Alexander McCall Smith in the Discreet Charm of the Big Bad Wolf follows Detective Varg in the Swedish Department of Sensitive Crimes as he negotiates personal relations with his girlfriend and deaf dog and tries to find a stolen house. Smith tells stories with sly charm and human interest. Detective Varg knows something is wonky about the stolen house story and is able with help to find it. What happened? Meanwhile the department has to reassign a staff member to another department and no one wants to go. Great humorous read.

I adore Alexander McCall Smith could listen to his characters pontificate all day long. Every one of his series are so charming and you really grow to love the characters. Pretty sure I had a smile on my face the whole time I read this. I am loving this new series. Thank you so much to Pantheon and to Net Galley for this ARC.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC
I was delighted to be able to read and review a new Alexander McCall Smith book - I like the Ulf books almost as much as I like the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency books.
In this instalment, Ulf faces some political issues at work, some emotional issues at home, and an investigation into a stolen house.
I enjoy the balance of the multiple plot lines in this books, and everything was resolved well by the end (some of the previous books have been a bit uneven).
What I enjoy most about this author is his gentle but interesting writing, and the way he looks at ideas through his characters.
Highly recommend for a relaxing and uplifting vacation read.
