I love Kiersten Modglin! Wait for Dark is just as dark and twisty as the rest of her novels. There’s blackmail, revenge, and secrets.

There are some plot holes in the story, and you do need to suspend a little disbelief when everything is revealed at the end, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the ride. I loved that there was a mystery element included too; I would definitely call this a mystery thriller.

I think June was an interesting character and was not what I was expecting. The ending is fine, and I admit I do like some of Modglin’s other books a little more.

That said, this is a short, quick read and you should definitely give it a read

Psychological thriller about a gynecologist & his wife. Slightly unusual couple in that the husband works as a male prostitute to earn extra money. When they are blackmailed, other secrets emerge and the couple must work together to save the life they have built for themselves. Short but entertaining. Good as an audiobook.

Wait for Dark was a great read by Kiersten Modglin. The Ashleys want to build a future detached from their past issues. They are happily nmarried, in love, have become established in their dream careers, and are closer than ever to being debt-free. They meet a woman who is rich, powerful, single minded in her goals, and not used to being told no. Unfortunately she also knows about the dirty deeds they partake in. She has told them that if they don't do what she wants, she will expose their secrets no matter the ramifications. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.

Huge fan of Kiersten Modglin here, and I can never pass up an opportunity to read her thrillers.

Willa and Hunter have been leading a comfortable life until a wealthy and determined individual enters their lives, threatening their livelihood. If they expose this person, they may end up in jail. However, if they give in to her demands, they will commit an even bigger crime. The couple faces a tough decision. Amidst this turmoil, they uncover secrets each of them has been keeping from the other.

I found the plot of the book to be disappointing. It did not have the same gripping and intense elements that the author's previous works had. Despite the numerous plot twists, I did not find the story captivating enough and lost interest. Nonetheless, I am still a fan of this exceptional author and eagerly await her upcoming psychological thrillers.

Thank you, NetGalley, for providing me with an advanced copy of the novel.

Didn’t love the storyline of this one but was in the mood for a quick read. I wanted to figure out what was happening but never got fully invested. As always a super quick and easy binge that keeps you curious. I did find it was a unique storyline though.

I really liked the audiobook narrators, they did a great job.

I love how every book the characters are so different and the story is unique.

I truly liked this giggalo style book and how it added depth and layers to selling yourself for freedom. It kept me interested for sure...who wouldn't.

What an fun psychological thriller about a couple in an extremely unconventional marriage, and who would sacrifice everything for one another. Kiersten Modglin doesn't ever disappoint! Wait For Dark stays true to this author's wildly popular pattern of thrillers that capture the readers attention immediately, promise unbelievable twists, and demonstrate a surprising amount of heart in the midst of a wild ride.

I am enjoying working my way through this author's library. Thank you to NetGalley and Kiersten Modglin for the opportunity to read and review Wait For Dark.

4.5 rounded up

“Family is what you make it.”

“You have to wait for the dark times to come along to prove your strength.”

Continuing my KMod binge and loving every minute of it.

The first couple of chapters had me confused with Hudson’s sexcapades. So I was worried I missed something but….I didn’t, luckily I kept going and trusted the KMod process. She wouldn’t do her readers like that, she always makes it make sense.

This one had several solid plot lines intersecting, which is something Kiersten does so well. She develops characters so expertly so you feel like you know them and can anticipate their behaviors.

I loved the sense of loyalty amongst certain characters. I loved the secrets. I loved the understanding and points of view.

The ending was wrapped up nicely too.

I've recently listened to several of Kiersten Modglin's books. Two of those books (Wait For Dark & Don't Go Down There) have a lot in common. Both are fairly short books that can easily be listened to in one afternoon. They each feature a husband and wife duo that find themselves in a sticky situation and are loaded with twists as they navigate these situations. And both are enjoyable reads that pull you in from the very beginning.
Although thee two have a general theme in common, I recommend reading both - the twists and how the spouses cope in these situations definitely set the two books apart and kept me on the edge of my seat.

Thank you to @netgalley and @dreamscape_media for the gifted copy of these books.

I don’t think I had many expectations about this one when I started listening to it. Then the life the protagonists lived threw me off, and I didn’t know what I should expect. Pretty soon I was so invested with trying to find out why someone would want to ruin our protagonists life that I couldn’t stop listening. I grew to dislike the villain so much that I saw no way for the protagonists to get away from her. As the story developed, o couldn’t believe how many secrets all characters kept and the way in which all their lives were intertwined just shocked me. I’m so glad I was able to listen to this one and totally recommend! I think the narrators also did a great job with this one! 4⭐️ from me!

Waiting For Dark
By Kiersten Modglin

Dr Hudson and Willa Ashley have formed a life that they love. He’s a GYN and Willa is a social worker placing children with adoptive parents. Yes, they live paycheck to paycheck with Huds student loans and Willa’s modest pay. This is why Dr Ashley, aka Henry, has a side job in which he has had since college. He has strict rules of only working with established clients. One night he gets a call for a new client who will pay 3x for a couple of hours with him. This is one client he wishes he would have stuck to his rules with.

I always enjoy KMods stories and this one is no exception.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC of this audiobook.

"Wait For Dark" had me questioning the importance of being out of debt, being financial secure, and holding nothing back from your partner.

The Ashley's may look like the ideal couple from the outside but they hold many secrets, pain, and traumas. Author Kiersten Modglin had me reflecting on the important things, how the Ashley's found themselves in their current predicament and left me guessing as to the truly extreme motives.

Twists until the very end, "Wait for Dark" was a thrilling read.

This was a twisty K-mod story! I love how all the twists are intertwined and all come together at the end. This was definitely a "page turner" that I finished listening to within just a few hours! Loved it!

I really enjoyed the narrative voice in this story which started out feeling sharp and dangerous. I love a story about a couple with a complicated relationship.

Unfortunately the plot setup required a level suspension of disbelief that I wasn't willing to make. The issue just seemed a little bizarre and felt over the top. This one had a lot of potential so other readers might enjoy it more if they are ready to make that leap.

Disclaimer I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

I really enjoyed listening to this thriller while I was doing a jigsaw puzzle. The narrators of the book were fantastic, and they did a great job.

The story is about a couple called Hudson and Willa who are successful people, but they need some extra money, so Hudson still does his job as an escort, alongside being a doctor. While escorting a client, Hudson gets into bother and his client starts blackmailing him so that she can get them to give her a baby. I found this concept really interesting, and I enjoyed all the twists and turns that came from it. I liked how this story was different to a lot of other thrillers, and this made it more enjoyable.

I recommend this book highly, and I will be sure to check out more of this author's books.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

Kiersten Modglin is an author I thoroughly enjoy reading, and her books are all quite similar with slight variations of characters/plots/premises. So if I need a psychological thriller, I can trust she will deliver!

𝐖𝐚𝐢𝐭 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤- A happily married couple with a dark secret, meets someone who gives them an offer they can’t refuse…LITERALLY! She knows about the secrets done in the dark and threatens to expose them if they don’t do what she’s asking of them. This was a complete page turner, (although I listened to it so a five more minute-er?!?) I wasn’t prepared for the dark turn it took, or the reality of their lifestyle, but, regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

This is easily the best audiobook I've listened to in 2023. Not only was this story engaging, but the narrators were fantastic. Every twist and turn...I didn't know what to expect truly. I felt so much anxiety for the couple as they were placed in such a make-or-break position. I love thrillers with solid endings that don't feel rushed... and the ending of this book was absolutely perfect. Despite all of the craziness, this actually had a happy ending.

This book was simply addictive. I found myself making up any excuse to continue listening! The beginning was a startling but awesome surprise, as soon as you realize she KNOWS about his side job. Totally changes the tone of the book in a GOOD way! The narration was excellent, and the plot and characters were intriguing. Just when you think there’s no hope, PLOT TWIST! Loved every second!

WOAH baby, this was intense. Kiersten Modglin writes such fast paced "WHAT WOULD YOU DO?!" books. I listened to three of her books in a matter of 48 hours. This was a really neat premise with interesting backstory and a really well developed plot line.

I received an advance copy. All thoughts are my own.
