I'm just starting my journey with audiobooks in English - it's an intriguing and new experience, that I can say was a good one thanks to Out of the Dawn by P.C. Cast, which is a known author in my country for her solo titles like Partholon.
This is book 2 in her newest series and trust me it must be read to follow what is going on, and here happened A LOT since the beginning. We saw the destruction of our world, humanity, and deadly mist, and how a group of females emerged from this stronger and more powerful than ever. Book 1 ended in not a happy manner so this one will start on a serious note.
I like how the characters were developing here and becoming more understanding of the unknown (like Karen - as she got on my nerves before, but in the end I liked her). Survivors will always grow stronger and better at resolving their problems - especially in harsh circumstances. The one thing that was not of my liking what the attack on Religion in it - which could be avoided as it was not needed for the plot.

I received an eARC for my honest opinion.

After the bombing and after the death of a friend, you go on adventure with Mercury and the group of survivors. They are now trying to understand their new gifts that they received from the green mist and rebuild their new world. However, they now have a deal with someone who is not human anymore and wants to take everything away from them. What will be the outcome of everything, will they be able to live in their ossias in peace, or will they have to keep fighting for the new life they want to live?

I enjoyed the second book a lot, I think for me it wasn’t the plot but the characters that I fell in love with. I mean the plot was really great and I loved all the pagan themes throughout it. I loved the positive girl power in the book, and how the women in the group came up with the rules for the new world. I thought it was really interesting to see all the new developments that all the females keep getting when they meet the green mist again. For me this was the perfect fantasy/witchy/pagan vibes but also had a really good point that we need to take care of our earth again.

I loved that the character development in this book was so huge, for me it was Karen that took the biggest leap of them all and I just adore the new Karen. I think all the characters had some development as well, they became more accepting and understanding of the new changes and some were even able to heal themselves again. If I had to pick a favorite character though it would have to be Mercury and Stella. I just love the vibes that those women are putting off and I could see myself becoming best friends with them.

I was given the audio to review, and I thought the narrator did a fantastic job with all the emotions and describing the new world. I really was able to picture what was happening while listening to the book.
I cannot wait to see what P.C. Cast will come out next.

I want to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to review this book.

I haven't really read much of PC more adult content. But I did tremendously enjoy this one by her. I love the dystopian style world in it and the main female was the best. I have found from this that PC is one of my favorite writers regardless of what her work is. This book lead me on so many different twist and turns and I love every minute

I loved the first book in this series and this book was one of my most anticipated books of the year.
The series returns with the teachers and Gemma as they start focusing on building what the new world looks like according to them. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel this book held the same fervor as the first book. I enjoyed Gemma’s part of the story, but overall this book didn’t do anything to promote the series.

Listening to the audiobook was great as Lorelei King did a spectacular job.

Mercury can hardly remember life before the green mist. While being deadly to men who breathed it in, it gave new life to the women who did. The green mist gave each member of her newfound family superhuman abilities. Mercury has heightened physical powers, Stella has a sixth sense about the future, Imani has a connection to Earth, Karen has a connection to spirits, and Gemma becomes a healer. The group creates a small community in the Painted Hills. Mercury knows something or someone is hunting them, something that wants to rule the world and sees her as a threat.

Out of the Dawn is creative and entertaining just like the first book. I received this as an audiobook ARC and the narrator did a fantastic job keeping my focus and attention. I really enjoyed the heroine aspect of the book and the group banning together to save the world. I enjoyed the story of survival and building a new community in a new world that is their new reality. There was a repetitiveness to the writing though that wasn't my favorite. Overall, it was enjoyable and if you like a superhero book with a strong girl power feel, I think you'd enjoy this.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC and giving me the chance to listen and review it honestly.

I was so amped when I got this. I've been waiting for the sequel to Into the Mist. I love this series so much. I don't want to spoil anything. But i'm so in love with this premise! I do think that this is a book that is better if you read book 1 first. but not necessary!

Mercury Rhodes is grieving; her new love and travelling buddy Ford has died. When the bombs were released a green mist escaped which lingered, every woman that inhaled the emerald cloud gained a powerful new ability, but then men - they all dissolve and die… or so they thought.

Mercury, Stella, Imani and Karen along with their travelling party are building a new community at John Day Fossil Preserve, near the Painted Hills in Oregon. They are willing to protect this place and the people in it at all costs. But protecting their home is not without its many battles.

I didn’t realise this would be the second in the series when I requested it. It doesn’t really work as a standalone, but the premise was so good and really original, so I went back and purchased the first book to give me a good foundation and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend reading them in order.

The post-apocalyptic atmosphere, feminist characters and world building all make for a riveting book. I really enjoyed the mix of fantasy, folklore and dystopia. I have loved both in this series so far and am hoping for more!

The narrator was really excellent, I liked the character voicing and they had a nice pacing. 4.5 rounded up.

Thanks to much to @netgalley for the chance to review Out of the Dawn by
P.C. Cast. This story of a post-apocalyptic group of badass women was so cool. It was unlike anything that I’ve read - it was a mix of The Stand, The Walking Dead, Narnia with the magical creatures, and Amazon women. I loved the girl power and how they were organizing their new world after a green mist killed almost all of the men, and changed the women to have new strengths, such as foresight and healing. There are always dangers, and Mercury needs to keep her friends safe.
Intriguing and different - a joy to read. Excellent narration!

I really enjoyed Out of the Dawn by P.C. Cast. This was the sequel to the book Into the Mist, which is set in a post-apocalyptic world. I loved being able to see the growth of the characters in this story, especially Karen and Gemma. I also appreciated the authors ability to link this "New World" to the Pagan gods and see the bond that develops into a powerful force to be reckoned with when the time arose. This book did have some element of triggering scenes for some readers, specifically the rape of one of the main characters, however, it was more the aftermath of the event, versus the event itself. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and am appreciative of the opportunity to listen to it in advance. Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.

So upon starting this book, I quickly realized it is book two in a series. I did not realize this when I requested the book, so I went to the library and checked out Into the Mist.

I really enjoyed Out of the Dawn. It’s a fantastic sequel that continues to build on the post-apocalyptic world I was introduced to in book one, and had great examples of female empowerment and friendship.

My only frustration is I didn’t really enjoy the narration. To me, a good narrator should enhance a story. In this case, it felt like the narrator pulled me out of the story with her voice and style. I found it very difficult to imagine what was happening. This is something I did not experience when reading book number one.

I probably am going to reread Out of the Dawn once I can get my hands on a physical copy.

Thank you to the publisher for an advanced copy of this audiobook.

Loved reading and listening to the audio version of Out of the Dawn. While Stella, Gemma, Imani, Karen, continue to make a home for everyone in the Painted Hills, Mercury is having a difficult time trying to get over the death of Ford and an enemy tries to find them. Read and/or listen to the highly recommended audio version, wonderfully written, captivating characters, and a must read riveting storyline by the phenomenal author, P.C. Cast.

"... the depth of love isn't judged by time. The depth of love shouldn't be judged at all. It should be felt, celebrated, and when it's gone, mourned. But the problem with grief is that it's seductive."

Out of the Dawn picks up close to where Into the Mist left off. Our strong group of teachers are honing their powers and learning more about themselves, their surroundings and the new world after the devastation.

I loved the post-apocalyptic feeling of book one and felt this was more a settling into routine with less of the heart pounding events. There is more focus on the mystical and foreshadowing of the light vs. dark thats hinting at the edges of the plot. There are also strong themes of consent and handling grief that could be too much for some readers.

The audiobook was an excellent listen. Narrated by Lorelei King, she kept the voices and the energy from the first book. I love when narrators stick with a series and King is perfect for this one.

I'm looking forward to seeing where the next book leads. I'm hoping the post-apocalyptic action scenes pick back up and the unique character changes bring more reveals. I also hope the subplots are more limited.

Thank you Dreamscape media for the immersive ALC! True rating 3.5/5.

This novel wasn’t really for me.

The immature lines from adult women, out of place pop culture references, and intrusive fantasy elements made this novel difficult to listen to.

The narrator did an excellent job

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This story picked up right where Into the Mist left off and that was a great story continuation. This book was fast paced and full of a lot of action. I really enjoyed the strong women in this series and the new future they create after the fall of modern civilization. This is a great dystopian series and PC Cast is a wonderful author who fills her books with the magic of the natural world and I loved the magic and rituals used in the book.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC of this book!

I really enjoyed 'Into the Mist' so when I got approved for this book I was beyond excited! It started out great and I loved the path this book took me on. I was all for the fantasy aspect of this book, however I think it went too far from what I was expecting. Without giving spoilers the diverse characters got more diverse in such a weird way. It was hard to wrap my mind around.

I really hated what happened in that one chapter(you'll know when you get there) and it was really hard to listen to but it worked for the book.

Overall a great read and it picked up right where the first left off. I hope this story isn't over!

Cast does it again!! I love a story with a statement and this one hit a lot of hard topics. Touches on women rights, race, religious views, environmental issues. Please read any trigger warnings before diving in.

A dystopian thriller set in a world where toxic green mists masks the earth killing the men who inhale it and granting gifts to women. A band of survivors must come together to overcome the obstacles faced not just by nature but by the humans trying to stake power in this new world. I don’t want to share too much because this is a sequel and spoilers😉

This is a strong found family with a very diverse cast of women. Cast does an amazing job at building believable relationships. You get so invested in the characters well-being.

Cast will always be a favorite but this duo took her to a new level for me.

A thrilling sequel to Into the Mist, Out of the Dawn picks up where book one left off. Mercury Rhodes and her friends are just trying to survive in this new world. The green mist has changed all the women into something more. And they're not the only ones...
This second novel wraps up this duology nicely. I know this is touted as a sequel but I doubt there will be any more books in this series. Thrills and loads of magic and mystical happenings abound in this dystopia. But that is definitely something to expect and look forward to in a P.C. Cast novel.

*Special thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this audio e-arc.*

I recently finished the first book in this series “Into the Mist”. As I listened to the audiobook of this second novel, I was transported back to the tale of the “Original Four”.

I enjoyed the continuation of their story & how they further connected to the earth and new found powers. I also enjoyed how they further grew their new world together.

While I understood the purpose of the mini-storyline(s), I don’t believe some of them were necessary to further the plot, I.e The rape storyline. (Why did we have to pick on Gemma in this novel too?). There was also a lot of repetitive writing so much so I thought my audiobook kept rereading the same line.

Overall I enjoyed this series and I would love to read a mini series regarding Ford & Al’s “in the middle” events if any. Special thanks to NetGalley & Dreamscape Media for providing me a copy of this audiobook.

Just a heads up--this is the second book in a series. I started listening to the book, quickly realizing I was missing information, so promptly went to read the first one, "Into the Mist". You may need to do likewise.

There is A LOT of teamwork, encouragement, and resilience shown by the women who are the main characters. Kindness and compassion are the key words for their new world and I would be on board with that. Their continued discoveries revolved around the green mist are interesting, as well as the new evolutions we see with some of the characters who have been exposed to the mist.

But I'm conflicted about the book. I enjoyed it more than the first book and found myself engaged in the exciting survival the people found themselves in after the apocalypse. There is A LOT of swearing, which I don't swear in real life so I don't usually love hearing it in my books. These is A LOT of pagan worship language, so if you're a Christian (like me) and don't want to read something that's extremely pro-pagan gods, then I'm just letting you know that's what you'll find in this book. There's a lot of smoking weed and drinking wine. The women take judgment into their own hands and enforce the death penalty with a pretty vile character. The writing is weird at time and I felt like I was listening to a list of what the characters were going to do all the time.

Interesting read. Definitely not my normal pick.

If you like apocalyptic stories where women come out on top (mostly), then Out of the Dawn by P.C. Cast is one you will very likely enjoy. This is the second book in her Into the Mist series, and really - you should read these books in order. There is so much worldbuilding, including the apocalyptic event and it's aftermath, and character development in the first book that you might be a little lost for the first third of this book if you don't read Into the Mist first.

I was so excited to hear that the narrator for Out of the Dawn is Lorelei King! She is one of my favorite narrators and I think she did a fantastic job. Her narration will drag you right into the story and bring each character to life in such a wonderful way. I had no trouble at all picturing every character, event, and location in the book. I'm not sure that would have happened if I merely read the book (something I will still do when I get my copy.)

Because this is a post-apocalyptic story, there are a few things that might justify a trigger warning (not a ton), but if it is something you worry about, please read the book description with your concerns in mind.
