I usually love Freida’s work, to the point that I consider her one of my favorite authors. But The Coworker just didn’t do it for me. I couldn’t connect with the characters and found myself to not really be interested in the story. The ending had some good twists, but overall, this book missed the mark for me as the audience. Of course, being a Freida fan, I would always recommend her books to others, and I’m sure so many others will love this one as it’s written in Freida’s usual witty way. I look forward to future work by this author and will continue to work on reading her back log!

I listened to this as an audio and was not fully engrossed by the performance of the narrator, mostly when in the POV of Dawn.

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and Freida McFadden for providing me with this gifted audio copy in exchange for my honest review.

Shocking, mind blowing and honestly just brilliant.

Two women. An office filled with secrets. One terrible crime that can’t be taken back.

When one day Dawn doesn’t show up to work at time, her coworker Natalie goes to her house after a weird phone call that changes everything…

Wow I am truly blown away by this novel! I really thought that I knew what was going on but no, I definitely was wrong.
I loved how the book was written, it was in dual POV which was amazing it definitely made the book interesting for sure! I never knew who to believe and trust!

I am so grateful to be able to read this as an AudioARC, it needless to say how much I loved it! Freida McFadden is a truly talented and wonderful author and I’m so glad that I discovered her books, they’re so addictive, I need more books like this!

I recommend reading this book a thousand percent if you want an incredible thriller with a shocking plot twist!

Another absolutely addicting thriller by this author. Just when you figure out what is happening she throws a twist with another twist. I love this author because I never know how it will end.

Thank you netgalley and publisher for allowing me to read and review this title. All opinions are my own.

And of course Freida McFadden knocks it totally out of the park again! She is definitely one of my go authors. This book was dark and creepy and I loved it! Thoroughly enjoyed the narration. Lots of secrets, lies and stunning reveals. Characters were perfect! I felt like I was actually in the story.
Highly recommend
Thank you NetGalley, Freida McFadden and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This was my introductory book to Freida McFadden after reading and hearing rave reviews about her other work. This will not be my last.

How well do you know your coworkers?

Being a people pleaser can be super hard because everyone is so different, has different opinions and work ethic. You may rethink your work relationships and potentially your friendships after reading this.

This was such a fast-paced thriller with short enough chapters that you will definitely fall victim to the “one more chapter” pull. There were a couple twists that added additional layers and complexity to the story and also makes you wonder is the end really the end?

I really liked the alternating perspectives and timelines because it competes for your loyalty to a character and makes you question that trustworthiness along the way. Just when you think you understand someone…think again!

Thank you so much to the author, Freida McFadden, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for an audiobook arc of The Coworker in exchange for my review!

Although this wasn't Freida's best work, it was still entertaining and kept me guessing. I enjoyed the book & love how quick & easy her books are to read (without being easy to solve).

I’m a Freida Reader and love all her books but this one I kinda had figured out mainly towards the end of the book! It was a good read tho!

Enjoyed this audiobook. I’ve listened to the narrator before and she’s easy to listen to. I’m a big fan of this author for her twists, for the first time, I was able to figure out a few of the twists….but not all! I also enjoy Freida’s humor scattered throughout the book. She’s a go-to author for me!
Thanks NetGalley 😉

Unfortunately, I really struggled with this audio book. Perhaps it is better as a print book? I could not finish it and found the narrator annoying. I do not blame her, I think it is the story. I feel bad writing this, but, this is why publishers look for early reviews of their product. Sorry, just not for me. The writing and dialog were a bit simplistic and it did not keep my interest.

The Coworker by Freida McFadden and narrated by Alyson Krawchuk. I liked the narrator as she kept me engaged in the story because sometimes my mind wanders when listening to other audiobooks, but this was not the case with this narrator and this story.

Two women. An office filled with secrets. One terrible crime that can't be taken back. Dawn Schiff is strange. At least, everyone thinks so at Vixed, the nutritional supplement company where Dawn works as an accountant. She never says the right thing. She has no friends. And she is always at her desk at precisely 8:45 a.m. So when Dawn doesn't show up to the office one morning, her coworker Natalie Farrell is surprised. Then she receives an unsettling, anonymous phone call that changes everything.

The Coworker is a tense thriller that explores the dark ways the past can echo through the present with deadly consequences.

I actually gasped at some of the events and scenes. Dawn's monochromatic color eating was interesting. There is an ironic comment from Caleb in one scene, but I can't say too much as it will give away plot details.

I am a fan of Freida McFadden and her books, as there is always a twist you don't see coming but one you anticipate!

I would recommend this book and this author. A 4.75 out of 5 for me (rounded to 5).

Whoa!!!!! I don't even know where to start!! This book was insane!! Definitely another masterpiece for Freida!! There was plot twist after plot twist. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, something else happened.

Dawn and Natalie are coworkers. One morning Dawn does not show up for work, and Natalie because concerned. Dawn is a very peculiar individual, and is always very punctual.
Natalie decides to go by Dawn's house and check on her, but when she arrives, she finds the unexpected.

Thank you so much @netgalley and @dreamscape_media for the opportunity to for this audio arc in exchange for my honest opinion. I loved the narrator, she was very good at telling the story, and made me feel like I was there.

Oh my goodness.

I've been a fan of Freida for a while and have been so excited for this release. I was a bit worried I'd not manage to get into an audiobook like I do a book, but it was a whole new experience.

Dawn works for a popular company called Vixed. Her coworker - Natalie, works in the cubicle next to her.
Natalie worries when Dawn fails to turn up to work one Monday morning, after they all know so well how punctual Dawn is - they even know the times she nips to the loo! Dawn's cubicle phone rings, and the phonecall startles Natalie and her concern grows deeper.
Natalie heads to Dawn's after work, and what she finds will change her life.

By chapter 44 I thought I had cracked it, but by the time I was halfway through chapter 45, I was completely wrong!
If you're a fan of Freida, or psychological thrillers with a twist you'll *really* never expect - you must read or listen to this book. It's probably my favourite book of hers yet!

I have been hearing so much about this author. Patrons at the library who have TikTok have been requesting her books. This book wasn’t what I was expecting but in a good way. I’m not sure how the experience of reading the book would differ from listening to it, but I do think I would have enjoyed it more. The narrator’s tone made it seem not as dark as I thought it should have. Overall kept me listening. Thank you! Rounded up from 3.5 stars.

The Coworker
by Freida McFadden
Narrated by Alyson Krawchuk
Pub Date: 29 Aug 2023
Dreamscape Media, Hollywood Upstairs Press
General Fiction (Adult) | Mystery & Thrillers
Audiobook
Rating: 4/5

Freida McFadden's The Coworker audiobook is a twisty tale of friendship and loyalty. Freida's rich and vivid writing style captures the characters' emotions and makes for an intriguing experience. Narrated by Alyson Krawchuk, her performance brings the story to life and keeps listeners on the edge of their seats. However, occasionally her voice inflection felt a bit inconsistent and sporadic. The fact that it was mentioned did not distract me from the story, but I did take note of it.

Synopsis:
Dawn Schiff is a responsible employee. Despite being organized and precise, she is also socially awkward. As a result, Natalie Farrell, Dawn's gorgeous and popular coworker, immediately notices something is amiss when Dawn fails to show up for work. As Natalie searches for Dawn, she discovers that the police have identified her as the number one suspect in the disappearance. Natalie is determined to uncover the truth and find out what secrets Dawn is hiding - and where she is.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for sharing this incredible audiobook with me. In keeping with Frieda McFadden's style, the story is well-written, suspenseful and full of plot twists.

Bullying and revenge are taken to new level. The story plods along until it unexpectedly twists and turns. WoW!……everything changes! I didn’t see the ending coming.
I listened to the audiobook version of The Coworker. I found the narration disappointing. The voice was unevenly paced and choppy.
Thank You to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media, for the opportunity to listen to the audiobook version of this this ARC.

2.75 - this was a book of borrowed tropes and ideas, a last ditch attempt to sway the reader’s mind about the characters, and an excessive use of the word turtle that made me completely feral. It wasn’t god awful, it was quick at unfolding information and good at showing the different sides of the characters as the book continued but the end was disappointing, expected and nothing new in my opinion, which sucks because about 30% of the way through I really thought this would change my mind about the author and her (largely) unedited diction but I guess not

Really enjoyed this audiobook and thought the narrator did a fabulous job of telling a great story!
I was taken by surprise by quite a few twists in this book and thought the overall outcome was really good!

You can set your watch by Dawn, who always arrives to her desk at Vixed at 8:45 am sharp. She’s scheduled, precise, and incredibly socially awkward. So when Dawn doesn’t show up to work, her beautiful and popular coworker Natalie instantly knows something is wrong. No one else in the office seems concerned, but Natalie reports Dawn’s disappearance to the police and starts to do her own investigating… only to find herself as the number one suspect.

I know can usually count on Freida for an entertaining popcorn thriller, but I’m sorry to say this one missed the mark for me. While it was a fast and easy read, some of the twists were predictable and the characters felt one-dimensional and cliched, like the popular mean girl or the boss who has an affair with a subordinate. But it’s the portrayal of Dawn that really sticks in my craw. It’s heavily implied (though never explicitly addressed) that Dawn is on the autism spectrum, with her inability to recognize social cues and incessant fixation about turtles. I adore a sensitively portrayed and nuanced neurodivergent character, but Dawn comes across as an unpleasant stereotype, making for a very discomfiting reading experience independent of the bullying Dawn endures. The audiobook narrator did nothing to dispel this notion, voicing Dawn in a very stilted, almost robotic manner. Her narration of Natalie as a vapid, narcissistic mean girl is spot-on though!

Even though this one wasn’t for me, it already has many positive reviews, and Freida’s fans are sure to enjoy her newest release! Many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for providing me an advance listening copy of this book.

So this has been favorite of her work by far!! Listened to audio and the narrator does an amazing job as well!!

Told in part 1 & 2. Part one is mainly Natalie’s point of view, she is concerned about her coworker who is never late and then answers a mysterious phone call on Dawns desk that sounds like Dawn saying Help me. Also some emails that are between dawn and her friend Mia that are painting a completely different picture of Natalie. Part two can’t really say much without spoilers so not going to give anything away.

Dawn is quirky, unique and several other characteristics that you won’t see coming.

Definitely character flaws I didn’t predict.

Loved the narration and her different voice for dawn, helped with the quirky characterization even more.

Thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape for my advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.

Well, well, well, what do we have here? A completely entertaining, gripping, and shocking read by Freida McFadden. I was completely entertained and enjoyed the characters, their exploits, their personalities, and motivations. They are mainly an unlikeable bunch and I enjoyed watching one of them view herself as the entitled victim the entire book.

Dawn Schiff (is she on the spectrum?) is a turtle loving accountant who works in an office filled with secrets. She arrives at 8:45 a.m. every day without fail. Dawn is viewed as awkward by her co-workers. Thankfully she can correspond with a friend in her spare time as she doesn't have any friends in the office. Natalie Farrell is the golden girl of the office. She is the top sales rep and out for number one!

Oh, what tangled webs we weave....

When Dawn, who is never late, does not show up for work one morning, it sets off alarms. Then Natalie receives a startling phone call....and we are off to the races! Natalie finds herself in some seriously hot water and for once, can't sweet talk herself out of trouble.

This was an enjoyable cat-and-mouse that had me wanting more. I know when I read a Freida McFadden book that I am going to be entertained and shocked. I had a guess where things were going but I enjoyed how McFadden took me there while throwing in some twists along the way. Plus, I learned a thing or two about turtles.

I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narrator.
