Another amazing, deliciously gothic Regency romance from Hannah Linder! I absolutely loved this book! It’s a forbidden romance, hidden identity, inspirational mystery that kept me guessing until the end!

William Kensley’s life is in danger. Someone at Rosenleigh Manor wants him dead. As he searches for answers, he learns a shocking truth about his origins from a beloved servant right before he’s murdered. As he goes in search of his past, he meets the beautiful Isabella Gresham & they form a fast friendship.

Isabella loves the easy, delightful teasing relationship she has with William & can’t help compare him with her boorish suitor Lord Livingstone. Their escapades by the sea & sweet friendship are threatened when William learns the truth about his past. Penniless & destitute William gives up all hope of a relationship with Isabella. But, when she disappears & her life is threatened, he may be the only one who can save her.

Full of twists & turns, this riveting Dickens-like romance kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved William! In his search for his identity, his faith was tested & he had to rebuild his trust in God. I loved his fortitude & strength. I loved the delightful, sweet relationship he had with Isabella.

The action-packed, thrilling mystery definitely kept me guessing. There were several times I had to reframe William’s & Isabella’s relationship yet I loved the constancy of their love. There were definitely a lot of surprises which made this so hard to put down.

Highly recommend to gothic romance & inspirational mystery fans! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.

CW: murder, some violence & mild peril, kissing only

This is the first book I’ve read by Hannah Linder. She’s a talented writer and has woven a tale with plenty of mystery and plot twists!

The story centers on William and Isabella, whom society sees as unequals and thereby unsuitable as a match. At one point William even believes Isabella to be his half-sister. They are a love match but with complications galore. The story is well-written and kept me involved.

I received this book from the publisher via net galley in exchange for an honest review. Four stars.

I found the characters engaging and the author does do a great job of painting the scene. The vibes of gothic regency were beautifully portrayed. My only issue was the bouncing back and forth between POV. I had to re-read certain pages to know whom was speaking. So I would say that is more of me as a reader getting confused rather than an issue with prose or plotting

Excellent book!
I consider Hannah Linder to be a “new”author but you would never know it by the quality of her writing.
These characters were wonderful and the story had so many unexpected twists and turns.

I always enjoy and appreciate a good Regency/Gothic story with a dash of mystery and intrigue and suspense thrown in! And this one definitely delivered all of those. This is my first book by Hannah Linder. I've eyed her books for a while now and have loved all of the covers. They are what initially caught my eye for her books. Then hearing friends talk about her books and their love of them drew me in to read this one! I was happy I did and look forward to reading more of her books!

William finds himself in trouble and not very many people he can turn to. As he reaches out to one person, he instead encounters that person's daughter Isabella. Without being able to disclose much to her, the two set out on a friendship that will eventually meet its end when revelations are made. And yet, there's something that continues to pull William and Isabella together.

The suspense and mystery and reveals throughout the book had me turning pages quickly. And I was about 50/50 surprised for the big twist. But I kind of felt it as I was reading. Did you figure it out or was it a complete shock to you? (Of course you can't answer that until you read the book!)

I loved the ups and downs and the relationships that were developed or exposed throughout this book. Great read for October, or really anytime! Enjoy!!!

Content: Clean. Some moments of mild peril. Some talk of illegitimacy but nothing graphic. A child born out of wedlock.

I received a copy from the publisher, Barbour Publishing, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

hannah linder knows how to write a gripping mystery and swoony romance. i was completely enthralled by the prologue and swept away by the forbidden romance. i loved the sweetness of it and the shared interests between william and isabella. how they became such good friends, but then became so much more to each other. and then the mystery — i was kept guessing from beginning to end. i definitely never saw the truths coming about a certain character who shall remain nameless. i love being caught off guard that way! another beautiful story by hannah linder — i can’t wait for more of her stories!!

thank you to barbour books and austen prose for the gifted book. my thoughts are my own.

This story is different than most Regencies that I have read. Yes, there are still dual perspectives, but there is a depth to the story that makes it feel more substantiative. It asks heavy questions about the nature of love. It also addresses issues of trust.

William and Isabella are the dueling perspectives. William is raised by an aunt that uses him for blackmail and is abusive. William learns secrets about himself that change everything, while Isabella is in society and being pursued by someone that she feels is more dangerous than she knows, but her father is pushing for the match.

This story is a lot of things and evokes a lot of emotion. It is a read that I didn't want to put down and the story was exquisitely written. The chemistry between characters was strong and undeniable. The plot was fresh, yet felt organic. The conflicts were suspenseful and very real. It was an escape that I would love to read again. Hannah Linder has done a lovely job with this story. The relationships are complex and add to the story. And the twist that I did not fully see coming.

I received an early copy from the publisher through NetGalley and this is my honest review.

English gentleman William Kensley leaves Rosenleigh Manor, fearing for his life. When the only man he trusts is murdered, when is just about to reveal the truth of his past, William begins to uncover the secrets behind his birth. Soon he finds all that he has believed to be true, ripped away from him. William is left penniless and alone, except for the friendship and love of Isabella Gresham. Believing himself to be unworthy of Isabella but unable to part from her, William does everything he can to save her, fearing her life is at risk.
Another beautifully written novel by Hannah Linder. She writes with grace and style, pulling together a story, tinged with sadness from the very first chapter. The two main characters are carefully constructed, particularly that of William, who is uncertain of the person behind the threats to his life. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing how the relationship between William and Isabella grows and their devotion to each other. There is plenty of mystery and action to make this such an entertaining read. 5+ stars!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book pulled me right in with the sadness and an air of mystery. William has inherited an estate and lives with his aunt and cousin. They are both more than a little hateful towards William. Eventually William has to flee even though he doesn't want to. He has made a promise and to keep it he must leave and begin a search for answers. He encounters Isabella while on his search. His search will change both of their lives in so many ways.
William must endure confusion, trials, hatred, and even attempts on his life before all is revealed. And it's not what he thought..

I love this author's writing style, so engrossing and unforgettable.

"Garden of the Midnights" is a beautifully written, original, heartbreaking, and heartwarming story written by Hannah Linder. The setting, locations, and clothing are very well-researched and are described with wonderful attention to detail and a vividness that helps the reader to clearly see what is happening in the story. The characters are three-dimensional along with personalities, thoughts, emotions, hopes, fears, and personal difficulties of their own. This is a story about love, friendship, family, forgiveness, hope, and faith. The speed of the plot is perfect, the author's writing style is smooth, polished, and sparkling with beauty as always. I've read every book written by Hannah Linder and love each one. This author's books are always 5 star reads and absolute gems! Hannah Linder continues to be a remarkably talented, devoted, and original voice in both fiction and non-fiction. I cannot recommend this book highly enough! "Garden of the Midnights" is definitely a must read. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future. Thank you very much to Austenprose PR, Hannah Linder, Barbour Books, and NetGalley for providing me with the wonderful opportunity of being a part of this book tour and for providing me with a digital copy to read and review honestly.

Garden of the Midnights is yet another moody and gothic style Regency novel penned by Hannah Linder. Secrets of the past are unearthed and dangers become reality as the story unfolds for Linder weaves a story of looking for belonging among a backdrop of lies, blackmail and secrecy. There are so many twists as the plot unfolds that it would absolutely spoil the mystery of this gothic tale to provide too many details. These characters had such a journey to find their happiness and it definitely kept me guessing until the end!

Garden of the Midnights by Hannah Linder is a delightful regency romance with some mystery. Isabella Gresham has lived a very delightful life with a doting family. William Kensley has had privilege as a Gentleman, but has not had a loving family. Now he is trying to find out who wants him dead, his identity, and is running to find out.

This story gripped me from the beginning and I stayed up way to late trying to see how it would end. Isabella and William are interesting and characters who I enjoyed watching change and grow in the story. The regency era details were amazing and I loved the varied settings. There were many twists and turns in the story which made this story so interesting and unique compared to others in the genre.

The themes of identify, redemption, forgiveness, and family were beautiful and made this a thoughtful and beautiful story. The faith elements were so well done and not preachy or like an afterthought.
This is beautiful redemptive story that drew me in and held my attention to the very end. This is a page turner that will touch your heart deeply. I highly recommend!

I was given a copy by the publisher and not required to write a review.

This story takes you on a roller coaster and you won't want to get off.
Hannah does an amazing job making you feel as if you are reading a book made in the regency era this novel feels very Bronte. I love the feeling of danger lurking around every corner. I gasped out loud a few times. I had to force myself to put the book down to sleep some nights. It was definitely a page turner.
There are so many twist and turns and not everything is as it seems you want to know how it's all going to turn out the whole book.
It was so good I absolutely love Hannah's writing and story telling she really puts you in the era and feel all that the characters feel.
Definitely recommend.

How do you forgive the unforgivable?
William struggles to find the father he thought was dead while an unknown assailant attempts to kill him. His only advocate is Isabella who nurses him back to health. But she’s the daughter of a viscount and he’s a pauper. Their class differences forbid their growing love for each other.
As the story unfolds, William experiences one setback after another. He ponders the words of a destitute woman, “Just have to forgive dem. Even if you got to do it over and over again . . . just have to forgive dem.” But how can he forgive the unforgivable?
Hannah Linder kept me turning the pages in this regency romantic suspense filled with timeless lessons of love and the redemption only achieved through forgiveness.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Hannah Linder for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Garden of the Midnights coming out October 1, 2023. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Some accidents are not a matter of chance. They are caused by the actions of others. As English gentleman William Kensley becomes aware of the sinister acts at Rosenleigh, he pleads for truth from the only man he can rely on—until that man is murdered.

As the secrets turn into scandal, William’s world unravels—leaving him penniless and alone. His only comfort is in the consistent love of Isabella Gresham, but even that has been threatened. When a hidden foe arises from their acquaintances and endangers Isabella’s life, will William be willing to rescue her? And even if he saves Isabella from her captors, will he still have to give her up?

I’ve read Beneath His Silence by this author and loved it. I was eager to check out another book by her because I love the genre. This book wasn’t quite as exciting for me. I was a little confused by the possible siblings plot. I’m not a fan of all that. I do enjoy her books aren’t as fluffy as most regency books. The characters experience a bit more suffering and the themes are a little more gothic. But the romance wasn’t as strong as I’d hoped and things seemed to work out quickly. I’d definitely check out other books by this author though.

I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys regency historical fiction!

Another beautifully crafted, intensely touching Gothic style Regency novel by master storyteller Hannah Linder! This book has it all—romance, mystery, danger, and more! Advancing the story are complex characters you come to care about and root for. Major heart wrenching plot twists and life changing revelations in an authentic Regency setting kept me immersed in the story. I especially enjoyed the delightful scenes at the seashore which lighten the intensity of the story. I love how Isabella and William learn valuable life lessons from each other as their forbidden romantic relationship develops. The theme of forgiveness, permeating the story, is inspiring. I totally enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

Hannah Linder is the queen of gothic, regency, romance novels and this book features all of these elements. It is the riches to rags story of William Kensley. His childhood was less than perfect at Rosenleigh Manor. His mother died when he was young, and his father was unknown. He grew up at the feet of a demanding, unkind aunt and a spoiled cousin. At the death of one of his few friends on the estate, he learns the name of his father, Edward Gresham. He goes to confront who he believes is his father and learns that he may have a sister, Isabella Gresham. This is the basis of the story; however, it doesn’t end there, and his life continues a downward spiral from there. I would caution the reader that this story almost has four separate acts and in the third “act” the story becomes a bit violent towards Isabella. It may not be appropriate for younger readers.

My thanks to the author and publisher for an early copy of this book. The opinions here are entirely my own.
