is an undercover spy trying to uncover a smuggling ring. Saint has his own secrets he is hiding from as well. Together on the ship they are drawn together in ways they can’t explain.
What an adventure. Definitely not the ordinary historical romance I’m used to. A diverse and well written story. I love the combination of intrigue, amazing chemistry and romance, secrets and wonderful adventure on the high seas. Howard creates scenes and characters you're going to be hooked on. The details are what makes the story so special. The heat and adventure will not let you down.
I can’t wait to read more from this amazing author. Enjoy this adventure for yourself.

I've been a fan of Howard's for a while and this story felt like her old style -- sexy (steamy!), romantic and historical entertainment. I waited for the inevitable conflict to reach its conclusion and it did not disappoint.

Oh this book had such a good vibe, I enjoyed myself so much while reading it. I know there are pirate historoms out there but I think this was my first and I have to say it has to be one my favourite subgenres? I guess we can call it that.
I found the story, the setting and the entire set of characters very refreshing. I was laughing on multiple occasions thanks to out girl Narina and her pirate slang little miss pirate wanna be was an absolute icon!

The dynamic between Saint and Lisbeth was to die for! I very much enjoy a cheeky rogue with a soft heart, I would say they are on my top three of historom heroes!
Lisbeth was just a queen? I loved her so much! I love a heroine that knows how to handle a cutlass and throw a few punches of needed to be honest we don't need the men to save us. She was such an interesting character.

Although it took me a bit to read the book it's more because of having no time than the book not reading fast or being interesting because when I was reading it I was completely glued to the pages because well it is action packed!

Loved it! I haven’t given a full 5 star rating in months, but A Duke in Any Storm is so deserving. It’s a captivating read, chock full of multi-dimensional characters and a full-bodied plot. It has heart, heat, intrigue, danger, and all the naughty bits left in. Hallelujah!

All that, and it’s multi-racial! As a black woman, who has read and enjoyed countless romances about European folks, I’m thrilled to be able to read about a full range of diverse characters, written in a way that feels authentic and intentional, and not like a token black character thrown in to check a box.

What a great adventure, and the male main character is a smoke show: The personality, the tattoo, the piercings, the constant and continual affirmation of consent. The pirate adventure is good, and the fights are fun.

What a fun and adventurous read. I am in love.I just read this in one setting. I love A. Howard's writing so so much. I enjoyed this immensely . she never disappoints. Pirates and strong heroines ..say less.
I will never not like a book that Amalie writes ! I’m in absolute awe and love with her characters and story telling, once again she delivers 10/10 recommend!

This was another great instalment of this series. I loved Bess and her pirate so much! If you like pirates, queer rep, strong heroines and pierced heroes, this is the book for you. Highly recommend, and hope Amalie Howard continues this series!

4.5 stars! This series just keeps getting better and better! Any Duke in a Storm is the newest installment to Amalie Howard’s Daring Dukes series and I devoured this one! High seas, nonstop adventure, badass spy heroine, pirates, smugglers, fast paced plot, demi/pansexual rep for heroine, he falls first, forced proximity, found family (amazing side characters), secrets, intrigue, and just all the fun times throughout the Caribbean.

I’ve really enjoyed the diversity in this series, with the characters and the setting. And all the books have just been so solid! Basically she’s a spy who has been deep in a mission posed as a pirate captain, all while trying to catch a leader of smugglers. The only thing I could say is that it was a little too long, but otherwise this is fast paced, high seas, all the adventure, and chemistry!

I received an ARC, all thoughts in this review are my own!

What an adventure!

This had it all...smugglers, explosions, street fights, rescues at sea, deception, murder and eventually a hard earned HEA.

We met Lady Lisbeth Medford, Countess of Waterstone in THE DUKE IN QUETION where she was working for the Crown. Now she is working for the American Treasury department, on loan so to speak. She has built up an incredible reputation as a real ball-buster. Her goal is simple, bring down the Captain Prince, Charles Dubois.

Raphael Saint, Duc de Viel, even though his lands were forfeit because of his lying, nasty, narcisisstic low life, bottom feeding uncle...Charles Dubois. Raphael, Saint to everyone, is determined to bring his uncle down. He is ruthless but has a strong moral compass that keeps him working toward his goal.

When they get together, they are a great team. Unfortunately, their conversations aren't revealing enough for them to realize they are both wprking for the same thing. But the story would have been a lot shorter and not very fun to read. lol Thankfully, Ms. Howard took her job seriously and gave us an incredibly fast-paced story.

Seeing Saint start to not only have feelings for Lisbeth first, but be willingbto put himself out there was lovely. I adore men that will put themselves in front of me when danger is at hand. Not be cause he thinks me incapable, but because he treasures and values me. We often see him doing that for Lisbeth.

I adored little Narina, she is a spitfire and will keepbeveryone on their toes! She is smart, sassy and at 12, knows what she wants. Her language is saucy and often irreverent, but she made me smile. It was nice to see Lisbeth's nurturing instincts come out with such force.

I look forward to the next adventure Ms. Howard brings us. She brings us a lovely blend of humor, history and in this series, a glimpse into a world of marginalized people who want and deserve to be seen, heard and included. She does this with grace and brings truth in without lectures. Thank you for a lovely series.
