Thank you NetGalley for the ARC, unfortunately this wasn’t for me. I was concerned at first starting this series with book two, but I didn’t need to worry because the author basically retold the first book in the first part. This made for a really slow start, as well as, the writing style in general throughout the book made it go slow. The sentence format I just used in this review of ‘statement, because, statement’ was how the author set everything up. Hurst did a lot of telling the audience rather than showing through the writing style, which made the story very slow and uninteresting. I found myself not caring how the story progressed and did not find it to be very thriller-esque. Hurst explained everything going on so quickly that there wasn’t anything for me to be surprised by or trying to figure out. I also found a lot of the “surprise” elements very random/unbelievable. For example, the journalist seeing Greg visiting Alice. How would that journalist not have gotten caught? Is there no security at England prisons? Another example, both women being pregnant by the end. Why? That whole storyline of Fern purposely getting pregnant by Greg was so random and added nothing to the plot. Ultimately, this felt very early stage draft rather than thrilling final product. There’s substance here, but it’s buried by the fluffy writing.

The ending of The Doctor's Wife left me wondering if a sequel was on the horizon. Well, Hurst did not disappoint. In the Doctor's Widow, Hurst delivered a spell binding tale filled with suspense and drama.
Fern is living her best life now that she believes she got the ultimate revenge against her husband and his mistress. However, as we all know, nothing lasts forever, a fact Fern will learn. All her plans came crashing down around her when she unwittingly revealed the details of her revenge plot to someone whom she believed she could trust.
Now, if you have yet to read The Doctor's Wife, you need to do so before picking up The Doctor's Widow. Readers who read book one are aware of Fern's diabolical nature. Well, it's once again on display in the sequel, and this time it is more extreme. This time around, she is fighting to protect her secret and avoid a prison sentence. She will do anything to ensure this, so prepare for a twisted and edge of your seat tale.
Once again I will be vague as it's not possible to go into details without giving away spoilers. I will say this though, this one exciting read. From the prologue to the epilogue. Be prepared for a one sitting read. And after reading that epilogue, I eagerly await the next book in the series.
The Doctor's Widow will appeal to fans of psychological thrillers.

Daniel Hurst delivers again, with this sequel to The Doctor’s Wife.
Now we find Fern, the widow, who has continued her life after murdering her husband. She has no regrets, and is spending her husband’s life insurance money in style. Her nemesis, Alice, with whom her late husband had an affair, is in prison, accused of the murder.
Fern’s life couldn’t be better, especially when she meets a handsome, new man.
Fern has no idea that this man is a friend of her late husband, and is actually determined to get a confession of murder out of Fern, and have poor innocent Alice exonerated.
This book was written in Hurst’s easy to read style. The pages flew by, with never a dull moment. My only disappointment was the abrupt ending! I wanted more, and hope that a third book will be in the works!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC in return for my honest review!

Fern is having fun!
Living it up from the proceeds of her husbands death
And with Alice safely behind bars Fern moves on with roger.
Fern has a flash car a a beautiful home and with roger
She feels like life is finally on the up, or is it.?
No spoilers here but safe to say there is plenty for Fern to
Consider as life gets complicated with people not as they seem.
Brilliant read, bring on the 3rd instalment!

4.5 rounded to 5
Another great Daniel Hurst book! This one is a game of cat-n-mouse with Fern (the widow), Alice (the mistress) and a couple detective types. Everyone is getting used to life without Dr. Drew.
This book isn’t short on brazen characters. We all know what a great actress Fern is when she wants to be. There’s lots of acting in the 2nd installment too. She’s one of those villains that I just love.
I was rooting for all of the characters in one way or another at different times throughout the story. Like I wanted Fern to be held accountable but I also wanted her to get away. I also wanted Alice in / out of jail depending on what point of the story I was in.
It was so much fun.
Next up…I’m going with The Doctor’s Mistress 🤔
Can’t wait to see what DH comes up with next.
If you love thrillers, domestic suspense then this is an author you must check out.

The second book of the Doctor Series follows Fern after her husband passed away & she has supposedly gotten away with murder… but does she? She soon gets romantically involved with someone new, but is he really who he says he is? Everyone wants revenge! Definitely recommend reading the first book, The Doctor’s Wife, to get a feel for the characters + series. (But can possibly be read as a stand-alone because it does include a bit of the background of what happened.) Multiple POVs, love to hate characters, and lots of suspense! A page turner for sure and I cannot wait to read the third book, The Doctor’s Mistress, to continue following Fern and Alice. (Still can’t decide whose side I’m on!)

This was an amazing sequel to The Doctors Wife! Well written and definitely jaw dropping. I read it all in one day. The way it ended, I think there will be another in this series!

What a sequel... I thought The Doctors Wife was gripping but wow.. book #2 was another level.
For those that haven't read book #1 I'd recommend doing so, this isnt a stand alone read.
The story opens with Fern (the doctors widow) burying her husband Dr Drew Devlin. Drew was found murdered at the end of book #1, with the woman he was having an affair with and convicted of his murder, Alice, behind bars.
Fern, having lived up the pretence of a grieving widow, is now living the high life off Drew's insurance money. Driving a flashy car and just moving into an amazing mansion in an upscale area. She has more money than she knows what to do with and is in her element.
Fern is pretty sure shes played her role perfectly and has everyone around her believing she is the victim, but has she really fooled everybody?
In steps Roger, an old friend of Drew's that she happens to bump into at a bar one night... by chance, who knows? Now dating, in secret, will Fern trust him enough to let her guard down or is Roger in too deep to find a way back to safety?
I can't go into much more as it will most definitely be full of spoilers but this is a MUST READ for those who have read the first book. It most definitely answers any questions you may have had lingering.
Whilst the characters are wholly unlikeable I loved Ferns character as the villain. The character you love to hate! I really enjoyed getting into her head, it was one hell of a ride.
Fast paced, well thought out and executed and utterly riveting.
Huge thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

This is the second book in the series and you definitely need to read the first one prior to this one.
I loved this book! I finished it in a few hours because I could not put it down. Fern is back and is trying to move on with her life after her husband is murdered and his mistress is in prison for it. She has bought a new house with the pay out from his life insurance and is planning to live a comfy life now that she does not have to work. She met Greg at the end of the first book and their relationship has progressed but is it really what it seems? Is he really that into to her or does he have another motive? Fern discovers after the surprise 40th birthday party the Greg threw for her that he has visited Alice in prison, but why? What is the connection and what has she missed?
I definitely recommend this series and cannot wait for the 3rd book to come out!
Thank you netgalley, the publisher and the author for my ARC!

Fern Devlin is the widow of Drew Devlin, a well-respected doctor. It’s thought that Drew was killed by Alice, a woman with whom he was having an affair and is now in prison for his murder. Now, Fern is driving a new car, wearing new clothes, and has just closed on a huge house.
Greg was an exercise friend of Drew and unknown to Fern, he is convinced that she had something to with Drew’s death. Therefore, he has assumed the alias of Roger and gets close to Fern.
As Fern gets comfortable with her new life, she wants to be closer to Roger and even starts thinking she wants a baby.
“Oh what tangled webs we weave when first we practice to deceive.” This quote is perfect for this book. Fern’s audacity and smugness are grating in this story making the reader so want to see her pay for her crimes. But, will she? Once again, Daniel Hurst has written a terrific novel with perfect attention to detail. I’ve read several of his books now and consider myself a fan. Don’t miss this one. Well done!
Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Daniel Hurst never ceases to amaze me. His writing style is brilliant, and I’ve loved so many of his books. This one though just wasn’t for me.

The doctor’s widow
A gripping, fast paced book, that will have you on the edge of your seat.
Daniel Hurst has done it again. I enjoyed doctor’s wife with all the twists. I was excited to hear that there was going to be another book.
The doctor’s Widow was another fast paced well written book, which had me on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what would happen to Fern and to see what she has coming to her.
It was very hard to put the book down I just wanted to keep reading. I’m sad now to have finished the book but can’t recommend it enough, if you haven’t read the first one go and read that then get this one you won’t be disappointed.
Can’t wait for book three to come out.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book In exchange for a honest review.

When I heard there was a sequel to the unputdownable ‘The Doctor’s Wife’ I couldn’t wait to read it. Yet again this was another fast paced and gripping page turner and I read it in one sitting. I settled into this book right from the prologue and I immediately knew it was another one of Hurst’s books I was going to love. Well it certainly did not disappoint. The icing on the cake for me was the ending which judging from what I read there will be a third book because if there isn’t Mr Hurst then that is just cruel ! For anyone who hasn’t yet read the first book The Doctor’s Wife then I strongly recommend reading it before this one. 5⭐️

Daniel Hurst is an Amazon #1 bestselling author of fast paced psychological thrillers. His most popular titles include Til Death Do Us Part, The Passenger and The Doctor's Wife, the latter title reaching #1 on the Amazon UK Kindle store in February 2023. A regular KDP Select All Star since he became a full-time author in 2021, Daniel prides himself on writing fast, releasing stories often and engaging with his readers.
“Thankfully, that’s not my problem.”
Fern thinks she is moving forward with her life. She has just purchased a luxurious home and is enjoying decorating it. She is even dating someone new, and while she has to keep it quiet so people don’t get suspicious, she can’t help but feel like she is getting everything she deserves.
Oh my goodness! This picked up shortly after the previous book (The Doctor’s Wife) ended and did not slow down.
Fern is such a poisonous spider. She is so sneaky, but she doesn’t know what is happening right in front of her nose. Roger is sneaky, but his motives are good. While I found him creepy, I can’t fault his motivation.
Alice is trying to survive prison. And it isn’t going well. When she gets information from an unlikely source, she feels a flutter of hope. But she is scared to get too excited because no one has believed her before. Being innocent doesn’t keep you out of prison.
The way this book unraveled was bananas. The beautifully orchestrated plot was executed so well. I love how Daniel tells a story. He captures each character so thoroughly and can make you scream at characters in his books.
I devoured this book. It is impossible to put down, and Bookouture announced the third book in this series. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

I just finished The Doctors Widow by Daniel Hurst and I have to admit it wasn’t one of my favorites. I’m just now realizing that maybe I should go back and read the first book in the series The Doctors Wife.
Fern Devlin met and got married to Dr. Drew Devlin. Once they were married Drew told Fern that she didn’t have to work anymore and that he would take care of her. A few years into their marriage Fern learns that her husband is having an affair. They move to a new town called Aberdeen where she learns they moved so Drew would be closer to his mistress Alice. From the beginning Fern lets you know that she has done something bad to her husband Drew.
After Drew’s passing Fern meets Roger at a bar and they start a relationship. He loves her and treats her well so she is happy in her new relationship. Roger has some secrets that he’s been keeping from her that we learn as we go along.
I feel like Fern is very smug and it’s almost like she’s gloating about the crimes she’s committed. She feels justified for hurting the people who has wronged her. There was no mystery and it wasn’t a thriller. It ended with a cliffhanger so even though it wasn’t my favorite read I have to know what happens so I can’t wait for the next book.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for letting me read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is another white-knuckle ride in the series of the Doctor's Wife/Widow/Mistress! Very well done, twisty and makes for fascinating reading!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!

Oh my gosh this book was maddening. You know what is going on from the beginning as Daniel Hurst takes you into the mind of Fern Devlin. Fern's husband, Dr. Drew Devlin, was viciously murdered and left for dead on the beach. Since his death, Fern has become a very wealthy lady. She has recently purchased a mansion where she plans to live happily ever after. Fern plays the role of grieving widow so well, but she definitely has some secrets. She has hit the jackpot with her new boyfriend, Roger. Roger is everything that Drew was not. He is attentive and loving, but most of all he adores her. Fern thinks she has Roger on a hook, but Roger has a secret too.
I wanted to reach into this book and slap Fern. She was so haughty and self-important. This book will play with your mind as the twists just keep coming. It was one shock wave after another. Fern is the wolf in sheep's clothing. You definitely do not want to turn your back on this woman. It took me a full hour to pick my jaw off of the floor after reading this book in full. Good gracious. Daniel Hurst will suck you into the mind of a egotistical villain who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. I did not read the Doctor's Wife, but you are given enough history to understand the story. However, it would probably be advisable to read the Doctor's Wife first so you can be glued to the pages of a Daniel Hurst thriller for two days instead of just reading book and being held captive for one day.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Fern is loving and happy, a new house, a new car and a new boyfriend, but things aren’t all they seem and Rodger is not who he says he is.
This novel is told through multiple points of view and continues from the first book The Doctor’s Wife.
Hurst give us another twisting novel that will have your jaw dropping and eyebrows creasing. I hope there is a third novel as again I know Hurst will not disappoint in whatever narrative he chooses to tell. One of my top go-to authors.

"The Doctor's Widow" seamlessly continues the narrative that began in "The Doctor's Wife," picking up right where its predecessor left off. Impressively, this second installment captured my attention even more than the first. A standout feature is the narrative's multifaceted structure, allowing us to delve into the minds of various main characters. This approach provides readers with a unique vantage point, allowing us to witness the stark contrast between different characters' experiences and circumstances. This is especially evident in the parallel but distinct trajectories of characters like Fern and Alice, whose lives are intertwined yet markedly divergent.
Daniel Hurst expertly weaves suspense into the fabric of the story, perpetually keeping us on edge and yearning to unravel the mysteries that unfold. His writing is so good that he leads us to momentarily forget the unconventional nature of the characters we find ourselves rooting for. These morally complex individuals blur the lines of conventional morality, yet Hurst's skillful storytelling ensures our allegiance is steadfast.
In "The Doctor's Widow," Daniel Hurst has artfully constructed a story of intertwining narratives, suspenseful intrigue, and morally grey characters, crafting a sequel that surpasses its predecessor in both complexity and engagement.

So good. I hadn’t read the Doctor’s Wife when I was approved for this so read it (quick read) first. Then this was an amazing second chapter in the lives of Fern and Alice. In the first chapter, Fern finds out about the affair Alice is having with her husband and things escalate. In this chapter, Alice is in prison for killing Drew and Fern is living the good life, or so she thinks. I cannot wait for the third chapter to see where these ladies are off to next or what happens!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you NetGalley, Daniel Hurst and Bookouture for hearing my honest review. Looking forward to reading more with you
