Dawn Schiff and Natalie Farrell are two coworkers who couldn't be more different. Natalie is beautiful, popular, and says all the right things. Dawn couldn't care less about looks, prefers turtles over humans, and has no friends. When Dawn goes missing and Natalie becomes a suspect a wild game of cat and mouse ensues that will have you wondering- just who is the predator and who is the prey....

Another plot-twisty, fast-paced thrill ride from Queen Freida! I love that Freida keeps you guessing the entire time, her books are honestly like being on a rollercoaster blindfolded. Just when you think you might possibly have a clue what's going on- WOW!!! there's that unexpected drop! I also really enjoyed the narration of this audiobook, Alyson Krawchuk was amazing! Thank you so much NetGalley and Dreamscape media for this ALC!!!

As per usual Freida always gets me hooked from the very beginning. I listened to the audiobook all in one day with no interruptions. The suspense and thrill of the whole story had me on my toes. Even when some parts were predictable it didn’t lessen the impact of the plot twists. 4.5 out of 5 stars.

The Coworker 👩🏼‍💻👩🏽‍💻
I can honestly say that Frieda has never disappointed me, but this book just didn’t feel like a true Freida book! The twists were lackluster and the ending gave me no closure and was unrealistic. Natalie was extremely annoying to me and made some dumb decisions/commentary.

And I also couldn’t stand the women’s voice that was doing the audiobook. I know this has nothing to do with Freida or the book itself, but it was extremely distracting.

I love all of McFadden’s books but this one just didn’t shock me or satisfy me like her others have.

Thanks to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media and Freida McFadden for allowing me to listen to The Coworker before its August 28 release date.

When I got the email what I was approved for this ARC I literally gasped! I love all the Freida books I’ve read so far and this one did not disappoint. I love all the twists and turns and the whodunit vibes. The narrator was great and so easy to listen to!

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and Freida McFadden for providing me with this audio copy in exchange for my honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Freida Is the GOAT. When I got this ARC I literally screamed bc I love Freida books and this one did not disappoint. I read (listened) to it in one sitting because I had to know the ending and my thoughts kept changing. Thank you so much for the opportunity to get this book early! I would DEFINITELY recommend this book.

Well, this sucked me in and didn't let go. This is the first book of Freida's I have read and won't be my last. I was immediately taken with this story and did not want to stop until I found out all of the answers. Natalie finds out her co worker Dawn is missing and a whole series of events happens in alternating timelines leading us to think Natalie might have had something to do with it. I don't want to say Natalie is an unreliable narrator, but she isn't reliable and has her own secrets. There are so many ups and downs and twists all over this book, some I loved, some I was a bit angry with, but I digress. This book kept me rapt and on the edge of my seat. I loved the narration, she did such a great job bringing this story to life. 4.5 stars
Thank you to Dreamscape, Freida McFadden and Netgalley for an early audio copy.

Can describing a book as unhinged be a good thing? If so, this is it.

First off, I loved the narrator. My first impression was that I really enjoyed the narrator and then about 1/3 of the way into the book I forgot if it was just a single narrator or multiple because she did an excellent job of giving a voice/tone to different characters.

It took me just a couple chapters to really get invested in the story. This is the second novel that I've listed to from Frieda McFadden and honestly, she does such a great job of making me need to know how it ends. I love a good mystery/thriller/whodunnit and this delivered. I was a fan of the dual timeline as it gave little clues to try and guess at the ending leading up to the finale. The ending felt very complete with everything tied up and purposefully not ambiguous.

Definitely a few trigger warnings on this one that was hard for me to stomach at times, but overall did not turn me off to the book or the story and how it unfolded.

Another fantastic Freida McFadden book. I loved this thriller and the workplace vibe. The emails, the characters, the plot. Everything fell into place beautifully. Please check out my reviews on insta & tiktok. I’m a huge Freida fan and her books are always fast paced with no fluff.

This is the first Freida McFadden book I’ve read. The writing was strong, and I hoped for a perfect thriller, but the story was just fine. The toxic workplace with a who dun it was interesting as a premise, but it was a slow one that dragged on a bit. The reveals at the end were great, but getting there was a struggle. I will read the future and previous works of Freida McFadden.

Loved the narrator!

1.5 ✩

If audiobook availability hadn't been an option, this book would probably end up being a dnf for me. It's puzzling why authors sometimes pen narratives spanning nearly 300 pages where seemingly nothing of consequence unfolds. I won't give away any plot points, but I must say it didn't leave the impact the author intended; at times, it came across as rather juvenile and overly desperate to gain seriousness.
Moreover, the plot was strikingly predictable, resembling the pattern in all her other works that I've read, and even the attempt at a different perspective in part two couldn't deceive me, as it was familiar territory.

The characters lacked intrigue and failed to captivate my interest. Furthermore, the portrayal of autism was woefully inadequate, with no acknowledgment of the character's autism except for mocking her as "weird" which was disheartening.

The incessant use of the word "turtle" throughout the book became incredibly grating. I genuinely wish I had a physical copy, just to satisfy my curiosity about how many times this word was mentioned.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

4⭐️ This was my first Freida McFadden book I have read/listened to and I didn’t know what to expect but I kept hearing good things from the author. Overall, I really did enjoy this book and it definitely kept me guessing. This is about two a girl named Dawn and how one day she goes missing and her coworker Natalie notices and sees that something happened. Things start to unravel as you get more into the story. I kept having ideas of what happened and one part I did get right and then I thought that was it but there is so much more to this story. I keep getting shocked by the plot twists that kept happening until the end. This book is two part and the first part has a past/present timeline where the past was in emails that were leading up to the present which I found interesting and I liked that. I thought I knew the characters until I realized I knew nothing at all which made this book very entertaining. Overall, this was a great introduction into the author for me and definitely recommend this.

This is one of the better McFadden books i have ever read! The plot was solid, and kept me wanting more. Anyone that has ever had a coworker is going to relate to this book. At times, I was certain I knew”whodunnit” but, i was wrong each and every time!

In reference to the narrator of the audiobook- I did not enjoy the reading of the emails “to: from: subject: re…..” got quite old and a bit monotonous. But I did enjoy the cadence and the narrators natural voice.

I am not sure if it was the narrator, sound quality, plot line or a combination of all three, but this book did not work for me at all. I liked the setting, but found the overall story to be on the sillier side. I also really struggled with the audio narration, and unfortunately, that was the only format I had.

I will say, I’m an outlier on this and have previously really enjoyed this authors work, particularly her Housemaid series. If you are on the fence (and have already read that series) give this a try and see if you feel differently.

Thank you Poised Pen for the gifted ALC in exchange for my honest review.

The Coworker
Thriller
Suspense
Secrets
Twists
This was a fast paced thriller read from two points of view which really helped build the suspense! I thought all of the characters were great and they all had their place in the story! Part one did a great job building the mystery. The twists and turns really pick up in part two of the book! When you think your catching on boom another twist! Near the end there were a couple twists that surprised me but also helped to close out the story!
I had the audio version of this book and the narrator Alyson Krawchuck did an awesome job!
Thanks to net galley, dreamscape media , and Frieda McFadden for this Audio Arc!

"Two women. An office filled with secrets. One terrible crime that can't be taken back."
Dawn Schiff recently started as an accountant at Vixed, a nutritional supplement company. Everyone thinks Dawn is strange; she never says the right thing, has no friends, and follows a strict routine. When Dawn isn't at her desk at exactly 8:45am as she usually is, Natalie, the beautiful and popular top sales rep, is shocked. Everything changes when she answers her phone to an anonymous caller with an unsettling message. Dawn wasn't just an awkward outsider, someone close was targeting her. Now, Natalie has been pulled into someone's twisted game. Who hated Dawn Schiff enough to kill her and why is Natalie being pulled into it?
Freida sure did deliver yet again! I've been so excited to read this story since I've heard it was coming and my interest was really peaked when Sheldon's shenanigans started in her Facebook group. Everytime I felt like I had it all figured out, something would prove me wrong. I didn't want to stop reading because I just had to know what was going to happen next! The narrator, Alyson Krawchuk, did a phenomenal job. She did so well voicing each character, that I forgot it wasn't a full cast of narrators. If you're a thriller fan, you've got to check this one out! I'm already dying to know what Freida has in store for us next.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I would like to begin by saying that Frieda McFadden is one of the easiest authors to read. If you start any of her books, there is no point where you will wish to take a break or stop. I have read 3 of her books so far, and I have read them all in one sitting.

I loved how fast paced the coworker was, and how much fun it was watching not so great characters get into trouble.

Also, I predicted the whole plot twist by being delirium with fever. It is a funny story, I predicted the overall plot twist at about 20-25% in, and never looked back. Immediately after I predicted the twist something happened that would have made me scratch off my prediction, but my brain was too muddled up to think after I had come to a decision. So, when the twist is revealed, I was like ‘Yeah, of course’. But later on, the other information that would have clashed with my prediction was discussed and I was like ‘Oh…I didn’t even remember a very huge part of the plot that was being brought up again and again until just now’. So, in short, I predicted the twist by being sick and having brain fog.

Now on the negatives. The detectives were so incompetent, that it came off as sloppy writing. I could have done a better and thorough investigation than them. Also, just like in Ward D, I find the mental health representation to be problematic. Dawn, who seemed like a person on spectrum (but it was never disclosed), was so one dimensional that her only personality trait was liking turtles. Also, the portrayal of mental health could be seen as downright harmful, because it plays into a factually proven false stigma surrounding the community, just like in Ward D.

In typical Frieda McFadden fashion this book takes you on a journey! It is told in dual timeline POV between current time Natalie and past time Dawn who has gone missing. The narration in the audio version was a little dull at times although it is somewhat in person to reflect the odd personality of the MC but the story still kept pace and keeps you on your toes. I will a little less excited about the plot twists at the end as I felt like they had already been done before but they were still done well. All in all it was entertaining and enjoyable.

The coworker is about a lady (Dawn) who has a very high interest in turtles and talks to anyone who will listen about it. Her work mate Natalie thinks that Dawn is crazy annoying and is pretty harmless. Natalie's past will come to haunt her. I enjoyed listening to this audio book. Freida has become a favourite author of mine. This book doesn't disappoint. It has the usual twists and turns and mystery behind a strong storyline. I liked how we got to hear the POV from both Dawn and Natalie. It was an easy book to follow and was entertaining and enjoyable. Thank you for allowing me to have an ARC.

This is my first McFadden book and, certainly, not to be my last. What an intriguing plot, to put it mildly.

Dawn Schiff is a strange bird She is a conscientious worker alongside the other employees of Vixed, a vitamin supplement company. Then, one day, she disappears and the mystery begins.

The book has all the superior elements of a thriller. It has those twists and turns that are so unexpected. When I thought I had it all figured out, I realized that I was so wrong. The many dimensional personalities and their wickedness all contributed to an enigmatic and cryptic conclusion. Can't wait for her next one!

The Coworker by Freida McFadden is a trip! I didn't want to put it down. Dawn is targeted at work for being odd, and one day she doesn't show up. Between her email correspondence with a close friend, the blood and fingerprints in her home, and some missed important meetings...it looks bad for her workplace bully. Just when it starts to feel a little predictable, we get some good plot twists that keep the action moving and make the book unputdownable.

This is the third Freida McFadden book I've read this year; I'm officially becoming a huge fan and have requested several other of her books from the library.

A sincere thanks to NetGalley for early access to this thriller.
