A Ranger's Guide to Glipwood Forest is a fun addition to the world of Wingfeather! Set in the Glipwood Forest, it tells tales of the rangers who have tried to tame the wild lands. It's a quick read, sure to give the reader a few laughs and leave you satisfied you've learned a bit more about the world of Aerwiar. The illustrations were so incredibly detailed and brought the characters and the plants to life!

I read this book aloud with my pre-teen daughter and teenage son, the same way we did with the original books in the Wingfeather Saga. We were all excited to return to this story world with its toothy cows, colorful characters, delightful illustrations, and interesting turns of phrase. I'd say, this book is definitely worth reading for any fans of the series wanting to reminisce.

However, I also feel compelled to say, we didn't connect with these characters or become engaged in a quest or epic battle in the same way we did with the kids featured in the original series as they discovered and came into their greater purpose. Reading this book felt more like a casual diversion with no real urgency to find out what happens next. Good for what it is, and recommended for fans of the series, but for those who haven't read the original series, definitely start there first.

The companion guide to The Wingfeather Saga by the same author, readers will be treated to part map, part history, and part travel guide. Fans of the series will eat up every page of this delightful book!

The origin (and adventures) of the Glipwood Official Rangers Guild (GORG) offers fresh insight into the series. With this guide in hand, readers will feel like they are actually traveling through Glipwood. Complete with a beast guide, travelers will be well prepared to face all the dangers they may encounter. Landmarks and how they were named are also covered in this book along with a glossary of suggested gear to be fully prepared.

Love the author's creativity in building the world of the Wingfeather series. With this step-by-step guide through the forest, I hope children will be inspired to explore their own forests with an equal measure of creativity and imagination.

True confession: I have not (yet) read the Wingfeather Saga. I will be rectifying that in short order, in no small part because of this book exposing me to its wonders to come.

_A Ranger's Guide_ is clever, humorous, helpful, witty--and brilliantly illustrated. I love it.

The one downside was the formatting on the eARC I received; I'm confident the actual published ebook and hardcover editions are much more better, and I look forward to exploring either to more fully appreciate its goodness.

Regardless, this is an excellent companion resource to Wingfeather, and I can only imagine how much more I'll enjoy it once I start reading the series.

I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

If you enjoyed the humor of On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness, you'll likely enjoy A Ranger's Guide to Glipwood Forest. RANGER is more light-hearted, similar to EDGE, with plenty of little footnotes.

There isn't really a story in RANGER, which disappointed me a little. It's primarily world-building tidbits and fun facts. So, if you're a super fan of the saga, you'll likely enjoy all of the extra factoids!

It was fun to read about several of the locations in RANGER that later appeared in EDGE. It made me want to go reread those scenes in EDGE.

Avid fans of The Wingfeather Saga will likely enjoy the new information and further adventures in Glipwood forest found in A Ranger's Guide to Glipwood Forest.

Cautions: a smidge of light romance; brief, non-graphic violence

This travel guide through the dangerous and wondrous Glipwood Forest was written by one of the founding members of the Glipwood Official Rangers Guild (GORG). Not only does he share the best and safest (relatively speaking) path through the forest, he also tells of how he met each of the other original eight members of the GORG.

I really wasn’t sure what this book would be like when I first picked it up, and it turned out to be a really fun, quick read. The humor and whimsy of the original series can be found throughout this book. At times I felt like Andrew Peterson was making up as outlandish of names and descriptions of items as he could to try to stump his son, who drew sketches of Glipwood Forest flora as well as the members of the GORG for the book. I particularly loved the sketches of Owin and Chonis Ponius Groverly, the “in-world” author and illustrator of the guidebook. Fans of The Wingfeather Saga will enjoy this return to the land of Skree, with many references to locations they’ll remember from the series.

** “This guide will get you from one end of the forest to the other, but it also aims to tell you the particulars of the assembly of the first rangers and some of our adventures in the deepest, darkest clutch of trees in all of Skree.” **

Readers can return to the Wingfeather Saga world with “A Ranger’s Guide to Glipwood Forest,” a resource that will help its reader travel throughout the Glipwood Forest, as well as the history of the Glipwood Official Rangers Guild (GORG).

Translated from the original by the saga’s original author, Andrew Peterson, “A Ranger’s Guide” returns us to Peterson’s fantastic world. Written by Owin Groverly and “embellished with nifty pictures by Owin’s son, Chonis Ponius Groverly, with assistance from Aeden Peterson, master of sketchery,” it begins with a foreword by Ollister B. Pembrick who reveals he found this book in his search of how to explore the Glipwood Forest and its essence.

Groverly reveals how he and eight others founded the GORG and created this guide, which reveals locations throughout the forest, like Trollright Stones, created by prehistoric troll actions; Brobby’s Folly, where Snickbuzzards lay their eggs; and Foot Rub Creek.

He shares many examples of plants that can be found within the forest, some helpful and some harmful, as well as different creatures, including the rockroach and the toothy cow.

“A Ranger’s Guide to Glipwood Forest,” which is due out Nov. 7, is another fun resource within the Wingfeather Saga, adding to readers’ understanding and appreciation of locations, creatures and plants within that world.

Five stars out of five.

My boys (almost 8 and 6) absolutely love The Wingfeather Saga and we have been enjoying reading the series together. This illustrated guide to the Glipwood Forest is so well done and fun to read as a companion to the books! There is so much information and depth jam-packed into this book and I would definitely consider it a must read for all Wingfeather fans to dive in even deeper to this exciting and fascinating world. My boys and I alike have enjoyed pouring over the pages, appreciating the illustrations and the descriptions within. The tidbits of facts and stories throughout took us on an adventure and I know will continue to do so every time we dive in!

Many thanks to WaterBrook and Multnomah and NetGalley for the gifted e-copy!

I was first introduced to Andrew Peterson's wonderful world of Aerwiar during the early days of the pandemic when I enjoyed listening to him livestream his reads of the wonderful Wingfeather Saga. It is no exaggeration to say that he has become one of my favourite authors and musicians. He writes with a humour that makes me laugh out loud, and has a wonderful way of describing things so that you really get a picture of the people and places. This book was no exception and I greatly enjoyed his description of the places throughout Glipwood forest, some familiar from the Wingfeather Saga and others new, as well as the tales that make those landmarks important. It makes me want to go and travel the path described in the book and experience the adventures to be found. After listening to him read the original books, I was able to hear his voice as I read this book, which really made it come alive for me
The Illustrations by Aiden Peterson are also wonderful and add to the story and the ability to envision the events. Aiden is incredibly talented and that he and his father can work together in this way is a wonderful gift. I especially enjoyed the illustrations of Owen Groverly the "author" of the guide, and his son Chonis the "illustrator" who look suspiciously like more rugged Glipwood versions of Andrew and Aiden.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the Wingfeather Saga, or a good travel guide.

Your kiddo's will love this book and so will you. I am hoping they will do more books like this in the future.

We are HUGE Wingfeather fans, so I was very excited to receive an early copy of A Ranger’s Guide to Glipwood Forest! It was every bit as entertaining and informative about Glipwood as I had hoped it would be. My son is especially ecstatic about adding this to his Wingfeather collection.

I know quite a few fans of this universe that are greatly looking forward to this book! It certainly helped me understand some of the random world building facts the kids who visit my library talk about.
