I was drawn to this book because of its colorful front cover and adorable illustrations. "What Does Little Crocodile Say At the Birthday Party?" is a sweet, simple story about a little crocodile on the day of his birthday party. The author focuses on the sounds and feelings throughout Little Crocodile's exciting day and the pictures in this story add the perfect touch! I think this would be a wonderful book to read to young children in a music class or early elementary classroom. The students, whether they be toddlers or early elementary age, could use instruments and/or movements to accompany the sound effects throughout the story. Looking forward to sharing this story with teachers and getting my hands on a copy in 2024!

"Fanks" to Eva Montanari, Penguin Random House Canada, Tundra Books and #NetGalley for the ARC and opportunity to read and review this adorable children's book!

This book was adorable. My son loved saying the sound effects and all the colorful drawings. I like how this book describes a party from start to finish. It would be a great way to teach a child what to expect at a birthday party if they have never been!

Such a fun book that can be used in schools everywhere. Crocodile is getting ready for the birthday party and all the sounds and feels that go along. All is well until a balloon goes "pops" and Croc goes"waaaaaah!". Many opportunities for teachers and music teachers to use instruments to help recreate each step of the book.

Simple text, simple illustrations that all come together to celebrate big!

My school students will really enjoy this one.

A sweet children's book that has a lovely text to picture ration and a good amount of visual interest for children. The text is simple and sweet, demonstrating all the things children need to know about for birthday parties, especially if they've never been to one before. (Including the scary things like balloons popping).

Very sweet.

This is a fun easy book. Perfect read for babies, toddlers, or emerging readers who are looking for a couple words on each page. This book is charming from start to end. While the story it self is simplistic, the art work creates a beautiful story that you can use to delve into the story further with kids if they wanted to. I also love utilizing different sounds in the book. Perfect if you have little one who wants to “read” with you.
Thank you so much to Penguin Random House Canada, Tundra Books, and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book.

This picture book is one that encourages participation. Each page invites an interactive response from the reader and the listener. They can join in one what each thing “says” and we loved that!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is a great book for some of our youngest readers! Sweet illustrations paired with the excitement, sounds, and feelings of a birthday party make this a lovely picture book. There are not many words per page, and it feels like a nice choice for children beginning to talk as it could encourage the completion of a sentence if the adult reader chose to pause and allow the little one to fill in the ending.

It is Little Crocodile's birthday! They are three years old and ready to celebrate with friends. This book is filled with birthday joy and - as always - a few burst balloons along the way. If you have a toddler in your life that will soon be having a birthday party - this would be a fun book to share with them. Since little ones can chime in with the noises, this should also work well for a toddler or preschool story time. Everyone likes blowing out candles!
I enjoyed the illustrations - they are delightful! And the little crocodile friend who says, "Fanks!" Also when our protagonist looks in the mirror at the beginning of the book.
Thank you to Net Galley and Penguin Random House Canada for an e-galley.

This book was difficult to follow as an adult; I would not recommend it to any child. It was a cute idea, but the execution fell short.

A little Crocodile is preparing to enjoy his birthday party with his family and friends. "What Does Little Crocodile Say at the Birthday Party?" is filled with colorful illustrations and onomatopoeia technique which is a delightful read for toddlers.

Cute book for young children. I enjoyed reading it with my 4 year old who enjoyed the pictures very much! We enjoyed discussing the sounds of the party and the cute animals that came to the little crocodile’s party. This would be a great book to read in a classroom and then have the children draw their own version of animals at the party and what one of them would “say”..The illustrations are especially well done and enjoyable. We had a good time discussing what each “child” might be thinking or feeling from their expression and body language in the illustration. Well done!

The book was cute! Very easy read for kids. My little guy loved it! He loves alligators/crocodiles and anything with teeth!

My only issue was the way it showed up on kindle. It split the pages in half. So the bottom half of one page was on the left side and the top half of the next page was on the right side. It was difficult to see the pictures in full.

Fun story for little friends to 'read' along with you. The illustrations are so fun, the crayon look will appeal to all.

The sound effects are realistic and a great introduction to Onomatopoeia.

It's a great addition to the "Little Crocodile" series, and will be well loved.

I love the simplicity of the artwork. The color scheme is perfect for young readers and provides a range of colors, shapes, types of animals, and plainly written and easy-to-read script presented in a comfortable sensory-friendly way.

The little crocodile is relatable and it’s easy experience his birthday party through his senses as he takes in everything going on on the day of his birthday party.

This story would make a wonderful gift for two to five year olds.

Such a cute book! The author tied in everything you do at a party before during and after. Having each animal make the noise that goes with the action. Great little story for kids who are learning about what happens with actions.

Such a cute story with adorable illustrations! The story spins a fresh way of looking at a birthday party by way of showing all the different sounds that are happening during one.
“Fanks” to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the ARC!

Eva Montanari's illustrations convey the excitement and emotions of a little one experiencing a birthday party. The simple text format lends the book to a read-aloud with room for discussion of the pictures and making text to self connections.

The repetitive text feels a bit forced towards the end as the party winds down. This is relieved on the last page with a more natural text structure.

All opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the eARC.
