Toxic work place, bullying, tiny cubicles - leads to a psychological thriller that weaves a story told by two women who are coworkers, both who come off one way and then represent themselves another.
When one doesn’t show up for work, when she’s always punctual, the other goes in search of her, only to find a blood trail.
This story is told by the two flawed characters, emails, untrusting parents, a corrupt company, cheating partners- who can we trust? Who’s telling the truth? Who’s truly evil? Manipulative ?
This was a wild ride. I had no idea where this story was going. There were so many twists and turns that lead to an ending I didn’t quite expect but enjoyed none the less.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Coworker by Freida McFadden was a thrilling and shocking novel that had a few surprising twists. Wow! Somethings happen to this coworker and I couldn’t figure out who or why. Written well this one held my attention and I finished it in one day! FM is good at writing suspenseful mysterious stories. I thinks she has a special talent for this genre.
I chose to listen to it and it was narrated by Alyson Krawchuk. She did a really good job and I do recommend it.
Thanks Dreamscape Media via Netgalley.

This book took me on a ride! The premise was unique for a thriller-taking place in the workplace. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything like it. It was unique and the dual POV between Dawn and Natalie made me want to keep reading. I devoured this in 2 days! I loved the twists all the way up until the end! I’d definitely recommend this one. I really employed the narrator. I think she did great getting the personalities of the 2 main characters.
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for access to this ALC

I absolutely love this author! Two women. An office filled with secrets. One terrible crime that can't be taken back. Frieda keeps you on your toes with this twisty thriller. As soon as you think you know what's going on she pulls the rug out from underneath your feet. Excellent ending! Thank you NetGalley for this ARC

Oh I loved this twisty thriller!! It kept me guessing at the end!
I enjoyed Ward D and was thrilled to see a new novel coming out from Freida McFadden!
Dawn & Natalie are co-workers. The beginning of the story throws you into the deep end & you need to play catch-up! Bullies are bullies?
There’s a time shift back in forth, a supportive BF, a bully of a detective, a boss that’s cheating on his wife, a dead plain Jane & everything points at Natalie the office bully,
I enjoyed this book and look forward to this author’s next novel!
Thank you NetGalley & Hollywood Upstairs Press! Great psychological thriller!!

Have I told y’all morally gray is my favorite color? Give me all the antiheroes. Toss in some toxic traits and a bunch of red flags? I’m sold 🖤.

Dawn Schiff is weird. Everyone knows it, including Dawn herself. She has a fanatical obsession with turtles, she says any thought on her mind (offensive or not), and she has an impossible time making friends. She is also punctual to a tee. So when she doesn’t show up for work, her gorgeous popular coworker, Natalie Farrell, is concerned. When Natalie goes to check on Dawn at her house, she realizes a vicious crime has been committed. And now she’s stuck in the crosshairs. Nothing is what it seems and nobody can be trusted. Will Natalie uncover the truth before it’s too late?
.
Twist after twist unfolds in this compulsive read. The story is told from the alternating perspectives of Dawn and Natalie. I could not stop listening. Alyson Krawchuk does a brilliant job narrating, and I actually thought there were two narrators!

Don’t sleep on this one y’all.

CW: bullying, suicide

A missing coworker, Dawn, sends Natalie on an investigation to found out what happened… but not everything is as it seems once the police start questioning Natalie.
Normally I am a Freida Stan/lover/fan, etc! But this one just didn’t do it for me. It was kind of on the slower side and I happened to guess a twist or two.
I also didn’t think there was a lot of “action” or scenes that “kept you on your toes” like some of her other books.
Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape for this free audio ARC!

Thank you to NetGalley and Freida McFadden for this audio-ARC in exchange for my honest feedback and review.
Unfortunately I DNF'd this audiobook. Listening to the portrayal of Dawn I was downright disturbed. It was hit over the head again and again about how she likes turtles and how weird this is. How her liking turtles weirds out her cubicle mate. It's obvious Dawn is an autistic character and the author must not like autistic people the way she describes her. I tried to read a Freida McFadden book before but now it's become obvious to me that her books are not for me.

2.5/5
The Coworker by Freida McFadden and narrated by Alyson Krawchuk kept me invested in 8 hours of listening. The narration easily provided a range in character voices and was mostly enjoyable to listen to, with the exception of all those emails (subject: re: ugh!. I particularly like the alternating POV in chapters from main characters, Natalie and Dawn. Ancillary characters each had their own backstory as well. The chapters go back and forth to provide history to current day events.
While Dawn clearly had a diagnosis on the autism spectrum, the author failed to bring forth any elements of this into the story, i.e., medication, hospitalizations, therapy etc. I found much of the story predictable, even with the authors attempt to lead the reader into different directions. I was left feeling like major points in the story, including the ending, were just too far out there and unbelievable. While I may need a break from mean girl/bully revenge stories, this author has left me completely underwhelmed with her last two books.
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for my ALC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are authentically my own.

This Audiobook was truly so great! Narrators did such a great job and Frieda can do no wrong with her books!!!

Thank you to the author, narrator, publisher and Net Galley for providing a free e-audio version of this book in exchange for my review.
I'm sorry, but this was awful.
I've read a few books by the author and they've been ok, not favorites. But this was awful. Where to start? I had a hard time believing this was a novel about adult women, for starters. It was clear from the beginning that the character Dawn may be on the Autism spectrum, and it was horribly done. The endless emails was difficult to follow along with. The story was over long.
Then there's the narration. I'm not sure if I've listened to this narrator before, or it was the production quality, but the voice was terribly robotic, but also little variation between different characters.
This was just a huge disappointment for me. I won't be recommending it to anyone, and I'm going with a 1 star review. I'm sure loads of people loved this book and I'm an outlier, but there was just nothing enjoyable about this one for me.

The Co-Worker by Freida McFadden is one of those books you think- do I want to finish this. I did. A Female Main Character on the Autism spectrum is seemingly innocent enough with her office coworkers but clever enough to create an elaborate plan to get back at one of them for an act of bullying from their adolescent years. I'll admit it keeps you guessing- so hang in there. The narration by Alyson Krawchuk provides good voice distinction between the different characters. Frankly there is quite a bit of emotion attached to characters that in their behavioral description defy having any. Thank you to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC of the Audiobook.

My feelings on this one? Ehhhh… is all I can say sadly.
I will say that McFadden did a marvelous job of making me extremely dislike one of the MCs. I literally couldn’t stand the emails read out loud every couple of chapters - I rolled my eyes every time the narrator started reading one. I will say that the reveal at the end made it kind of worth the read, like 80% worth it 😂

Wow! Two very different women share the stage in this entertaining - often riveting - audiobook, ably narrated by Alison Krawchuk, and written by Freida McFadden. This twisted tale is told from the alternating points of view of the two main characters:
Natalie Farrell is a Barbie Doll/Cheerleader/Popular Girl. We get a major portion of this story from her point of view.
Dawn Schiff, we suspect, may be Autistic or suffer from Aspergers. Her observations and comments are short, abrupt and narrowly focused.
At one point I got a chuckle out of how even the police investigators became fixated on Dawn's turtles, using them as evidence at one point to try to convict their main suspect.
The twists just kept coming, and I was totally amused by that ending. Warped justice, to be sure!
I can't go into details without dropping major spoilers, so I am just going to encourage you to either read the book or listen to this highly entertaining audiobook. Highly recommended. My thanks to NetGalley, the author, and Poisoned Pen Press for granting me an ARC of the audiobook for The Coworker in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars
This story was so odd from the beginning but intriguing. I learned lots about turtles 🐢
It was a super quick read and I didn't expect the ending at all! The characters were all very different and although unrelatable and unreliable this was still so good!
Huge thanks to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review

Thank you to netgalley and dreamscape media for the advanced copy.
As soon as I started the audio for this book I was sucked in! I wasn’t sure who to believe. The author just pulls you into this book and you just have to keep going. It’s a definite page turner! It was told differently, which I really enjoyed! It goes between past and present tense. Also some of it is told through emails which was interesting. I didn’t see the ending at all and my jaw dropped. I usually see them coming! The twist at the end was satisfying as well! Definitely recommend it to thriller fans!

Author Freida McFadden has a way of creating these all consuming plots where you think one thing is happening and you become completely blindsided by the truth.
When an routine oriented coworker suddenly fails to show up to work, only one person seems to notice or be concerned. So when Natalie, her next door cube mate, feels compelled to go to her house looking for her and finds an immense amount of blood, the last thing she expected was to turn up as the number one suspect.
Prepare to be swept off your feet with this newest by McFadden. An ending you won't see coming!

Dawn always gets to work at the same time everyday. She takes her lunch break at exactly the same time everyday. People in the office can set their watches by Dawn’s strict adherence to a schedule, so when she’s unexpectedly not at work one day, her coworker Natalie is worried. Natalie goes to Dawn’s house to check on her and finds blood stains on the carpet. This sets up a chain of events that lead police to believe Natalie is involved in Dawn’s disappearance. Told through Natalie’s point of view with email conversations between Dawn and her best friend, readers are taken on a journey of workplace bullying, inappropriate office relationships, and a police investigation. Frieda McFadden has woven an unpredictable story, and just when readers think they have everything figured out, McFadden throws in more twists. Narrator Alyson Krawchuk really brings the characters to life, especially Dawn with her cadence and excitement about turtles. This book is a must read for mystery lovers and anyone who works in an office environment. McFadden will have readers second guessing their own work places after reading this.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced audiobook copy of this novel!

THE COWORKER by Frieda McFadden and narrated by Alyson Krawchuk is a quick, unnerving suspense.
Two women and two perspectives give a clear impression that one of them is not telling the truth. Or are either of them?
I really enjoyed McFadden's The Housemaid, and had similar expectations for this one. I think it was similar in style, but it didn't hit me as strong this round. The characters were all relatively unlikable and though that can be fine, I felt this made me care less about what happened.
There were some clever aspects of this story, and I was entertained. I did figure out some of the twists, but not everything. The ending was well done, to me. I enjoyed the very untidy way it wraps up.
⭐⭐⭐💫
I actually think this book was a victim of book hangovers. I have read some really incredible stories lately and while this was a enjoyable listen, it just couldn't quite compare.
The narration was very well done. Dawn is clearly voiced with what seems to be a neural divergence while Natalie has the bright, mean-girl, "blonde" lilt.
I do think that for a fun, suspenseful thriller that leans a bit more to the popcorn variety, this will be a great choice. Thank you, @netgalley and @dreamscape_media for the opportunity to listen to this ALC and share my thoughts! This title publishes August 29.

The Coworker (Audiobook) by Frieda McFadden
Dawn and Natalie are coworkers. They are not close friends, more like acquaintances but when one Tuesday morning Dawn does not show up for work Natalie starts getting worried, because Dawn is always at her desk at 8:45am like clockwork. Natalie is so worried she drives to Dawn’s house to see if she is ok but when the back door is unlocked Natalie walks in to a crime scene, the next thing she knows Natalie is arrested for Dawn’s murder and is going to be jailed for life…. How did this happen? Natalie says she is innocent but the police say Natalie bullied Dawn and hated her enough to kill her. What is going on?
I loved this book, the story was fast paced and had twists I did not see coming. The narrator was wonderful, giving each character a different voice and persona.
