Frieda McFadden can write a fast-paced entertaining thriller. The Locked Door has a creepy premise, the adult daughter of an infamous serial killer is trying to distance herself from her father's dark past. She changed her name, is a reputable surgeon, but she also doesn't have any close friends or people that truly know her backstory. When two of her past patients are found murdered, with her father's 'signature', she is brought in for questioning.
There are plenty of red herrings that sidetrack you and I was surprised by the person 'whodunnit.' I thought I had predicted it accurately, but I was wrong and pleasantly surprised. There were some parts of the plot that I felt weren't fleshed out enough, but for a quick, easy thriller, this one did it for me.

I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I have really enjoyed McFadden's books in the past, including The Housemaid, so I was extremely excited to receive an ARC of this book. Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for sending me this!
This book really intrigued me at first and I was so curious to how the spooky chapters would progress. However, I felt like this book fell a little flat and farfetched towards the end. While yes, many thrillers are similar, something about this just didn't click with me.
I absolutely understand how many people would love this book, especially If you're a previous fan of her writings, however, it just didn't do it for me. I will say, however, that I definitely did not predict the end!
Even though it wasn't my favorite Freida McFadden book, I definitely reccomend giving it a try yourself!

I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. So I requested this book thinking that it was a new book as the publication date is October 3 but it actually was released in 2021. I was reading it and thought it sounded familiar.

This was a quick and twisty read that I finished in one sitting. It centers on Nora, whose father is a serial killer; she is a successful surgeon stuck on distancing herself as much as possible when her patients start getting murdered in a very similar way. She wants to find out what is happening before anyone else gets hurt but also doesn’t want to blow her cover and let those close to her know who her father is.
The story is told in alternating timelines between Nora’s childhood and now. This is well done and gives the reader good insight into what Nora’s childhood was like. There were great twists in the book that kept me changing my mind about who I thought did what. When the villain was revealed, I was legitimately surprised (which I think is hard to do!). The ending tied up all the loose ends well (though possibly a little TOO cleanly) and I think it worked.
Overall, this was another winner from McFadden and I’d recommend to those who like psychological thrillers and mysteries. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Freida McFadden is going on my guaranteed good read author list! The Locked Door is a fast paced thrilled that had me staying up way past bedtime for just one more page! This is the kind of book you want to take on an airplane as the time will just speed by! Looking forward to reading more from this author.

While I didn't love the style or the voice, I did enjoy this book.
The author definitely kept me guessing and I didn't see the reveal coming - at all.
Keep in mind that most of the characters are kind of ick. The nice part, however, is that the book is so suspenseful and you're so curious about the *who* of everything that the ick just kind of slides by.
Definitely an enjoyable read!

Another hit by Freida McFadden that I could not put down. There were a lot of twists that I did not see coming, right up until the last freaking page!!!!!

I get the Freida McFadden hype. Her books are quick, twisty, and entertaining. This one was no exception! I thoroughly enjoyed the thrill ride and did not see all the twists coming.
Nora is trying to leave the past behind her. While she was a child, her father committed his murderous acts in the family basement. As an adult, Nora has changed her name and become a surgeon. She is successful and quiet in her life and no one knows her father's serial killer past. When one of her patients is murdered in a suspiciously similar way to her father's victims, Nora private life is at risk. Someone knows her secret and wants to frame her for the murders...

Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the opportunity to read this book.

Freida McFadden is a master at writing thriller novels that suck you in and keep you guessing until the end. This one got my heart racing and had me not wanting to stop reading until I finished it.
It is a thoroughly enjoyable read, although it certainly makes me glad we don't have a basement!

Thank you to NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press, and the author Freida Mcfadden, for the advanced copy of The Locked Door.
I am starting a collection of Freida's books and I have to say that I am enjoying each one more than the last.
This captivating read begins with Nora, a surgeon, whose father is a serial killer....not just any serial killer but an infamous, disturbed man who murdered and tortured many women, typically with dark hair and blue eyes. Nora is just a young girl when she notices the basement door is always locked and her father, a phlebotomist who everyone loves is always down there. One day he leaves the door unlocked and Nora, being young and inquisitive, goes to see what he is always so busy with. She hears a noise and removes the sheet on the cage ..... Pick up the book to find out what happens.......it will shock you! This book had my attention from the beginning and kept it throughout with some awesome twists and turns you wouldn't expect!!
Nora's past and present chapters lead the story and keep you wondering!
I recommend The Locked Door for a bit of a spook and to keep you hooked!

This one was a quick read that I enjoyed. The characters were decent and the plotline was interesting. The plot twist was good for the most part, but did not feel necessary at the very end. The ending did kind of ruin it for me. Overall, I would recommend it, though.

3.5 stars. This definitely kept my attention and had me on edge the whole time trying to guess what would happen next. Great thriller to get lost in, but overall not super memorable.

Freida McFadden can do no wrong! She is one of a kind. I read her thrillers to get me out of any reading slump! 5 stars.

Really enjoyed this book. Did not see the twist coming at the end. Loved the story - the characters were great. Freida McFadden has done it once again!

Thanks to #netgalley for this arc
Nora is an interesting character. She's not exactly innocent, or a good person, and because of that I had a difficult time rooting for her character. Which was honestly quite fun. Give me a character that's not perfect, please and thank you!
The main storyline was so interesting with all the flashbacks that show you more and more about what happened all those years ago. I loved reading about it.
The big reveal was unexpected. I had so many theories about who the killer would be, but in the end I was completely off. Sadly, how unexpected it was also came as a bit of a disappointment as you wouldn't be able to guess who it was as a reader, and I like playing detective.
All in all, a great book!

I was drawn into the story immediately which is surprising since I was in a reading slump. I thought there was enough going on that I never lost interest in it. I thought there were enough good suspects to keep the plot moving. I was really enjoying it up until the end. I think the ending felt like a cartoon villain and I didn't even want to read it. I think if the villain had been a little less cliche it would have been a very nice ending. I think I would've rated it higher if the ending was different. It kind of ruined the whole book for me.
