This book was heartbreaking but had me crying happy tears at the end. I love everything by Sally Hepworth but this one was more heart wrenching than the others. I loved the characters and the way their stories played out. 5 stars!

This was my first book from this author and I will definitely be reading more! This was a great book. Not going to lie it was a little rough reading the abuse scenes with the children but it really painted a picture of why the girls ended up the way they did years later. The plot twists weren’t shocking - but what saved this and was the wow factor was they ending. I love endings like this and I hope the ending doesn’t change. The ending is what bumped this from a 3.5 star review to a 4 star review.
The characters were great. I felt their stories were well thought out and I loved their happy endings - especially Norah. I related to each of them in small ways.
Pacing was great. Love chapters with cliff hangers.

Ohhh how i love Sally's books. They are so catchy, and edge of my seat reading! I wish they could all be movies.

This one was so good. While it was a little hard to take some of the "before" chapters about the raising of the girls, I found myself captivated by the three women and anxious to learn what would happen to them. I found myself routing for them and giving them grace even after some of their not so favorable behavior based on what I learned about them as their story unfolded.
I appreciated the twists and turns and the way the author unfolded the story, with twists and surprises you aren't expecting. Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen or be revealed, I was wrong, even up until the last minute.
Thank you to NetGalley & St. Martin's Press for the ability to read and review this book.

This book had me hooked—I stayed up way too late reading and finished it all in one day! The pacing, the twists… I just couldn’t stop turning the pages. If you enjoy authors like Freida McFadden, this one’s definitely worth checking out. I’m already looking forward to reading more from her!

After a bit of a reading drought, I decided that a fast pace thriller was a good way to bring my reading back to life, and I was right! This hit the spot. Adult sisters (foster sisters) are called into an investigation when human bones are discovered underneath the foster home they grew up in. The story is told through multiple timelines, from when they were kids living with Ms. Fairchild, their hot and cold caretaker, and present day as they tried to make sense of their past. I finished this in a day, and loved the Australia setting.

Sally Hepworth does it again! What an epic generational story of trauma and life mixed in with a mystery that is unfolded with layered mixed timeline storytelling.

This was my first Sally Hepworth book and I will be back for more! This book was less of a thriller and more of a psychological mystery. Its not fast paced but there's enough pulling you along to keep you invested. It was dual time period which kept pieces of the puzzle flowing for the reader. The end of the book picks up with twists and a shocking ending. Overall, a fun read and I will definitely pick up more of Sally Hepworth's books!

What an insane crazy twist filled story! This one is definitely one of the craziest books she has written.
Those poor girls living in that house with the crazy woman, their own individual stories and the trauma from from their foster mom that they have to learn to live with.
I did love the relationship between the three girls and their intersecting adult relationships. All the twists and secrets that came out along with the happy endings for the girls. This book was one I could not put down. Thank you for the are Netgalley and publishers-book was just amazing!

Another great, suspenseful book from Sally Hepworth. A little tricky to keep some characters straight but it kept me guessing.

Wow! This novel is a truly gripping read, blending mystery with deep emotional insight. It centers on three adult sisters—Jessica, Norah, and Alicia—who are forced to revisit their traumatic past growing up in a cruel foster home when human remains are discovered at their former address. As the police investigate, the sisters must confront the secrets they've kept from each other and the world, challenging their memories and their loyalty. It's a powerful exploration of trauma, sisterhood, and the dark secrets that linger

This was such a wonderful experience. I thought I had figured out the ending but I was incorrect. Love that Sally Hepworth keeps me so engrossed in my reading. Can’t wait for her next release.

This was fantastic mystery/thriller. One of the best I’ve read in a while. Going back and forth between two different time lines can sometimes be annoying to read, but both timelines kept me intrigued the entire time. I loved the sisters. Each one coped with their childhood in a different way, and they were each so flawed but so relatable. I loved their relationships with each other. I’m so glad we had each of their perspectives or else I don’t think I would have cared for them as much, individually or as a group. The best part about this story was that I didn’t guess the ending.

I loved this! I will reread it once it's published! Thank you NetGalley for this ARC! I really needed a book to get me out of a rut and this was amazing.

You can never go wrong with Sally Hepworth. This book showed the secrets kept between sisters which I can 100% relate to . Growing up the main characters were rescued from a horrible situation by a loving foster mother and told by everyone how lucky they were . But, were their lives what they seemed ? Were they truly lucky? You must read this amazing book to find out.
Thank you Net Galley for this amazing book !

I love Sally Hepworth’s books! Her writing is fun and the stories are so dramatic. I think people think they’re thrillers, but I certainly disagree. Mystery is a better word. This one was pretty heavy, but I certainly enjoyed it. Knowing the triggers might be helpful, but otherwise I’d go in not really knowing what to expect. All I knew was that Sally Hepworth wrote it and I wanted to read it. Gripping and twisty for sure!

Three foster sisters, once bound by their shared past, are pulled back together when a body is found under their old foster home. It’s domestic suspense with a heart — part mystery, part emotional exploration of sisterhood and trauma. Engaging and empathetic.

Fast paced book. I always enjoy this author and her writing. This books follows three foster sisters and what they endured at the hands of their foster mother. Years later a body is discovered under the house they stayed and everyone is wondering who could it be and how did it get there? Definitely a quick read and the twist at the end was perfect! 👌

4.5⭐️
This book is so well done... it's an absolutely twisted and screwed-up book, with trauma and horrors that are so well written you're left feeling all the rage.
The story follows three foster sisters who grew up together under the roof of an evil woman as they're called back to town when human remains are found under the home. The narration allows us to see glimpses of the past, the current investigation, and therapy sessions. This jumping around kept the book moving and had me hanging on every word. I wanted to know all the details and figure out all the pieces to this story. I was invested and engaged from page one.
Plus, that ending was *chefs kiss* level good 👨🍳💋
Absolutely loved this book.
It was challenging and pushed limits while staying true to the reality of trauma in the care system and how it can follow you into adulthood. As someone who spent 15 years working with youth in care, I felt this entire book very deeply on so many levels.
⚠️
Please be aware it is a tough read and may be triggering for anyone touched by child abuse and/or the seedy underbelly of the care system.
