Unfortunately, after reading several of Ms. Beard's
books and really liking them, I didn't like this one.
A couple (Jason and Alice) home on a rainy night and getting ready to retire, are surprised to hear knocking on their front door. It's Jason's childhood best friend, Carl, and he manages to finagle a bed for the night. And then some! Alice is upset, Jason seems unable to say 'no' to Carl and has led him into trouble in the past. This time the trouble is enormous and life threatening.
I was irritated and angry at Jason as well as Alice, who kept supporting Jason. It seemed impossible that people could be so stupid!

I enjoyed this book but struggled to decide whether to give three or four stars. It was a quick read and kept me interested, reading it over the course of a day. However for a short-ish book it had a lot of very short chapters. This would probably appeal to some readers, but I prefer to have longer chapters as I can sometimes find it difficult to get into a book if the chapters are too short. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC

Good book! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, Action, intrigue, mystery, reveng, murder, great plot twist, and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
