To eleven year old Nora Davis, her dad, is just her dad. A normal dad with a normal, even respectable job, a normal wife, and a normal family. That is, when he’s not killing women in his basement. Nora loves her father, until she’s the one to find this out.
Twenty six years later, Nora Davis is now the surgeon Nora Nierling, distant from her serial-killer father in terms of emotions, location, and even her new name. She is skillful at separating her father’s past from her present, but what happens when someone starts killing her patients in exactly the same way her father killed his victims? Read “The Locked Door” to find out. ;)
I will start with a full disclaimer: this genre normally isn’t my genre, but Freida McFadden had me forgetting that. This book is extremely hard to put down and impossible to stop thinking about. I had multiple theories about who the killer was, and all of them were wrong! Every twist and turn in this book threw me for a loop, in the best of ways. It’s unpredictable without being unreasonable, twisty without being erratic. I love the effortless parallels the author drew between Nora and her father.
It’s worth noting that as a narrator, Nora is fairly unlikable, and definitely LIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD <spoiler> somewhat unreliable </spoiler>. (SPOILERS OVER) However, I like reading about unlikable people, as long as they’re interesting, and no one can accuse Nora of being boring.
Tl;de Four stars! Would absolutely recommend, and the twists will take you for a ride.

Like Freida McFadden’s other thrillers, I really enjoyed this one. I wish the book would have added a little more information in the flashbacks, but overall I was very interested.
Nora is the daughter of the Handyman, a notorious serial killer in Oregon. 26 years after her father’s arrest, she has changed her name, moved and became a successful surgeon. Nora lives under the radar, keeping others at an arms length to protect her secret… until a copycat killer begins framing her.
I enjoyed the relationship between Nora and Brady and the looming serial killer gene. I did not see the twist coming, nor did I guess the ending, which always makes for the best reads!

Wow! I have read a few of Freida McFadden’s books and have enjoyed them but I feel like this was at a whole different level. I read the book quickly because I needed to know how it ended. Nora Davis is a successful surgeon who has established a life away from where she grew up. She changed her name and no one has known who she is for the past 26 years. The police question Nora because two women she has treated in her practice are found murdered. The police know who she is….it turns out Nora Davis is actually Nora Nierling and Nora’s father is currently spending life in prison for killing women in her childhood basement. Nora has worked hard to get away from her father’s legacy. Now, the police think Nora is following in her father’s footsteps.

I really enjoyed this book the pace was fast with plenty going on throughout the book and the ending was very good this was my first book by Freida but definitely won't be my last

Nora is a surgeon, but before that she was the daughter of a notorious serial killer. And when a copycat killer surfaces, targeting her patients, it looks like Nora's history is coming back to haunt her ...
This is a very good thriller with lots of gripping twists. I couldn't put it down, and it kept me guessing right to the end!
I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

I find Freida’s books to be fast paced and easy to read. I liked the whole daughter of a serial killer aspect of this book. It made it interesting to try and put the pieces together. I also enjoyed the plot twists that I didn’t see coming.
Thank you to Freida McFadden, Poisoned Pen Press, and Netgalley for a free copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review.

This is my first time reading a book by Frieda McFadden. I was not disappointed. I received this as an arc through Netgalley and am providing an honest review. I could not put this book down. I loved every bit of it. I love the twists. Every time I thought I figured it out new information would be presented and I would second guess my theories. This book is great for those that love crime/Thriller stories.

Interesting premise…do the children of serial killers inherit the traits of their parents? The Locked Door kept me engaged but I was left wishing I liked at least one of the characters. Nora seemingly was on the spectrum from a very young age - brilliant but unable to relate well with others. Of course, living in the household she was living in would bring on many emotional issues. There were twists and turns - some predictable and others not. The ending was a surprise. I did have a lot of questions when I finished…one important one was the reports made by Brady’s neighbors.
Freida McFadden knows how to keep readers engaged and reading “just one more chapter”.
Many many thanks to Freida McFadden for a few hours of nail biting reading, Hollywood Upstairs Press, and NetGalley for affording me the opportunity to read an arc of this just published read. Keep writing Freida McFadden!

"The Locked Door" by Freida McFadden follows Nora in her adult life as a surgeon, being framed for murders of two of her patients in the same style as her serial killer father who has been imprisoned since she was young. It is told in dual timeline which gives you perspective on how Nora grew up and what's going on in the story.
This book felt like watching a movie to me. I was very intrigued the whole time and when I couldn't be reading, the story was still on my mind. It was very twisty and unpredictable for me. I found myself doubting the main character and suspecting everyone before we actually found out who the culprit was. I did not see anything coming and possibilities were popping into my head about where the book was going that weren't even close.
"The Locked Door" is a fast, easy read that I would highly suggest to fans of psychological suspense thrillers. I really enjoyed this and if a movie were made of this, I'd watch it for sure.

I loved this book! Very fast paced and exciting to read. I’ve read a few of Freida Mcfaddens books and every time I’m blown away!

11 year old Nora Davis had no idea that her father was killing women in the basement of their home until police arrived at their front door. Twenty six years later, she is a successful Surgeon and still refuses to let anyone know who her father is. She might not be able to keep her secret any longer once multiple women that Nora has a connection to begin to become victims in the same gruesome way that followed her fathers pattern. Someone knows who Nora is and wants her to take the fall for all of these crimes. Can Nora figure out who is trying to frame her before it’s too late?

I’m obsessed with Freida McFaddens writing. Her books are so easy to read and keep you thoroughly engaged and entertained. This book had the perfect amount of suspense where being the baby that I am, I was still able to sleep comfortably at night . I still had a couple of questions after finishing this book and I feel like the ending came a little too quickly, but it was still an enjoyable thriller read to add to my October list. If you love a good serial killer story then pick this one up! I didn’t see that ending coming!

🙏 Thank you NetGalley, Poisoned Penn Press, and Freida McFadden for this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts 💕

I received an arc from Netgalley. The opinions are my own. Nora was 11 when her father was arrested for killing 18 women. 26 years later, Nora is a surgeon. One of her patients is dead in the same manner her father used to kill his victims. The police suspect it was Nora.
I thought I knew who the killer was for most of this book. I did not. I really enjoyed this book and I'd recommend it.

Thank you to net galley for providing me with a copy of this book for a fair review.
This story we follow our main character Nora whose father is a convicted serial killer. Nora is currently a successful surgeon who has spent her life trying to hide her identity as the child of a serial killer from the public. However murders start to pop up around her and Nora is thrown into suspicion with the police and trying to keep her name clean.
I was so excited to read this book after having enjoyed The HouseMaid and The Housemaid’s Secret so much. This story had a good premise however I just felt that it too long to get into the meat of the story. I found that nothing griping really started to happen until the 200 page mark, and for me that’s just too long. I felt there could have been some twists or red herrings before that point to keep the reader on the edge of their seats. Overall I would give this one a 3 star it was good but nothing groundbreaking. I still enjoy this author and will continue to keep an eye out for more from her.

Another quick read with a gripping plot! This book had me up late into the night trying to figure out what is going on in Nora's life. Was it a case of an unreliable narrator or a crazy copy cat killer bringing up secrets from Nora's past. The author planted little seeds throughout this book that will make you second guess yourself.
Thank you so much for this ARC!

I love this author. There is not a book she wrote that I read that I haven’t liked. This book was creepy in the best way. It kept me guessing until the very end.

This has me guessing until the end! What a quick and enjoyable read! I would definitely recommend and read more from this author!

Always love her books!! Another great suspense, keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end!! The characters are always well developed, and there's always that Freida twist at the end you don't see coming.

I was kindly sent this book by poisoned pen press on NetGalley and couldn’t wait to get stuck in. I’ve never read a psychological thriller and normally love my romance however, this book was a rollercoaster and I loved it! I read this book in 2 days which is amazing for me.
This book follows Nora, a surgeon with a dark secret she doesn’t share with anybody… her father is a serial killer who murdered 18 women and kept them in her childhood home basement. 26 years have gone by since Nora’s father went to prison however, when 2 of her patients show up murdered in the same horrific way her father committed his crimes, she worries somebody knows her secret and is trying to frame her for murder.
This book was gripping and the twist at the end was one I couldn’t have predicted! If you’re looking for a gripping psychological thriller that you can’t put down, this is your book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"The Locked Door" by Freida McFadden is a gripping and suspenseful thriller that kept me guessing until the very end. While it doesn't quite reach perfection, it's a highly enjoyable read that delivers on its promise of mystery and intrigue. The story's premise immediately drew me in, and McFadden does an excellent job of building tension from the very beginning. The setting is described vividly, and the author's attention to detail adds an eerie and immersive quality to the narrative.
What sets this book apart is its well-crafted characters. Each one has a distinct personality, and their interactions and backstories add layers of complexity to the plot. It's easy to become invested in their fates and motivations, which is a testament to the author's character development. The pacing is spot on, with just the right balance of suspenseful moments and quieter, character-driven scenes, and the story line kept me engaged and eager to uncover the truth.
While the twists and turns are well-executed, there were a few instances where I felt like the resolution was somewhat rushed or overly convenient. I would have appreciated a bit more depth in certain areas to make the resolution feel more satisfying. Despite this minor quibble, "The Locked Door" is an excellent thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It's a worthy addition to the genre, and Freida McFadden's storytelling skills shine through. If you're a fan of mysteries and enjoy a good puzzle of secrets, this book is well worth your time and attention.
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for granting me access to this book in exchange for my authentic review.

Nora has lived with the fact that her father is a serial killer for many years. Now incarcerated, he has nothing to do with her and her everyday life. Until women start showing up murdered, with the same MO as her dad. The victims were all Nora’s patients at her surgeon practice. She is being framed, and she has no idea by who.
Another win from McFadden! She is officially an auto-read for me. Her books are all so entertaining and twisty. I love how she always throws in a tidbit at the end that makes you second guess whatever you just read. Nora was a great character and she was so complex. The flashbacks to her childhood were riveting and sooo dysfunctional. You never know who to really trust throughout this novel. If you are a thriller lover, pick this one up!
