Four friends have a chance to relive the last 20 years of their lives. Will they make the same decisions or alter their life. To celebrate their 40th birthday, 4 friends travel to Malta and stumble upon a shop that could change their lives forever. As they consider and re-evaluate their choices, they soon learn the future is more uncertain than they ever imagined… A good story about 2nd chances.

I absolutely love the idea of time travel and re-do's. This book does that well. It doesn't pack a wow punch, but it is a good read and explores a fascinating concept well. I am so grateful I got the opportunity to preview this.

While "Wish Me Luck" showcases potential in its imaginative concept, it ultimately struggles to deliver a fully engaging and well-crafted narrative. The debut novel reads like a first attempt, with flat prose, an overly ambitious scope, and underdeveloped characters. It's a book that leaves much to be desired, and while it may find its audience, I found it to be a missed opportunity to fully explore the thought-provoking possibilities of its premise.

Time travel is an intriguing concept for this debut novel that, unfortunately, left me less than impressed. The premise is undoubtedly compelling: four friends are presented with the opportunity to rewind two decades of their lives, and three of them decide to take the plunge. The idea of exploring how certain choices might alter the course of their destinies held immense promise. However, the novel's execution falls short on multiple fronts.

One of the first issues that stood out is that the book reads like a debut novel, which, in fact, it is. The writing style lacks the depth and finesse typically associated with more experienced authors. While debut works often come with a degree of rawness, "Wish Me Luck" doesn't manage to harness this in a way that adds to its charm. Instead, the prose comes off as flat and uninspiring, making it challenging to fully engage with the narrative.

The narrative itself is ambitious, covering two decades of the characters' lives while switching perspective between four characters. While a sweeping scope has its merits in some novels, in this case, it feels like too much ground to cover. As a result, the story rushes through significant life events, and the reader is left without the chance to fully immerse themselves in the characters' experiences.

Another notable shortcoming lies in the character development, or lack thereof. The central figures in the story come across as two-dimensional, with limited depth or complexity. It's challenging to form a strong connection with characters who feel like mere outlines of their potential selves.

In the end, the only reason I pushed through and finished the book was that I had an Advance Reader's Copy (ARC) in hand, and the premise held a degree of intrigue. The concept of revisiting one's past decisions and exploring the what-ifs is inherently fascinating, and it was this premise alone that kept me going.

Wish Me Luck
A Story About Second Chances
by Gayle De Blake
This was a good book. At times, it was a bit slow. The re-do is not always what you wish for. Made me do my own thinking as I finished. I am sure the ending had the answer of what if. Good concept as well.
