Lisa Unger has absolutely outdone herself with this one! I was enraptured from the first page, and kept falling deeper and deeper into Rosie's story. First thing: Thank GOD that our narrator was not, like in so many other books in this genre, a damsel in distress. She was a boss, and you can't help but root for her. Secondly: this book had everything- mystery, romance, great story telling (in two timelines, at that!), and a touch of the mystical/supernatural. Also, it was so layered and nuanced that the reader is constantly thrown off balance, which makes for an exhilarating ride. Lastly: just when you think the book is over, you're hit with several more revelations.... This is, definitely, my favorite book by Lisa Unger up until now, and cements her spot on my must-read author list. I cannot wait to see what she writes next.

Although entertaining, with interesting characters, this book is more than an homage to Rosemary’s Baby as the author suggests. I feel the majority of the book is derived directly from Ira Levin’s classic book, with a few new variations thrown in, such as ghosts, a creepy doorman, and an inherited apartment. It’s a page turning read from first to last, but original at all it’s not. Having said that I still couldn’t put it down and enjoyed it throughly.
Chad and Rosie inherit a deluxe Park Avenue apartment from Chad’s uncle and finally feel as though their luck is changing. But all is not as it seems, and life becomes more complicated.

When Rosie and her husband Chad inherit a fancy New York City apartment from his uncle things are bad from the start. His cousin was under the impression it would be left to her as she was his daughter so animosity ensues. The apartment has an interesting cast of characters, all wanting to get to know the new couple, but why, and why is Rosie seeing people no one else does. Trying to write a book about the apartment and its inhabitants is taking a toll, and at what cost? An interesting read from start to finish, I couldn’t put it down.

This book was thoroughly entertaining. Thriller, mystery and paranormal adjacent. I love the main character Rosie and her constant quest to figure out what’s real versus imagination. Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this. Lisa Unger is one author that I religiously read all of her work!

Realy enjoyed the latest from Lisa Unger! She definitely took inspiration from ghost stories told the past in this spooky story. A couple moves in to a luxury apartment left to them in mysterious circumstances. The deaths start piling up and the tenants are all intertwined. Great suspense and twist! Finished in a couple hours!

Unger is a favorite of mine, and she did not disappoint. Secrets abound in this story which moves quickly. The characters are mysterious and kept me guessing. A couple inherits an expensive home in a fancy building. Trouble begins. Be prepared for surprises.

Rosie is a non-fiction writer about to embark on her second book and her husband Chad is an actor who takes smaller parts while awaiting his big break. They are struggling in NYC and then miraculously Chad's Uncle, whom they have carried for up until his recent death, leaves them his apartment in a historic building in a much-desired neighborhood. It happens that Rosie' s second book is going to be about the murders, suicides, and strange deaths that have occurred in that very building.

There is so much to unpack in this tale, including but not limited to Rosie's childhood in the Ozarks of NW Arkansas, Chad's teens, a narrative of what took place when several deaths occurred in the early 1960's, and more. Other readers may feel parts of the story feel familiar and when they read the Acknowledgements by Lisa Unger clarity abounds.

Under no circumstances would I want to take the thrill that is reading a taut Lisa Unger novel from another reader so to say any more would spoil the absolute enjoyment of a day spent reading this book. Thanks @netgalley for read number 85 of 2023. I’m not quite sure how to review @launger’s latest book (not released yet). This book was part horror, part mystery, with a little romance and suspense thrown in between. I knew very little about it before I started reading it, and I couldn’t put the book down. There were some @riley.sager vibes in here too. I appreciated the twists, right until the very end, and expected very few of them. The horror/supernatural component of this book is not usually my thing — a personal preference — but I was still sucked into the storyline and eclectic mix of characters. A ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read in my books, but with many disturbing elements.

4.5 stars-This thriller is a little bit ghost and a whole lot of murder. A true crime author is writing a book about the crimes and haunting that have occurred in their historic New York building. Within the story is the tale of Willa set in the 1960’s (that was my favorite.) So excited that the Lisa Unger I have loved since her first book is back with this one! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this much appreciated arc!

A really great read with quite a few twists. I really enjoyed the added supernatural element as well as the vignette flashbacks into the past.

I went into this really excited, but I just couldn't finish it. I got to 40% (according to my kindle) and I just couldn't keep going. Things were sort of starting to happen but I wasn't compelled enough by the plot and the characters to keep going. The main character was okay, she had her moments but overall she was so meek and I didn't like her that much. I was also so sick of hearing about her past by the 40% mark that I started skipping those sections. I'm sure it tied in somehow, but either tie it in or don't--stop bringing it up the same way every other page. The husband was really one note, and the friend Max was characterized in a way where he felt like he only existed to serve the plot. I just wish this story had hit the ground running but it felt like the plot hadn't even begun at 40%. The atmosphere of this also wasn't my favorite--for an apartment building that was supposed to be old and creepy and haunted (maybe?) it didn't come off that way in the writing at all. We get one sort of horror-movie-esque scene toward the beginning and then that's about it for the characterization/tone/vibes of the building. I know that this isn't a horror but this needed some umph--for a mystery/thriller this was super slow. I also know that further in we would have gotten an explanation and more spooks but I feel like I shouldn't have to wait until 40% in for the plot to really begin. I have read other things by Lisa Unger that I really, really liked--this one just wasn't for me. Overall, not the worst thing I've ever read and the premise is super cool, but I wish this had more atmosphere, a more compelling main character and was faster-paced.

I LOVED this book! I loved the characters, I loved the way it sucked me in from the first page and never let up, I loved the way it had me doubting LITERALLY EVERYONE! Lisa Unger's writing really makes you feel like you're in the scene with the character and I couldn't fly through this one fast enough. Loved it!
