I had a hard time keeping up being engaged in the story. I don’t think there is one likable person in this book and i couldn’t see something like this realistically happen. The story was fast paced so it’s easy to follow and there was the feeling that i wanted to know how it all ended. I’m sure that this books speaks to many thriller readers, it just wasn’t more than an ok read for me.

Jack and Melissa have adopted a baby girl but nine months later there happy ever after is shattered. The characters in this are well portrayed and make it a suspenseful read!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

Jack and Melissa adopted a baby girl Angelica. The issue is, her birth father(Garrett) never signed away his rights for the child, and his father, a judge, wants to reclaim her.
What follows is a pretty far fetched tale (in my opinion). Everything and anything that can go wrong does. Mind games with Garrett.
I wasn’t sold on any of the main characters. Jack and z Melissa didn’t seem to have any fight in them. Cost was probably my favourite character, but he had so many flaws.
The three weeks is told roughly day by day. The story is pretty slow until the last day or two. That’s when the book came into its own.
Worth a read but not my favourite.

There's a lot of potential in this story and it starts with a bang then it becomes full of stereotypes and the judge made me think about Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. To be honest more than one character made me think about Roger Rabbit.
Entertaining, a bit too predictable.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I have enjoyed quite a few books by this author and the start of this story was no exception. However as the plot unfolded I found I really didn’t like the way the story was headed with some very dark elements that made me reluctant to keep reading. I did continue though but just not my cup of tea.

A bit of a different read.
An unusual story line full of suspense and a couple in a heart-wrenching situation.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
Thought provoking stuff.

You both crave to complete your family with a baby, it’s never happening so you adopt, your lives are complete and happiness is with a capital H……
And then you find out the father of your child never actually signed the papers and his Dad wants the child, and he’s a Federal Judge and he is ( and to the letter of the law ) giving you three weeksmand then you have to hand her over
What follows is a gathering storm of a story, hectic, full and chaotic with boundless energy that does not stop, and it was good, frantically good with a host of peculiar and in some cases rotten as they come characters, at times very American in Its dialogue, not a criticism, it’s an American author…and an author I immediately went to look up all previous books
This book hit a lot of personal notes and I was invested more than even I usually am when reading
Brilliant

Nine months after bringing their adopted baby home, Jack and Melissa's plans of parenthood are dealt a potentially fatal blow. After years spent longing for a child, they are distraught to hear the news that their daughter may now be taken away.

Baby Angelina's father is a teenager who never agreed to her adoption. Now he wants her back. And to make matters worse, the young man proves he may have seriously problematic tendencies. What he also has, beyond a doubt, is the support of his powerful father, who is a judge.

But why do they want Angelina? As Jack and Melissa discover, their reasons may be far from obvious.

Already heartbroken and determined not to give up their precious child without a fight - especially when they cannot even be assured of her wellbeing with her biological family - Jack and Melissa do the unthinkable...

I have liked CJ Box's books in the past, and was excited to read this one. While the premise here is interesting, the execution of the idea did not quite live up to expectations.

The baddies in Angelina's family seemed a little stereotypical, while her adoptive family is almost perfect in every way. And the storyline was somewhat predictable.

On the plus side, the plot is fast-paced and quite engaging. The story was an easy enough read, if not this writer's best.
