An enjoyable read out loud book with lots of sss words, nicely written and illustrated. A simple, very likeable story, which will get the kids laughing and a perfect book to read out loud before bed! Enjoyable.

This was cute. As a speech and language pathologist, I appreciate the many opportunities to work on sibilant sounds throughout the book. Incorporating literacy into articulation therapy can be tricky and this book makes that part easy. The plot was fine but not anything groundbreaking. I think this book would be a great choice for work on sounds but I wouldn't necessarily pick it up to read to my own kids at bedtime.

Really cute children's story - my kids and I enjoy reading it together - we make funny noises wfor the "SSSSssssnnake" sounds. Really quick read for bedtime - highly recommend. The illustrations are also good.

Well there's sibilance here, and some easy rhymes giving some impetus to the story, but the narrative is as simplistic as the artwork. A girl sees a snake on a skate whizzing round her bedroom, and when her father has the idea to beat seven shades out of it, they resort to making it a cake – which they duly do, the snake eats the cake and then it turns eight PM, so what the heck the girl was doing falling asleep so early I have no idea. I'd get her to the doctors' if I were the dad.

I guess from that flippancy you can guess there's little to say about this – it's not awful. It's certainly not great. It just, well, is.

What a sssmashing ssstory! This is delightful book, telling us about how Suzie had a surprise visitor one night - a snake slithering in on a roller skate...

Father raced to the rescue with a rake, but Suzie found a more palatable solution - cake!!! The story comes with rhyming text and exuberant illustrations, and will be greatly enjoyed by young children.

Parents can also boost the fun of this book by using the many 's' words for sssibilant ssstorytelling. I give it 3.5 stars.

I think this is such a cute, funny, and engaging bedtime story! I love the rhyme scheme and think after reading it with your child a few times before bedtime, they will definitely be able to read it along with you! I love how this book takes the idea of the conventional “monster under your bed” type tale and replaces it with a sssilly sssnake! I also really like the use of onomatopoeia on most pages in the book! Words like “whoosh!” and “slurp” really adds to the amusement and engagement of a book like this. Kids can even read along and make these sounds with you!
One part that I think is exceptionally clever is the scene where the father comes into the room with a rake to defend the child against the snake. He has plans to whack it on the head to get rid of it, like most people would do with a pest in the house. But, Suzie very quickly exclaims that hurting him isn’t going to do anything and that instead, they should bake him a cake! I really like this because it takes the focus off of getting rid of problems through harm and instead, focuses on getting rid of things in more kinder ways!
I think the illustrations in this book are super cute, however, I think that with the addition of some extra detail, the images would be more appealing. For example, there are a couple of pages that are just one color and have the snake in the corner. I think that maybe if there was some shading, and more detail in the background that kids may find it more interesting!
Finally, I absolutely adore that the sound that is focused on throughout this book is the letter “s.” This is really important for children to practice because a lot of them really struggle with their “s” sounds! Having an interactive book where they can practice saying this sound on each page will be so beneficial!!
I would like to thank BooksGoSocial for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

With the Ss and the rhyming this book is a lot of fun. A silly read that kids will enjoy. The illustrations are nice and the snake has a lot of character.
