There's lots of Christmas in this short novella. The Scottish village and folklore was terrific.

I just don't understand how anyone would just hop a plane when they get a letter about inheriting a house without getting all the logistics and paperwork in order first. There wouldn't be a story if she didn't go to Scotland but still...

Thank you to Flying Cactus and NetGalley for the advance reader copy. I am required to disclose this in my review.

Highlands Christmas - Wishes Come True by Amy Quick Parrish is a holiday novella set mostly in Scotland.

I was so looking forward to reading this book, because I love a good Christmas romance, unfortunately it was not as good as I was expecting.

This had such a great premise, the heroine takes off to Scotland after being dumped by her husband, only to continue finding herself in the company of his divorce lawyer.

In all fairness, it was a quick and entertaining read. There were quite a few scenes that made me laugh, so it wasn’t all bad.

Spoilers ahead.

My main issue was the way Melissa was portrayed. Initially, I felt bad for her and was cheering her on after her husband suddenly announced that he wanted a divorce.

I did question her sanity a bit when she packed up and left for Scotland with no real plan whatsoever. And that feeling only multiplied once she arrived there.

Who in their right mind moves into a house, and starts renovating it before completing paperwork to transfer ownership? Or at the very least, talking to the people who are supposed to be handling the transfer?

I feel sorry for Colin if these two end up together, because Melissa apparently has no common sense. Maybe that’s why her husband ditched her. And now I wonder if all the signs were there that he was cheating, and she just ignored them.

If you are really good at suspending disbelief, then this book may be for you.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC

I was a little disappointed by Highlands Christmas. Because it is so short, some of the plot lines felt rushed and underdeveloped. The flow of the book was a bit jarring as well. Things tend to happen suddenly without much rhyme or reason. The idea was cute and I was hoping for a fun, Christmas read to get me in the festive spirit, but was unfortunately that is not what I got.

“and when a handsome man in a kilt beckons, you follow…”

It was a very rainy week and the temperature outside is unbelievably cold, even for a mediterranean country. despite everything, I was looking forward to a warm and fluffy Christmas romance because it is the season, duh.

Melissa, the female main character, was blessed to inherit a magnificent estate in the Highlands after receiving life-altering news from her husband, or rather, ex-husband. She relocated from Boston to Europe in search of a better future and met her husband's divorce attorney who's accessorily her new hot Highlands neighbor-Melissa, the female main character, was blessed to inherit a magnificent estate in the Highlands after receiving life-altering news from her husband, or rather, ex-husband. to sum it up succinctly and concisely, this book was both easy and quick, and it worked perfectly as a plate cleanser with the perfect dose of Scottish folklore.

This is a great fit for someone who enjoys the escapism and brevity of a Hallmark holiday movie. The novella is a super quick read full of characters that have unlimited vacation or income and can just pick up and relocate to start their life over. Readers need to have the ability to embrace the impractical things and not shout at their e-reader "Why did not you contact the lawyers and bank before jumping on a plane and moving into a house on another continent?" So, on one hand, totally ridiculous and implausible, but on the other, a fun winter frolic in Scotland. I think this is written with enough heart and character to bring joy to someone who wants a quick little escape.
Thanks so much for the ARC!

This was a cute holiday story! I enjoyed the cast of characters who supported Melissa in her journey to start fresh in an idyllic new place and as she learns to grab life and make what she wants out of it.

Highlands Christmas: Wishes Come True was a fun and quick romantic holiday read that takes you to Scotland for Christmas. I thought all the characters were great and the chemistry between Colin and Melissa was perfect. What I really enjoyed though was reading about the Scottish Christmas traditions and the Gaelic dialogue throughout the story.. Very fun!

An ARC of this novella was provided to me by NetGalley and Flying Cactus Books, with thanks.

Interior designer Melissa Mackenzie prepares her usual sumptuous and exquisitely decorated Thanksgiving dinner for her husband Dave and a number of their ‘couple friends.’ The only single guest is a last-minute addition that Dave professes to have invited out of sheer pity, a young, lonely and lovely colleague named Samantha. She brings a gift for her hosts of questionable, if not tongue-biting taste, a hideous life size squirrel holding a bowl for nuts. Melissa, a genuinely sweet and giving woman, overlooks the awfulness of the gift and does her utmost trying to make Samantha feel welcome. She goes so far as to display the awkward gift at centre table.

The gift is an omen for the awkward moments about to come. Dave abruptly, even brutally, declares that he was simply waiting for the party to end to announce his plans to leave with Samantha, effective immediately. Suddenly Melissa sees the squirrel as the cruel joke it was meant to be. But there is nothing to laugh about in her husband’s decree. He is serious about wanting a divorce.

Yet another sucker-punch comes her way when she takes a call from Colin MacGregor, a Scottish lawyer hired by Dave to handle their split, proving that the affair was not, as she’d hoped, a passing infatuation.

In this darkest of life moment’s, a stroke, or two, of the blinding good luck that makes a romance novel, casts some Christmas light on the beleaguered Melissa. She is almost literally handed a Scottish property inherited from a third cousin once removed that she has never met.

Taking a bold step forward, she decides to go to Scotland to see for herself, thinking to ‘stage’ the property and sell quickly. Lucky lightning strikes twice, however, when the handsome Colin happens to be on her flight to Edinburgh. Neither plans to stay long in Scotland.

Considering the adversarial position in which the divorce places them, there has to be a lot of seasonal magic happening for anything but the most formal of relations to develop. But Christmas is for wishes, and the Highland setting seems among the best in the world for them.

Written with humour, compassion, and irony, this novella makes for a cheering seasonal read, speaking of love, family, and destiny in the happiest sense of the word.

This is a darling gem of a book, as cozy and wrapping a plaid around your shoulders while reading next to a fire and sipping a hot cocoa. The atmosphere and pacing of the story were just perfect and I loved meeting all the characters. Would absolutely recommend this book to any one who wants a cozy Christmas time story set in Scotland. It’s delightful

A very quick but cute romance! I cuold really feel the Christmas spirit. However, the book was a bit short, so everything happened really fast, especially the romance! I did not really see the 2 protagnists get close.... It all happened too fast and out of nowhere but it was cute.

It's less like a book, but more like a guide on What to Do and Eat at Christmas in Scotland.

When you are told that you inherited something, shouldn't you go through the legalities to claim ownership?

While this was a super easy reading, it was somewhere predictable. I feel like the first 3/4 very good. I would have preferred a more creative ending. Maybe the sequel will bring it…..

Christmas is upon us, and what better way to start getting excited then by reading Christmas stories.

‘Highlands Christmas’ opens with Melissa and her horrible husband Dave. She seems oblivious to the foulness that is him, she only seems to see the joy of the season. Dave reveals himself quite quickly in the first chapter and then it’s off to Scotland for an adventure and to wash the scum of Dave off of her. Enter a Scottish lawyer hottie and you’ve got your story.

Highlands Christmas, is a novella, which I didn’t realize. I have terrible luck with them unless they are apart of a larger series of books that I’ve already submerged myself in. I just found it very hard to get into the story. My favorite part is the squirrel scene, I had a good laugh.

This was a quick, really cute read that gets your in the Christmas spirit with all of the festivities of the holiday season. I really enjoyed the small town charm and atmosphere in Scotland. I really enjoyed all of the characters, and thought Melissa and Colin were really cute together. I wish the characters and plot were a little more developed, but given the length of 128 pages, it was still enjoyable. This was a cute feel-good holiday romance and I would recommend it. I plan to read the next book, Highlands New Year, and look forward to seeing what’s next for Melissa and Colin.

A quick holiday novella. I caught on to where it was going pretty quickly but I did enjoy the romance part of the book. It wasn’t overbearing and I look forward to next book to seeing what happens with this couple.

Such a feel-good holiday read! First of all, I love anything set in the Highlands. Then you add in dream of inheriting a Scottish house, and I’m in. It threw me a little that the MMC was named Colin McGregor, so close to Connor McGregor who is less than likable in real life. That’s a small issue in the long run though!

3* I did not expected such a short story, I both liked it and felt a little disappointed.

What I liked about this book is the truly Christmassy, wintery, Scottish fairytale plot, true to her word the author delivered just the right atmosphere. She built in so little pages a sense of a little community and the magic surrounding it.
The premise is also good, sad but plausible... I liked how Melissa and Colin keep catching each other.
I totally loved the setting and the secondary characters: Colin sister, father, and Jingles.

What I didn't like: out of the blue from total stranger, not only the main character, which is heartbroken and very self-concious, suddenly is referred as beautiful, but the spark she is feeling toward Colin seems magically reciprocated...
While I might love an easy romance it's like the plot is missing a crucial chapter in the middle.

I think this book could have been so much more, it's still enjoyable, but as I wrote in the beginning left me with bitterness in my mouth.

Thank you NetGalley and Flying cactus for providing this book as an Arc in exchange of an honest review.

When Melissa finds her husband is leaving her at Christmas, she also finds she has inherited a home in Scotland from a long lost relative……Will this end the way we think it will?
Super cute little Christmas novella set in Scotland. Of course it had all the whimsy and magic that would happen on a Hallmark movie. We all know in real life these things would never happen but they do give us all the warm feelings in this book.
I heartily recommend this book for a Happy Christmas read!
