TO CHALLENGE HEAVEN is an exciting science fiction adventure featuring earth survivors battling invading aliens to protect and preserve what is left of earths civilization. Thank you NetGalley for the advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

My thanks to NetGalley for making an eARC of this book available to me.

What's gone on before: In Book One the Earth is invaded by aliens, the initial strikes killing a large percentage of the population. Resistance ensues; aliens counterstrike; more resistance; then vampires (yes, VAMPIRES) show up to save the day. (Don't let the vampires keep you from reading these books, as they play a relatively minor, although important, role in the events in these books. There's even something of an explanation as to their existence in the second book.)

Book Two is mostly about Earth recovering, improving upon captured alien technology to help themselves along, and sending an expedition to another star/world in an attempt to find potential allies to help with the coming battle with The Hegemony, the alien organization/empire that caused the invasion of Earth to take place.

And now we're on to this book. This time around we are invading the home world of the alien race that almost conquered the Earth. And then we go to yet another world to help a less developed alien race to get out from under the thumb of yet another of the Hegemony. All of this with the anticipation of eventually bringing the battle to the main powers behind the Hegemony, which I'm sure we'll get to eventually.

In the meantime, these books give us plenty of humans-as-underdogs, lots of battles, lots of Weber's trademark descriptions of spaceships and weapons and tactics, plus fascinating insight into how various alien civilizations might work.
