I absolutely loved this!!! I loved the character development, the storyline….and the plot twist! When I say my jaw dropped and I had to pause for a moment to let it sink in! I listened on audio and thought the voice actor did a great job. I quickly looked for Chief Maggie Riley #2 after finishing this!

Overall, I did enjoy this book. I took a chance based on the description, as I had not heard of the author before. It was well written, fast paced and had several twists and surprises. Only dislike is the ending, left very open with not much closure to the story, but I do understand this is book 1 of a 4 book series.

This was such a great one and I look forward to more in this series. It’s about a detective named Maggie who has faced some hardships. Now she is in a small town even though she is very overqualified. One night a teenage girl emerges from the woods. A body is found in the woods. The girl can’t even speak. The detective has to unravel what has happened.

Didn't realize I was selected to read this book in Netgalley. Strange...normally I get an email but I missed the boat so I wasn't able to download it. Since I was still strongly interested in this, I used my audible free credit to download it there.

Here we follow Maggie who is the Chief of police in this small town. She wanted and needed to get away from her old life so this was the perfect town to slip away to. She has secrets and wants to keep them buried. Turns out she isn't the only one in this small town who has secrets. When Maggie discovers a dead body on the side of the road, she soon finds out there are more local suspects in this case than people she can completely rule out. And when Heather stumbles out of the woods during the discovery of the body and is traumatized, things get even more complex.

This had a lot of twists and turns and a lot of players on the board.

We have multiple POVs here. We follow Maggie for the majority of the time, but we also get to see Heather's, Murphy's, and Steve's POV. Lots of characters running amuck, but the author did a good job keeping it clean and easy to follow along.

Dang...so many secrets. So many lies. I feel like this town would not be a fun and cute small town to live in. Everyone seems.......off. Creepy in some ways. Some are endearing like the lady that owns the motel but from what we have seen so far.....I don't trust any of them including our two big mains: Maggie and Steve. Don't get me wrong I do like those two, but they have a lot of secrets and have been lying to everyone....including each other.

The ending wasn't shocking for me because that character was SUPER sus the whole time. I had my doubts of course, but yeah.............that was the only way that made any logical sense for me. Nice though with the red herrings and all the seeds of doubt. Nice try author ;)

Sometimes the inner monologues seemed to drag on and on.

I also thought some of the drama with Murphy was a little........much.

The narrator was pleasant enough. Nice variations of voices. Her voice for Heather was a hair grating for me and she made her sound too young. Everyone else worked.

All-in-all, I did like this in the end. Some nice twists and a creepy, small town with loads of secrets hidden everywhere. Pretty good narration. Some OTT parts, but overall an interesting ride with an intense ending. I'll stamp this with 3 stars. I would be interested in book 2!

Great fast pace book loved the different POV with the characters. I love the build up on the characters. The story has you wanting more couldn’t stop listening.

I love Chief Maggie Riley! This is a terrific first book in her series! Shannon Hollinger is a master storyteller. This has such a great story and a main character with lots of depth. Can’t wait for more from Hollinger and Maggie!

The first of a new series that is off to a great start. I really enjoyed this book as it finally felt like the characters could be real people. They are flawed, but in the more realistic ways that you can relate to, would I trust many of them? Probably not, but I am looking forward to the next books.

There are multiple POVs but the narrator made it easy to tell the difference between them.

Fast paced and twisty, this procedural was equal parts touching and surprising.

I haven’t read this author yet but it almost felt like this dropped you in to a bigger story? I enjoyed it though and was definitely surprised by many of the twists.

I think the thing that knocked it down a few stars for me was just some of the unbelievable “leaps” the detective took and how it just wasn’t cleared up like I would have hoped.

I won’t comment on the end to avoid spoilers but I wasn’t fully sold on it.

However, I did enjoy the audiobook and would definitely consider reading the next book in the series!

I really enjoyed this audiobook.

It was a little jarring at first because there are so many perspectives but it worked as the story went on. You were given a “360” view of the story as it happened to each character.

I really liked the writing style. The characters were uniquely their own person. Which can be hard to achieve when writing as multiple people.

Maggie was relatable and kind, which is a rarity for how cops tend to be written. I’m interested in learning more about her and her past as the series continues!

I wasn’t a huge fan of the narrator. Her voices took you out of the story rather than helping you stay immersed.

I am really excited for book two to learn more about Maggie and Steve.

Excellent first of a new series about Chief of Police Maggie Riley. Maggie is chief of a small police dept in rural Maine. She finds a dead body in the woods and then a local teenage girl is nearby. Told from multiple POVs, you learn a lot of people in town have some major secrets, including Chief Maggie.

There are two other books in the series that I am looking forward to reading.

Excellent narration by Amelia Sciandra.

This is an excellent start to a new series. If you like a crime thriller, this should be a must read.

In the tiny Maine town of Coyote Cove Chief Maggie Riley who was once a high flying big-city detective with lots of secrets comes across the body of a man, blood seeping from stab wounds into the damp forest floor. Heather, a local teenage girl, emerges from the woods, shivering and unable to talk.

Told in a Multiple POV, the story alternates between the view points of Chief Maggie Riley, Her boyfriend Steve and Heather (the wandering teenager).

This book is soo good. It moves seemingly as the police try to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of the man. I enjoyed the investigative process in pursuit of the truth.
We get to know more about the wandering teenager Heather and the backstory of Maggie and her boyfriend Daniel who also has his own secrets.

Filled with lots of other characters, i initially thought it was going to be confusing but you just have to pay a lot attention and it'll be ok.

Throughout the story, there were so many loose ends, but it pieces together and ties up nicely at the end leaving all my questions answered.

I must say this, Heather's character was one of the best in the book.
The big reveal at the end blew me away, who would have thought?
I've fallen in love with Chief Maggie Riley, shes not perfect, shes flawed but she's smart, really good at her Job and isn't intimated by the "Men".

I’m looking forward to the other books in the series.

This series has promise, I’m excited to have another series to enjoy.

There are several twists, turns and revelations in this book. I loved how there was more to the characters than meets the eye. Whether I liked the Characters or not. They are all very flawed, have secrets, and captivating POV's in this book.

This is a pretty good start of a new series.

This audiobook has been on my shelf for some town, I wish I would have picked it up sooner!

This was a audiobook that just gripped me from the beginning till the end and the narrator Amelia was excellent. Its full of twists and turns throughout that will just pull you in especially as the storyline and Chief Maggie Riley was a brilliant character, I wanted to read more about her.

WoW this audiobook was excellent I highly recommend this audiobook/book 5 stars.

The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick. Our library purchased and our patrons have been checking out and and enjoying the book. I see it is a popular book club choice as well we hope to have more oppurtinies to support authors like them

I really enjoyed this book. It kept me guessing and I love that it was written from the different characters perspectives.
