Lisa can’t miss. I said what I said!

Mix paranormal with murder and I was sold from the get go. This was an immediately gripping thriller that I seriously couldn’t put down. I trusted nothing and was rewarded tenfold.

I’m giving 0 spoilers, just a recommendation to read this!! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the digital arc!

I was enthralled with this story from the beginning. It was a bit too long in my opinion though. First half of the book was nicely paced, but the second half felt rushed and left me with questions that ended up being unanswered. Overall I like the book, just wish the storyline would have tied up loose ends.

This title reminded me of Riley Sager's Lock Every Door about a building called the Bartholomew in NYC. I had a hard time reading it because of that though it had a good ending.

Addictively propulsive! The setting and characters made up for some of the ridiculousness of the plot. Whatever Unger writes next, I will read it!

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book.

When I first started reading this book, I thought it was going to be bad. Yet I was pleasantly surprised by the twists and turns of this suspenseful story.

This was a good read. I liked the supernatural aspect although I did find the characters difficult like. Good suspense and historical aspect too.

Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing, and Park Row Books for the e-ARC. This was a great early entry into spooky season reading for me! I loved this story about an author who is writing on the history of a creepy yet prestigious building in NYC and has the chance to move in to the building. A little bit ghost story, a little bit thriller, and a great mystery. I liked our narrator but I also enjoyed Willa's perspective, which added to the creep factor of the building. I also loved the bits and bobs about NYC history and the building's history. One of my favorite parts about my winter NYC trip was the architecture, and the author really brings that forward here. I enjoyed this one a lot and it was a great way for me to ease into fall reading!

This had it all: atmospheric creepy apartment building in NYC where only the rich and famous live, a will change and disgruntled relative who doesn't get what she wants, a couple trying to make it in NYC living on nothing but new love. And secrets from just about everybody. I really enjoyed this book and didn't want it to end, as much as I wanted to find out what had happened! It kept me guessing and I loved the creepy look-over-your-shoulder vibes I got from it. Definitely recommend and would read more of her books. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Chad and Rosie just inherited a multi-million dollar apartment in a desirable neighborhood and rich in NYC history. However, with their good luck Rosie also begins to discover the buildings dark past and soon after people in their sphere mysteriously die. Desperate for answers Rosie begins her own investigation into the building and its eclectic residents, and as she learns more the rope begins where Rosie begins to think that she and her husband might be next.

I enjoyed this book with its mixture of mystery and dark paranormal.

The New Couple in 5B is the first Lisa Unger book I've read in several years. I do not remember her books having supernatural elements in them in the past. That is not a change I welcome. She is a master, though, at drawing believable and relatable characters and structuring plots that hook readers thoroughly. This book did both of those things.

The New Couple in 5B is the latest mystery/thriller by bestselling author Lisa Unger, and doesn’t fail to disappoint. Rosie and Chad Lowan inherit Chad’s late uncle’s luxury apartment in Murray Hill, the historic yet cursed Windermere. It couldn’t have come at a better time since they were barely surviving on careers as a nonfiction writer and struggling actor. At first, the building and fellow tenants seem ideal and so welcoming, however it quickly reveals itself as something more sinister and unsettling. So many deaths have taken place here, and now a gruesome suicide has added to the count. Rosie decides her next book will be about the ghosts of Windermere but as her research unfolds she discovers secrets and lies that put her life as well as others in danger.

What I liked about this book:
-EVERYTHING!!! It was such a thrilling read!
-the story within a story with past and present timelines
-multiple POVs
-the creepy and gothic Windermere apartment and it’s cast of eclectic tenets which gave me serious Rosemary’s Baby vibes and Riley Sager’s Lock Every Door
-the world of publishing and authors
-excellent descriptive writing that places me right in the lives of the Windermere with superb character development
-the multiple twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat and kept me guessing who the murderer was
-the supernatural/ghosts/haunted aspect of the story that sent chills down my spine as well as Rosie’s past with her family of psychics
-potential cult aspect of the tenets
-the cameras and intercom system where you feel you are constantly being watched as well as the never aging, always there doorman

What I disliked about the book:
-NOTHING!

My rating: 5 out of 5 (if I could give more I would)

Trigger warning: gaslighting

My final takeaway- I loved everything about this modern gothic mystery! This was my favourite read by the Unger and one of my favourite books of the year. If you love creepy, spooky books with Rosemary’s Baby/Lock Every Door vibe coupled with hints of supernatural and mystery then this is the book for you.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing Park Row for this eARC that comes out March 5 2024.

Another great novel by Lisa Unger. Lots of twists you were not expecting to happen. Dark and twisted plot line. Well done.

I am leaving five stars but I actually had problems with the manuscript and was not able to read the book. There were problems with the formatting and text on my kindle.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin for the ARC.

This book was a fun read, though I'm not sure that it will be something in which our customers will be interested. Slightly predictable, but a decent page-turner.

4.5 ⭐ Dark and twisted, this book had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going on and I literally thought everyone was a murderer at some point. There was a large cast of characters but the author did a great job on character development.

Just when you think you have it all figured out, you are wrong! Haha. I didn't see much of it coming, but I had a few right guesses! The pieces came together quickly and once you know one thing, everything else fell into place like dominoes.

If you like ghosts, murder mystery, or thrillers you will dig this book!

Thanks to netgalley for an eARC to review.

I was a fan of Confessions on the 7:45 so I was excited to receive an advanced copy of Lisa Unger’s latest novel. The New Couple in 5B is billed as a thriller but it has some ghost story elements thrown in as well. Rosie and Chad Lowan are struggling with their careers as well as their finances when they suddenly learn that Chad’s recently deceased uncle has left them his luxury apartment in a historic building. Upon moving in, they begin to realize that things are not what they seem to be with the other tenants that live in the building. For one thing, the same doorman is always on duty and seems to know everything. And then, there’s the previous murders that occurred in the building. When one of the tenants is murdered, Rosie starts to do some investigating herself into what is happening in that building
Overall, I liked this book. The author kept me guessing until the very end as to who the murderer was. I did feel like the author threw in the ghost elements just to add to the creepiness of the building. I also felt that the story at times felt disjointed. That being said, it did keep my interest and for the most part was well written.
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book held my interest. I enjoyed trying to solve the mystery however I did so a little too easily. I enjoyed how the main character could see two different sides to the characters including her husband. I was a little dissatisfied with the ending.

This is one book that you will not want to put down. I was drawn in my the cover and the description and was not in the least bit disappointed in the book. It keep me wanting to read just one more chapter. Loved it!

Unger skillfully weaves the threads of supernatural occurrences and psychic abilities into a compelling narrative, Keeping readers guessing until the very end. The eerie encounters with ghosts and spirits are expertly balanced with the couple’s journey of self-discovery and the dangerous secrets of the cult that surrounds them.

This book took me on a ride! There were lots of moving parts, and everyone appears to be a suspect. It takes place in a mysterious apartment complex with a very dark murdery history.

New owners come to move into this haunted apartment, and one of these owners is conveniently writing a book about the apartments. She feels spirits. She gets warnings, and yet continues to do everything in her power to ignore all of that and write this book!

The twists and turns are great. My only issue is that some perspectives and details need more development. Then other ones need a lot less development.

I would recommend this book to my friends, and I did stay up later than I usually do to finish reading it.
