Imagine finding out as a child that your father was a serial killer. Then you go through college and med school trying to hide your past. Then your own patients started to be murdered in the very same way your father's victims were. This is what Nora is going through. This is a must read for anyone who loves thrillers. Very gripping and fast-moving from the first page.

Starting October with another twisted story from Freida McFadden! My fourth read from McFadden.
The plot was compelling but the storyline wasn't as intriguing as compared to her other works. It could have had a darker turn..or probably just the spooky season speaking.

What would you do with your life if your dad was a famous serial killer? Nora is the daughter of a serial killer and as a doctor, she is trying her best to live a normal life. Nora changed her name and created a medical career in hopes that no one ever discovers who she really is. Her life comes to a screeching halt when a copycat killer begins killing some of her previous patients with "The Handyman's" signature. As always, Freida McFadden's writing will pull you in and you'll find yourself staying up late to finish this one!
Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press for providing me with an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for review.

Can't seem to get enough of Freida McFadden's books! This was a good one...I certainly had alot of guesses but didn't figure this one out. I have grown weary of serial killer's daughters (how many can there be???) but enjoyed the character and wondered about the impact of genetics the whole time!

The Locked Door by Frieda McFadden
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
“He is a narcissist and a psychopath, who likely killed at least thirty women without a trace of remorse. He is insane. He is a monster. He is also my father.”
🕯️MY THOUGHTS 🕯️
Thank you so much to NetGallery and Frieda McFadden for providing an ebook in exchange for an honest review.
Excuse me, my head is still spinning from that plot twist. This is my first time reading anything by Frieda and it won’t be the last. Her writing style was addictive. I got completely lost in this book and before I knew it I was forgetting my responsibilities and unable to put it down.
I thought for sure I had the ending figured out, but Frieda had other plans and plot twist of all plot twists - here comes curve ball. I am however so happy with how things turned out for Nora. I loved the happy(?) ending.
After the very last chapter I’m still giving Nora some side eye… Frieda we need a book two!
If you love mystery, psychological thrillers that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and some true crime vibes this book is for you. The Locked Door is available on kindle unlimited today!

If there is a writer out there better at building suspense and yanking your brain into 100 different direction and back I haven't found them.
Nora is the daughter of a serial killer. At 11 she is the one that tipped the police off about what her father was doing in the basement. She is now an adult and a general surgeon living under a different last name to avoid anyone making a connection to her depraved dad.
Now 26 years later, her father miles away serving 18 consecutive life sentences, someone is duplicating his crimes and trying very hard to pin them on Nora.
This book broke my brain! I thought I had it figured out a third of the way through. Then changed my mind and new I had it figured again at around half way. The last half of this had me riveted trying to figure out if I was right.
Nope. The twists and turns are boogling. She is so, so, so good at throwing curve balls and red herrings.
I can't recommend this enough to fans of thrillers/psychological suspense. She is a master of her craft and I look forward to inhaling more of her books.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy. My honest opinions are my own and I was not compensated for my review.

Freida McFadden is just the master of thrillers. She knows how to create a scene and create such life-like characters. Sometimes I never read the summary of her books and just dive in blind, because I know it will be amazing. I absolutely recommend this book! Give yourself a break from tv and depressing news and get fully engaged with The Locked Door.

Wow! This is my first ever Thriller read, and Freida McFadden surely knows how to keep me guessing and scare me at the same time. Reading this alone in my room with lights out made me so paranoid like I kept on looking on my sides because it feels like someone is looking at me and that is a compliment. I can't wait to read her other works!

When a book starts with the main character identifying they are the child of a serial killer you should know it is going to be a wild ride. This story had several twists and the big one definitely got me!! I thought I had figured out who the copy cat murderer was but I never would have guessed this!!

I know by now not believe all the clues that appear to be laid out in a Freida McFadden book, but I still didn’t see that twist coming.
Nora is the daughter of a serial killer. It has been 26 years since he went to prison. She has changed her name and is a successful surgeon.
Local women are found dead with her dad’s signature. Nora has no idea who the copycat is but the police have her as their prime suspect. This in and of itself is problematic, but it also appears someone is trying to frame her for the murders.
Is Nora a reliable narrator or is she more like her dad than others know?
This story is told from Nora’s perspective, but it bounces between present day and her childhood.
If you love Freida McFadden books you are sure to love this one too.

Nora is the daughter of an infamous serial killer, a secret she has kept hidden from everyone in her current life. But when someone starts killing women in the exact sane manner her father did, Nora fears for her secret and her life as she knows it.
McFadden always delivers, and this is no exception. The suspense is palpable from the first chapter. The flashbacks are super effective and really creepy. There’s even a well done love story sprinkled throughout. And the twists! The twists are so good. I would definitely recommend this book.

Such a quick, entertaining, heart stopping read!
This book held my attention from the get go, and when I thought I had it figured out, I was totally wrong 🙃🙌🏼
I really enjoyed this thriller, and I appreciated that I didn’t see the twist coming.
Personal opinion, don’t read it at night 🫣Oh boy was my mind racing all night after reading this.
Another excellent, and thoroughly enjoyable psychological thriller novel by the amazing Frieda McFadden.
This book was originally released in 2021, but was re-released this week!
A perfect book to add to your spooky TBR for October.

First and foremost, thanks to NetGalley, Poison Pen Press and the author of for an ARC of THE LOCKED DOOR in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed were my own.
THE LOCKED DOOR is a fast paced who-done-it. The writing is simplistic with minor editorial problems/ errors. Character development was poor. I was not engaged with the protagonist at all. However, the plot kept my attention as I was invested in knowing who was the villain. The big reveal at the end was a total shock, but because there was never an inkling, it just seemed conveniently contrived. A good mystery leaves clues; this book did not, so that was disappointing and left me with with a meh 🫤 feeling. The twists seemed “out of the blue” so not realistic An okay fast read, but underwhelming.

This is my first Frieda McFadden book, and I can guarantee it will not be my last. This is a wild story that made my head spin with all the twists and turns. Nora Davies is a respected surgeon., She is a partner in a medical practice. she has even met a nice man. But she has a secret. Her father is a notorious serial killer who cut off the hands of his victims. Presently he’s in jail. While Nora tries to distance herself from her past it is encroaching on her present. Told, by moving seamlessly between the past and the present. as the story unfolds and left me reader questioning if Nora is who she claims to be. Or is she just like her father? How can she explain the dead patients, with missing hands, or the severed hands in the trunk of her car? The tension builds in this story keeping me on the edge of my seat till the shocking conclusion.

Thank you to NetGalley, Poison Pen Press and Freida McFadden for the chance to read this ARC!
3.75 rounded up to 4 stars. This one was very fast paced, twisty (that last twist yeow!) and (for me) came to a satisfying end.
Stories where the MC is made to feel insane or that they are "losing it" cause me a lot of stress and anxiety so that is why I took a star off!

This gave me strong Dexter vibes, which I enjoyed! It was a very compelling, quick read. I couldn’t wait to find out who was doing what. None of the characters are particularly likable, which made it even harder to determine and figure out. Very twisty! I like her style and loved the different POV at the end that delivered a last twist. I’m a fan of her books, I’ve enjoyed each one that I’ve read so far!

Her books get better every time I think I have it figured out I don't. It reminded me of a twisted version of the movie My girl. You just needed to know what's behind the locked door. She is definetly a favorite and I will keep reading. She gives multiple plot twists in a story.

If you like Keirsten Modglin, these 2 authors go hand in hand. They are crazy as hell in that you never see the twists coming, while also being entirely unrealistic. Also, sooooo addictive, you never know what to expect.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for providing me with an eARC of The Locked Door in exchange for my honest review!
This is the first time I'm reading a Frieda McFadden thriller, and I've been interested in checking out her work after a friend of mine recently enjoyed a book of hers, The Housemaid. I'm definitely bumping that up my TBR pile after having finished The Locked Door, which pulled me into the murky layers of Nora's character and the baggage she's carried over from her serial killer father. I wasn't quite certain for much of the plot whether she's the sort of protagonist who's morally gray yet rootable or if she's just straight-up nefarious, which is part of what kept me turning the page. I liked the supporting cast, too, even when one of them (Philip) made me cringe. At least his behavior doesn't get too over-the-top and extraneous, but still, he made me groan sometimes. And when the fast-paced plotting reached its third act, I found myself very satisfied with how things wrapped up. I hadn't expected it to go in that direction, but it made sense when I thought back on the rest of the narrative.
Overall, I'm officially rating The Locked Door four out of five stars. It's certainly getting me geared up to read more of McFadden's work.
