Another excellent gothic romance from Hannah Linder! William was such a great main character. The way he handled his adversity and lack of a stellar backstory was enchanting to read about and endeared me to him. Isabella was a classic daughter of privledge, but she bore her father's indiscretion well and learned how to win him over in the end.

Here are some aspects that I loved:
- Forbidden Love
- Surprise character backstories
- An unexpected act of kindness
- Horse rides
- An enchanting first kiss
- A dramatic resuce
- Time by the sea

All in all it was a 5 star book for me. I can't wait to see what Hannah Linder writes next! Thank you to the publisher, NetGalley, and Austenprose for the advance copy of this book. A positive review was not required.

Wow what a great story! William Kensley has just discovered that his Aunt has been lying to him his whole life. He is told that his father is alive and given his name and where to go. When he arrives he meets Isabella Gresham, who is the daughter of his father. Though her father wants nothing to do with William, Isabella can’t abandon him and they develop a friendship. There are also some villains going around too. And as to not give away any spoilers, I will stop right there.

This story is wonderfully written. We get the point of views of both William and Isabella. With that we also get some backstory memories. This book has some mysterious and suspenseful moments and yes even some surprising plot twists. I really loved both main characters. There are great Christian elements throughout. I also loved the romance part of the story. The author is a great story teller. Overall I really enjoy it and I definitely recommend!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Content: murder, shooting, blood (lightly graphic), non sexual abuse of women, unwanted kisses, abuse of man (alluded to)

I was not prepared for how amazing this book was! Hannah has definitely out done herself with this one, not only is it absolutely the most stunningly beautiful cover I think I’ve ever seen, but the story inside was just as captivating!

When William Kensley inherits the family estate he quickly realizes that he must be vigilant in order to preserve his very own life. It seems that someone is opposed to his new role as master of Rosenleigh Manor. When the looming threat takes the life of his dear friend, he heeds the warning spoke from the dying man’s lips and flees in search of answers, and the father whose grave he has visited the entirety of his life.

As the mystery unfolds, William learns many things, some joyful, some painful, and some shocking. He discovers a hostile, vitriolic father and an engaging, ebullient sister, Isabella. When his dream of a new found family is crushed, he returns home to another devastating blow.

I must say as I delved into this story I was worried as to how this could be resolved in a way that didn’t crush my soul. William was such a wonderful character who endured life shattering revelations and gut wrenching trials. He was a gentleman, even when he was truly no longer a gentleman. He was humble, kind, compassionate, hardworking. Oh how my heart ached for him, and all he endured and lost. Yet he remained true to his self and maintained his integrity. His friendship with Isabella was pure and uplifting and euphoric. Those who truly knew him were the better for it.

This was beautifully written and executed gothic romance for the ages. A riches to rags story of hurt and hope, loss and love, perseverance and pain. Get ready for your heart to be put through the emotional wringer. A page turner from the get-go. You’ll not want to stop reading and you won’t want it to end.

Thank you NetGalley for my advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

Sweetly written, suspenseful, but I didn’t quite connect (and the short scenes rather than chapter-long forays into the characters’ perspectives probably contributed).

It is, indeed, a worthy existence when one of your favourite authors makes you feel a multitude while reading their book.
I hope you all are here for yet another unforgettable book by the one and only: Miss Hannah Linder!
I have to admit, there is just something special about Miss Linder's books! Perhaps it's the romance, because, let me tell you, in this book, Isabella and William were the most adorable pair! There are many cute moments between them, especially while "doing sunshine" and "feeling the seashore".
Even better, could it be the mystery? Garden of the Midnights just kept me there from the beginning to the very end! If you are not big fans of gothic regency romance, then know, that's exactly what I'm here for! (I think that at this point, I'm on my way of becoming Hannah's fangirl for life;)) There are lots of plot twists that will make your heart beat faster (literally!). I'm also the biggest sucker for all the drama in this book. I even found myself weeping at times (and I love when that happens!)

So, if you did not get it yet, this book is totally worth your time and tears!

I really enjoyed this book! William and Isabella were so sweet with each other and it was neat to see how they both grew throughout the story. The plot was suspenseful and kept me guessing too. A must read for anyone who enjoys historical, suspenseful romance books!

This was another beautiful and emotionally charged novel from Hannah Linder!

William Kensley finds himself in a completely different sort of lifestyle than the one he was raised in after discovering his life is in danger. On a search to find the father he never knew he finds an unlikely friendship in the wealthy Isabella Gresham.

This is a story of forgiveness, redemption, and faith. It’s all together mysterious, shocking, romantic, and heart wrenching. The story line kept me hooked. It seemed like there was danger at every turn, but also tender, emotional moments as well! I really enjoyed how William clung to his faith in God even in the worst times. If you love regency romances with a gothic vibe, with a strong emphasis on faith, I really recommend this one.

This book has literally SO MANY plot twists it is certain if you start it in the evening before bed you will not get any sleep you have been warned haha. I so enjoyed this story, especially all of the details of horseback riding on the beach, elaborate estates, balls and countryside. The love was never passionate and I am fine with that. The ending was necessary as the book got heavy at times so tying it altogether at the end brought this book back to a 5 star as there were times I was wanting to take a star off. Still, a book that will linger with me well past closing the pages and one I anticipate reading again. Thank you netgalley for allowing me to read, the opinion expressed is entirely my own.

Secrets from the past, forbidden love, greed and murder, this book had me skipping sleep and reading way into the night. I just could not put the book down! The twists and turns of events kept me guessing as to what might happen next.

Isabella and William were both well written, flawed characters who we see their reactions to life’s circumstances. Through their difficulties they grow and become better people. The theme of forgiveness that runs throughout the story added depth to the plot and to the characters. Some chose to let the go of the past and its hurts, while others let it destroy them.

Things to love about this book:
walks on the beach
star gazing
enjoying the small things
“doing sunshine”
faith
vile villains
love wins

I have read all of Hannah Linder’s fictional works and each one is fabulous. It is difficult to wait for the next book to be published, and I almost wish that I had learned about her books a few years into the future so I could binge read them. :) I highly recommend this book for mature readers who like historical tales, Charles Dickens-like characters, and seeing characters wrestle with their faith and have it tested and proven.

I received a complimentary copy of the book. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

CW: assault, childhood abuse, suicide

'Whoever wanted him eliminated was finished playing games. It no longer mattered if his death was deemed an accident. They simply wanted him dead.'

Wowee! This book is an experience...as are all of Hannah Linder's books.

I loved the gothic vibe she writes in her books. It adds something new and exciting to a historical fiction. I love the Christian elements. I love the innate goodness of characters. I love the character arcs and enlightenment of characters as they are exposed to things outside of their control. I love the fortitude and strength these characters possess.

This book had a fair amount of violence in it. There are murders in various forms that take place throughout this book as well as physical and emotional abuse that I want to make sure any reader that may have a trigger from those things goes into it knowing what to expect.

This book is a book of struggle and overcoming all odds. To stand up because of character and not because of wealth or possessions. I loved the theme and am always wow'd by the beautiful way this author writes!

If you're looking for a fall gothic read, this would be a good one to look into!

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

Content: murder by guns and swords, physical/emotional abuse, lies/secrecy, several mentions of children born out of wedlock, suspense, loss of everything, character growth, forbidden romance, kisses.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 (4.5)
Steam Level: 🔥 (kissing only)
Trigger Warning: murder, brief mentions of death during childbirth, and one other that is a spoiler (message me for details)

William Kensley's life is in danger. When he's forced to run from the only home he's known in order to stay safe, he seeks out the father he thought had died years ago. As William gets the answers he desperately needs, he also makes the acquaintance of Isabella Gresham. Isabella doesn't believe in love but she does strike up a friendship with William and finds herself drawn to him. Little does she know that her own life is at risk. Can these two open their hearts and protect each other from those who threaten their futures?

This was another delightful historical romance mixed with suspense from Hannah Linder! I was immediately drawn in by William's story and invested in the mystery surrounding the threats against his life. When he met Isabella, I was very curious as to how their lives would be connected. Things slowed down just a bit in the middle, but then the action and suspense ramped up in the last 30%. I loved how I wasn't able to predict what would happen and only had slight suspicions along the way. There were so many twists and turns keeping me guessing! The romance was also done so well, and I adored the chemistry between our two main characters. They go on quite the journey to get their happily ever after. And the Christian elements scattered throughout portrayed the characters' faith and struggles so well. I can't wait for what Hannah Linder writes next!

Thank you Netgalley and Barbour Publishing for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I was surprised to see another sibling storyline and again really disappointed in the lack of romantic tension, just like with the secon book from Linder. I've come to realize this just isn't something to expect from this author perhaps, which is fine! Just read these knowing that these are more suspense than romance. There was quite a bit of violence in this last book too, and frankly it was sort of depressing for a longgg stretch of the story. That coupled with the lack of romance just made it not land well for me. I think the storytelling has potential, but maybe the author is still working out how to make her readers *feel* when they turn that last page. CW: sexual assault, kidnapping, child abuse (remembered) ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I just love regency romance books. This was just the perfect little pick for me. This was light and airy and completely engaging. I didn't want the story to end.

I just reviewed Garden of the Midnights by Hannah Linder. #GardenoftheMidnights #NetGalley

This is an excellent tale! Hannah Linder has such a way with words that I am able to see the scenes play out in my mind. One feels all the glory, pain, mystery, and shock while reading about William and Isabella. This story just kept developing into moments of "What?!" and there were several times I was surprised by a turn of events.

William is one of my favorite lead characters I've read this year. He is honorable and constantly strives to be a better person. He grabs life and experiences it to the fullest and takes along those he cares for to "do sunshine." I think that is why when he suffers heartbreak, the reader feels it deeply too.

One of the most touching quotes from the book, "She was better for having known him. She was destroyed for having loved him." *All the feels*

"Garden of the Midnights" deserves a 10 ⭐ rating! This was my first time reading one of Hannah Linder's books, and it won't be the last. This captivating story weaves together elements of mystery, romance, and suspense in a way that keeps the reader utterly engrossed from beginning to end.

What truly sets this novel apart is its richly drawn characters, particularly the endearing Isabella Gresham and courageous William Kensley. The deep bond between William and Isabella, their shared laughter, and their daring adventures are heartwarming and beautifully portrayed. As the story unfolds and their world crumbles around them, their unwavering love becomes the emotional anchor of the narrative.

The suspenseful twists and turns of the plot keep you on the edge of your seat. I literally could not wait to pick the story up each day and read the next chapter. This book has left a lasting impression upon me.

In summary, "The Garden of the Midnights" is a beautifully written and masterfully crafted novel that offers a rich tapestry of emotions and a storyline. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a compelling and unforgettable read.

Once again, Hannah Linder’s writing transported me back to 1800s England. This was soo good! I really could not put it down.

I was invested from the very beginning of the story. Hannah Linder’s writing is just beautiful and makes me want to keep reading! There were so many beautiful lines!

I loved Isabella and William so much, both together and separately. Hannah Linder truly writes compelling characters so well.
Even the side characters I found interesting which honestly most of the time side characters don’t capture my attention very much. Each one of them came alive for me. None of the characters were one-dimensional. Even the bad guys had depth.

The romance was so good! Isabella and William were wonderful.
“Make certain you do sunshine and feel the seashore, hmm?”
That line *sighs* ❤️

I loved the faith content as well. I teared up quite a few times.

In conclusion, Garden of Midnights confirmed that Hannah Linder is a favorite author of mine! This book was so well-written. I felt all the emotions along with the characters as they came alive for me. It’s one that made me smile and tear up. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
If you love regency books with plenty of action, beautiful writing, compelling characters, faith, and a sweet romance, I definitely recommend this one!

I have enjoyed Hannah Linder's previous books. So I was excited to get her latest novel as an ebook from NetGalley to review.

The story centers on the main characters; Isabella Gresham and William Kinsley. Isabella is the only child of a rich English gentleman who has been given every advantage in life. When a handsome, young man shows up claiming to be her half brother, her world turns upside-down.

William has spend his entire life thinking he was the heir to a large estate but finds out his life has been a complete lie. After trying to connect with his father and half-sister, he discovers his origins are much humbler. Now that they know they are not related, William and Isabella spend lots of time together and grow to care for each other. Meanwhile, Isabella has another suitor who will not take no for an answer. When she is kidnapped, William is the only one with enough courage to rescue her.

Though I did enjoy the book very much, I think my favorite by this author is still Beneath His Silence. Garden of the Midnights has all the makings of a good novel, clean romance, dancing, mystery, and danger.

William's aunt reminded me very much of the aunt in Jane Eyre. She is frightfully mean. Purposefully making William's life a nightmare with physical and verbal abuse. Despite this, William does not grow up hard and bitter. He just wants to love and be loved.

I would recommend any fans of regency fiction to read Garden of the Midnights!

This one has been fantastic!
I found myself not wanting to put the book down and find every moment I could to read.

I love that it’s a bit of a mystery and danger, mixed with regency!
This is the perfect regency romance to curl up with for the fall season!

I love historical fiction but never would have guessed I’d become a fan of regency time period stories. Hannah Linder has changed that for me with her wonderful writing and poignant stories. The Garden of the Midnights was no exception. The main characters Isabella and William are rich and full of depth. The story is fast paced, not predictable, emotional, compelling, mysterious and suspenseful. I really couldn’t have enjoyed it more.
Thank you to Net Galley, Barbour Publishing and the author for the opportunity to read for my honest review.
