"Mr. Lyan's Cocktails at Home" by Ryan Chetiyawardana is a great book on cocktails with great photography. I truly enjoyed reading the book and found it approachable for beginners as well. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in spirits and cocktails, a gift, or a coffee table book.

I love the lay out of this tempting guide to cocktail making. It is clear and easy to follow and I like the helpful list of 'drinks by spirit' as well as the ideas for the best times to have them. There are useful sections on equipment, ingredients, techniques and syrups and bitters, as well as the huge selection of cocktails. Bartender and bar entrepreneur Ryan Chetiyawardana believes that cocktails can complement and enhance events and encourages fun and experimentation when making drinks. I share this philosophy so I very much liked perusing and noting recipes from this book. After some informational sections on equipment, ingredients, techniques, and syrups & bitters, Chetiyawardana presents a variety of cocktails organized by different occasion types like “morning buzz” and “fireside serves.” There is a nice mix of classics, reimagined drinks with modern or international takes, and fresh new cocktails. As a party hostess I am most looking forward to making the Waggledance Punch, and as a G&T lover I am excited to try the different variations of gin and tonics. In addition to the range of recipes, I also enjoyed the homey images of the drinks being made and consumed and the writer’s notes and recommendations about each cocktail—these were good personal touches.

Whew this is a fancy cocktail book! I was not familiar with the Lyan brand before this but am impressed by the book. This isn't like an introductory cocktail book and requires a lot of ingredients and liquors that can be hard to find or are expensive. A lot of the recipes are labor intensive as well to prep compared to standard cocktails. That being said there's a lot of unique drinks and craft cocktails in this book to browse!

I think I would enjoy this more as a printed book than as an e0book. The only thing that keeps from giving 5 stars is the typeface used in non-recipe portions of the text.

I prefer a coktail book to dearching online just to avoid the weird website behaviours.

There is a nice variety given and I like the way the recipes are laid out. If I can peruse a paper copy, I may buy it.

I love that this book isn't just a cocktail recipes. There's a large section at the beginning with other information such as techniques, equipment, ingredients, and more. There's plenty of cocktail recipes that follow and there's beautiful photography included. This would be the perfect gift for any cocktail lover or party host. I don't host much myself but if I did I would definitely find this book useful.

Mr Lyan's Cocktails at Home by Ryan Chetiyawardana

This is a beautiful book of cocktail recipes! It is organized by themes such as Alfresco Days or Fireside Serves. There is also a listing of drinks by spirit. I appreciate that there are about 35 pages at the beginning of equipment, ingredients, techniques and syrups & bitters. It is a great foundation before getting into the recipes. There is a picture for each drink (bonus!) and some fun illustrations throughout. Measurements are given in milliliters and ounces, and the recipes include details like the type of glass to use.

I requested two books about drinks from NetGalley Mr Lyans Cocktails at Home and and Party Drinks: 62 Nonalcoholic Dirty Sodas, Punches & More to Celebrate!

I'm reviewing these together because, although the content differs, and they are both unique and charming books in their own ways, my reviews were going to be remarkably similar. Both books have a clear and easy to understand layout - introduction, tools, how to make your own ingredients and then recipes, neatly divided into logical chapters and then an index. Both books have both ounces and grams. Both are attractive and full of helpful tips and information. And I will probably never make any of the drinks for either of these books (except a gin and tonic, and I don't actually agree with Ryan's advice to make everything as cold as possible and use as much ice as fits in the glass - what the point of using quality ingredients if they are going to be too cold to taste?). I go out a lot, and these slightly more complicated and messy to make drinks are things I am happy to pay other people to make for me.
That said, I would be delighted and amused if someone gave me either of these attractive books as a gift. They are full of pretty pictures and delicious looking drinks, and make me dream of a life where I am tidy and have 12 kinds of bitters and 6 types of sodas in my butlers pantry.

Oh man I love a good cocktail book and I host a lot of parties so this one was perfect. I tried a few out and their delicious I can’t wait to buy the physical copy

Very unique drinks I’ve never heard of like chocolate wine whattt but then some standards like old fashion Bellini etc

This is an excellent collection of cocktails. The cookbook provides general tips for making drinks and recipes for common and uncommon drinks. The basic recipe for each drink is easy to follow, and there are additional tips or information on making the drinks provided as well.

The doodles are super cute but for accessibility purposes I would have liked a regular font. It's not the worst thing ever, it's just something that caught my eye because I was straining a bit to read.

The cocktail photos are gorgeous! So far I've tried and loved the "Summer Berry Tequila with Ginger Ale" and the "Bicycletta" which were big hits at a dinner party.

The little descriptions of the drinks are also cute! The one for the Manhattan for example: "Satisfying, rich and complex, it's peerless when I need something to settle my body and soul late in the evening." couldn't agree more

I absolutely loved reading this book. I was completely drawn into the topic of cocktails and could not stop reading it.

Fantastic, informative cocktail making book. I loved the unique illustrations for graphics and easy to follow instructions. There is a huge selection of drinks in the book, perfect for all occasions and tastes. I like that you can search by the spirit as well as drink types.

Mr Lyan's Cocktails at home is a lovely collection of cocktail recipes for a variety of occasions. There are drinks for Morning Buzz, Market Fresh, Summer Social Sips, Alfresco Days, Pre-dinner, Friday Nights, Rambles, Fireside Serves, Winter Feasting, and Simple Serves.

I love that there's a table of contents listed by alcohol type. I love the combination of line drawings and photographs, and the variety of cocktails is impressive. My favorites so far are the Pineapple Rum with Ginger Beer and the Rhubarb, Pear and Cardamom Vodka with Fresh Lemonade.

One thing I really didn't like was the funky font used throughout the book. It was too hard on my old eyes. (Old people should be able to enjoy lovely cocktails, too!) The recipe pages are in normal font though, so while it's annoying, it doesn't take away from the fantastic cocktail recipes!
