This was adorable! I love this series and recommend it to friends all the time. Lottie Moon is a favorite person in church history, so this was a fun way to introduce her story to children.

This religious biography interduces readers to Lottie Diggs Moon, a Christian missionary to China for most of her life. After her baptism as a young woman, Lottie decided she wanted to spread the Gospel in other countries. At 33, she and her sister were among some of the first single woman missionaries to China. Lottie became very much at home in China and adopted some of her new country's customs, such as eating with chopsticks and dressing in loose fitting clothes. Her dedication to helping the Chinese people through encouraging women's clubs to collect money for the missions launched a worldwide offering day. An appropriate selection for a public library or parochial school library.

Lottie Moon by Amy Whitfield tells the story of Lottie Moon, a woman who introduced people in China to Jesus and tells her story in a way young kids can understand. Lottie Moon is also beautifully illustrated. I believe Lottie Moon is an inspiring story that will encourage others to tell people about Jesus. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.

“Lottie Moon” by Amy Whitfield is a comprehensive and engaging picture book for children and adults alike. Lottie Moon is a name many hear in the Baptist church, and this book can serve as a great introduction to children to learn more about her and why their church participated in the Lottie Moon offering. This is the first “Here I Am” series book I have read and I look forward to reading the rest.

My thanks to B&H Publishing and NetGalley for graciously providing me an ARC to review.

This is an adorably illustrated picture book telling about the life of Lottie Moon. With a panda as your guide, her story is told from her childhood to the end of her life, including details about her time in China and the Chinese culture that she learned. Throughout the story, there is a scavenger hunt for words used in her letter to people to tell them about China and the needs of people there for Christ. If your family gives to the Lottie Moon offering, this can be a good introduction to why your family donates to the cause. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend for kids ages 5 to 10.

Every school day, of course, we do bookwork for Math, Language/Reading, and Bible studies. We also spend an hour and a half or so reading aloud from good books, including a Bible story or devotional article, something having to do with Creation Science, history books, historical novels to go with our history study, and whatever chapter books the children choose. We also have a special class most days. For this class, we either read and/or work through a science lesson, do a history project, a geography study, or a special writing assignment. One thing that we often do during this time is read a picture book biography together. Yesterday, we read Lottie Moon: The Girl Who Reached the World. We read two other books in this series in the past few months, and the children have enjoyed all of them.
Charlotte Digges Moon, or Lottie, was born in Virginia. Her mother taught her about God and the Bible, but she did not believe these stories were real until she was 18 and couldn’t sleep one night. She began to think about God, and before long she had dedicated her life to him. Now, she wanted to tell other people about God! She and her sister were soon on their way to China.
In China, Lottie found unique ways to share God’s love with the people around her. She also came up with a new way of collecting support for missionaries. She spent the rest of her life working for the people of China, teaching them the truth from the Bible and showing them the love of Jesus.
We liked the pictures which illustrate Lottie Moon. They are simple, realistic pictures, beautiful and gentle for young children but with a puzzle woven through the entire book that my older school children loved. As with all the books in this series, they enjoyed solving the puzzle as I read the story. This was a great way to introduce the children to this woman who dedicated her life to serving Jesus.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley, and these are my honest thoughts about it.

I absolutely love this series from B&H Publishing! Lottie Moon by Amy Whitfield is the perfect book to show young girls (and boys!) what it means to give your life so that others might know the good news of Jesus. The story of Lottie Moon holds a special place in my heart because she is a big reason I wanted to go overseas myself. I truly enjoyed reading this book to my children and hope you do too!

I just finished reading this story with my daughter and she loved it! She was very inspired by Lottie's story and loved looking at all of the beautiful illustrations. Lottie's story is one I've never heard before, and I so appreciate that this series is including women, and missionaries that may not be well known! We are loving these books!

I love that a high-quality book about Lottie Moon written for children is coming out! This looks like a great series and I’m glad that a simple biography of Lottie Moon was chosen. The story reads well and the illustrations are delightful. My only slight disappointment were a couple things that were not included. The date or timeframe isn’t given and while this may not be necessary or meaningful to the kids the book is aimed at, I think it would be helpful for the adults who are buying the book and reading it to them to have a year that she was born or the year she first went to China. I also wished that rather than just referring to the “good news of the gospel” it had used a few words in language kids would understand that make it clear what the gospel actually is. I received an advanced copy from Net Galley and B&H Publishing in exchange for my honest review. This book will be coming out in October of 2023 – I will be buying copies for Christmas gifts this year.

I love that there is a new series of picture books for young kids about Christians who made a difference in the world. So far there have been 3 books released in the Here I Am! Biography series: Deitrich Bonhoeffer, C.S. Lewis, and a soon to be released book about Lottie Moon. Not often is this type of series geared toward younger children. There are a lot of Christian biographies for middle and high school readers, but not as many picture books for young elementary aged kids, so this series it’s definitely filling a niche in the market.

This book by Amy Whitfield offers a very basic introduction to missionary Lottie Moon’s life. I was left wanting to know more about Lottie and the ministry in China. A specific story of her dependence upon God or an interaction with her friends in China would’ve been welcome. Did she ever go back to America and see her family? Was her sister there in China with her the whole time? Still, I definitely learned some interesting facts about Lottie’s life and ministry.

I’m enjoying the illustrations in this series of books. They are warm and whimsical in my opinion. I believe children and parents will be drawn to them.

All in all, this is a worthwhile series of books that I would highly recommend. If I had young children or grandchildren at home, I would purchase them all.

I received an arc copy from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Great children's book on the life of Lottie Moon! This is a much needed book. Last December I went in search of a book about Little Moon to share with my 5 year old class. Everything I found was either old, uninteresting or too long. This is perfect! The illustrations are great and the story is simple yet it includes everything I'd hoped for. I didn't particularly like the panda that kept popping up on some pages but I understand it is a connection with China. But the information in the green boxes was always good. I definitely will recommend and buy this book.
Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read this book. The opinions are entirely my own.

Another cute book in this series of biographies for little ones! There's always a little "game" to play within the book. This one has the child look for words to make up a quote. Little Moon was quite a lady! :)
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance e-copy of this book! The opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I love how this series is called Here I am. Charlotte Digges Moon was a woman a answered that call when she heard and understood the gospel. Her life changed. Growing up in Virginia with a large family and very well educated, she left all that she knew and went to China. More than a 100 years later, the Baptist Church all across the country remember Lottie Moon during the Christmas season of giving. Gifts that are given are donated to the missionary work of the Baptist church all over the world.

Lottie Moon was a beloved woman who shared and served all that she had for the sake of Christ. A great role model for our children. Her story will inspire!

A special thank you to B&H Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Lottie Moon is the third Christian biography in the Here I Am! series for ages 4-8. Kids will love this exciting story of how God takes a feisty, mischievous girl from Virginia and turns her into a missionary to China. Lottie spent the rest of her life ministering to the women and children of China, and her work continues today, over 100 years later. Beautiful illustrations, a cute panda narrator, and hidden words to find make this a book that will be enjoyed over and over again.
I have had the privilege of reviewing all 3 books in this series (including C.S. Lewis and Deitrich Bonhoeffer) and they are all excellent. I sincerely hope more books are planned. These are strong Christian role model for children (and adults) to read about, with important life lessons to learn. Highly recommended.
