Fantastic twisty thriller, per usual for Freida! I loved the narrator, she did a fantastic job differentiating between both main characters. Audiobooks can be difficult to keep track of, as it’s easy to drift off and stop listening, but not with this book! She did a great job keeping me listening.

When I get the opportunity to read a new Freida McFadden book, all other books are put on pause because SHE IS INCREDIBLE!

Also, who knew I would learn so much about turtles!

Thank you NetGalley for this arc. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed The Coworker by Frieda McFadden. This thriller was definitely different than all of her other works - it seemed a bit slower and had a different tone, but still was super bingeable and I was easily hooked. Dawn and Natalie I felt were both well fleshed out, and I really had a hard time deciphering how the novel was going to turn out in the end. At times the recurring facts about turtles became a little much, but I don’t think it took away from my enjoyment of the book. I also did not see the twist coming and it definitely got me. A super quick and easy read! Can’t wait for more of McFadden’s work in the future!

The story of Dawn and Natalie had my attention from beginning to end. Such opposites personalities with a mystery that will have readers grasping for the truth. The story kept great pace and unraveled giving a little bit of the truth at a time. Some points a little predictable but overall I really enjoyed the story and characters.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape for the audiobook of The Coworker.

The co worker

Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for granting access to the advanced reader copy of this audiobook by Frieda Mcfadden.

I am already a fan of Frieda Mcfaddens work and this novel did not disappoint. So if you are a Mcfan I definitely recommend adding this to your TBR.

The story follows two women, Dawn, a slightly eccentric newly hired accountant, and Natalie, a mean girl salesperson who are coworkers. It also follows two timeliness, Dawn's emails starting 9 months ago, and Natalie's current experiences. Together they build a picture of their complicated relationship.

The prose leads you to question motives, intent and morals behind each character and builds to an interesting and twisty conclusion.

I thoroughly enjoyed the journey, I found this book engaging and gripping and I would recommend to all thriller lovers.

Dawn and Natalie were coworkers who shared a cubicle, and to put it mildly, did not get along. Natalie is popular, social, well-liked by everyone. Dawn is awkward and a bit obsessed with turtles. Dawn goes missing. And then Natalie receives a strange phone call that sounds like Dawn asking for help.

It becomes clear that something has happened to Dawn. There's blood at her house, and the murder weapon is missing. All signs start pointing toward Natalie as the killer. But did she do it?

This was actually my first Frieda McFadden book ever! I really enjoyed this one and will definitely check out her other books.

Thank you netgalley and Dreamscape media for giving me an advanced review copy in exchange for an honest review.

Oh Freida, you did it again! I couldn't put this book down. The narrator totally nailed the characters. What an interesting story about two coworkers working at a nutritional supplement company. Dawn, a seemingly harmless crazy woman who works as an accountant and lacks people skills is totally obsessed over turtles. Natalie, her co-worker the top sales person, gorgeous, successful, well liked and always succeeds at everything in life.

The book turns when one of the women disappear and it appears the other is responsible for her disappearance. I enjoyed the twists and turns and in typical Freida fashion, the ending surprising.
I'm so glad I'm part of the Freida McFadden facebook fan club. Thank you Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to pre-listen to this book.

Freida McFadden is on the fast track to becoming my favorite author. This is my fourth book by the author and I have loved every one. I can’t wait to start my next book by her.

In the Coworker Natalie is a sales rep and Dawn is the company accountant. Dawn goes missing and presumed dead and Natalie becomes the prime suspect.

During the book you are getting two primary perspectives. You follow Natalie and it seems like she is just a genuine person who makes some mistakes but is nice to everyone.

You then get a perspective from Dawn that’s through her emails to a friend that paints Natalie in such a negative way. It tells the story of how Natalie bullied Dawn and makes her look guilty.

You try to figure out what’s true and what’s not during the story and even if you do figure out what you can believe you will still be shocked and how this story concludes.

I will read anything that Frieda McFadden writes and will recommend all of them.

Every time I start a Freida book I think, “this isn’t like her, it’s so predictable”. And then… BOOM!! Absolutely every time. I loved The Coworker. Twist after a twist and I couldn’t stop listening. Perfect narrator to match the book! You are going to want to preorder this one!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

This review is for the audiobook version.

Narrator:
Five stars for the narrator and four stars for the story. I thought the narrator did a great job capturing the personalities of Dawn and Natalie. There are a lot of audiobooks that I have a hard time focusing on and end up tuning out the voice and having to go back to listen again. That was not the case with this one. The narrator kept me focused for the entire book.

Book:
Turtles, turtles, turtles. Lots of turtles! There came a point where I thought it was a little over the top. I will forever associate this book with turtles. I feel like this style was a little different than McFadden's previous work, but I still really enjoyed the story. It was fast paced and suspenseful. Although the twist wasn't as twisty as I expected based on her previous work, it still left me satisfied. I really enjoyed Dawn's character as she is portrayed as someone on the spectrum and I think the author did a really good job with character development.

This is yet another winner for Frieda! When Dawn, a neurodivergent turtle loving accountant at Vixed vitamin company goes missing, everyone assumes her coworker, Natalie, is to blame. There's a lot of blood found at Dawn's apartment, along with Natalie's fingerprints. The evidence against Natalie continues to pile up but Natalie insists she is innocent. If Natalie is innocent, who is the real killer?
This book was short and fast paced and everything I have grown to love in a Freida McFadden novel. Enough twists to give you whiplash and an ending that will leave you wondering what happens next. Absolutely recommend!

First I just want to say that I will read anything Freida writes lol she is one of my auto-buy authors. Her books are super quick reads that you can binge in a day! This one was no different.

I think this book was definitely not like any of the books I have read by Freida! The premise was unique compared to others, and I enjoyed seeing how things were going to end. However, this was not my favorite of hers 🫠 a lot of it could have been because I wasn’t a fan of the narrator, but it also was because it fell a bit flat for me. It seemed to drag on and not have me at the edge of my seat.

As like any book I read by this author, I did not see the twist coming lol I actually really enjoyed it and then it got a little slow again until the very end which I was like oh shit lol.

This may have not been my favorite book by Freida, but I definitely think it is still worth the read especially if you’re a fan like me! Than you so much Netgalley and Dreamscapemedia for this audiobook in exchange for my honest review! 🖤

I absolutely loved this author! Two women. An office filled with secrets. One terrible crime that can't be taken back. Frieda keeps you on your toes with this twisty thriller. As soon as you think you know what's going on she pulls the rug out from underneath your feet. Excellent ending!

I have loved all of Freida McFadden books but this one was a really hard read for me. I don't like books where special needs people are made fun of. We all know it happens but I don't want to read about it. This just wasn't the book for me.

I got my hands on an audio version of this book, which was a total accident as I meant to request the e-version. I don’t do as well with audiobooks and frequently DNF them, but I actually made it through this one and stayed interested and focused on the story for the vast majority of it.

I have to say I had a few issues with the narrator, especially at the start. At one point I’m pretty sure she said “Abdomum” instead of abdomen, and there was a scene where an eerie phone call came through that really irked me - the narrator whispered a frail “help me” but then said the voice on the phone had sounded “frantic” and “panicked” and “hysterical” which is the literal opposite of how I’d have described her version.

The plot of this book was fairly obvious to me right from the start, but I will say that the author through in a few additional twists that you won’t have seen coming. This contributes to the book being a bit of a wild ride, as the extra plot pieces just keep coming at the end. It sort of felt like too much for me, especially since little else in the story added up to some of it.

Overall, not my favourite Freire McFadden book, but still good enough that the audio version kept my attention and had memorable qualities. You won’t be disappointed by this one, though you may not like it as much as her others.

The first half of this book was so boring I almost DNF'd it. The characters felt robotic and bland and the story line seemed to be going in only one direction. Also, I never want to hear the word 'turtle' ever again. Dawn Schiff has to be one of the most annoying characters I've ever read. However, there was enough there that made me keep listening and I liked the narrator.

More than half way (when I had already lost interest) the twist was finally revealed. It was a good twist but it was too late in the game. I listened to the remainder with mild enjoyment and the epilogue was good but, overall, an average thriller.

Oh my girl Freida, I’m so sad to give this a 3 star review because I usually love all of your books! It was a page turner but only because I was waiting for the insane twist that usually comes in her books that makes me normally give her 5 stars but sadly, I didn’t think this one was that big. The book definitely has some interesting characters in it and I liked reading multiple POVs and one story told through emails. Thank you NetGalley for giving me this arc to check out by my favorite author. Still a huge Freida fan and will always read her work!!

Classic Freida. If you love her books you'll love this one. It took me a bit to get into this one but once I did I was hooked. Normally I'm not a fan of the back and forth timeliness but it worked well in this story.

The narrator was again amazing. Her accent for men is phenomenal... especially the Boston accent. Only issue I had is the voice of the two main female characters were too similar. Pay close attention at the beginning and it will be easier to follow.

I received a free copy of the audiobook for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio eArc The Coworker. This is a hard review to write because I actually don't know how I feel about this book. I love most of Freida McFadden's books.
All the characters are absolutely awful. I had a different perspective in the beginning of the book but at the end they were all insufferable. I am going to read the book when it comes out to see if I feel different from the audiobook. I am giving her the benefit of the doubt and will give her a normal rating but I may come back to change it after the book is released.

For the first half of the book, I couldn't decide if Natalie "did it", or not. I thought Natalie was a dumb dumb and kept making stupid decisions; but once I accepted there would be no story if someone acted prudently I was fine.

I didn't believe the romantic relationship between Ms. Turtle and the brother at all. I would absolutely believe they were close like family but not lovers. There is nothing in the story that sold their relationship to me, even Natalie's comments about him crying and whatnot.

I did like the "twist" as to who the dead woman was; I hadn't thought for a second it would be Tara.

I hated the "happy ending" and am frustrated that there was no explanation about what happened with the police/case. Shouldn't they have been in trouble for wasting police resources?! Also, a 6-month law school graduate would NOT be a defense attorney in a murder case, especially not in cities like Boston. First, you have to take and pass the bar exam. Even if you set that time requirement aside, still NO ONE with 6-months practice will be a public defender for such a big case. Early "ADAs" do DUIs and other more minor crimes to get court room experience. This is especially true in big cities where getting a job as a public defender is hard and it takes YEARS before you can be assigned a case.

Lastly it drove me BONKERS that so much time was spent on Ms. Turtle's "OCD" I think her white sandwich was described 9x however it wasn't even WHITE! White bread has a brown end and turkey isn't white either. It's beige or pink. Even if the turkey was "white enough" for her, shouldn't she but cutting the ends off of the bread?

Overall, it was fine. Good pacing. I stayed interested despite these annoyances. The narrators really made it. I wouldn't have been able to paper-read this.

I gave this book a rating of three stars. My biggest problem in the book was that I didn’t have anyone to root for because things just felt off the entire time. Also, if I never hear the word ‘turtle’ again, it will be too soon.
