Interesting read. I liked the premise (well as a mom liked is the wrong word) and I really liked the narration. It was a quick read but it packed a lot in. Overall a decent read by a great author.

If you're in the mood for a cat and mouse suspense, you may want to give this book a try. I would describe it as a "pinball machine" read in which I had no idea where it was going for a large part of the story. I just sat back, and allowed it to take me where it wanted. I enjoyed the ride.

It was told through multiple perspectives and had some decent plot twists. I had to suspend disbelief at times as there were some plot elements and character decisions that were farfetched. The characters were also more on the one note side. However, despite its shortcomings, it was a fun listen.

The audio performance used different narrators for the various perspectives, which I liked. It kept me engaged.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #DreamscapeMedia for an audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

The Other Mother was a good read by Miranda Rijks. Jane is asked to pick up her friend's daughter Florrie from school. She doesn't imagine that there would be someone there pretending to be Jane to collect Florrie. Now four year old Florrie is missing. Jane starts receiving anonymous letters which happen to include intimate details about her life. She is used to getting letters that ask for advice but these are much different. Jane happens to find incriminating evidence in her home that is clearly linked to Florrie. During this time her marriage is crumbling, her children start acting out, and her once successful psychologist business starts falling apart. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.

Book: The Other Mother
Author: Miranda Rijks
Format: Audiobook
Genre: Fiction, Thriller
Places Featured: United Kingdom
Review Score: ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 (rounded down)
Review: You know I like a good thriller, especially one on audiobook that keeps my attention enough that I want to keep listening. The Other Mother is a fairly standard thriller, but I did spend a whole evening listening to it because I didn’t want to stop. In this thriller, four-year-old Florrie was supposed to be picked up from school by her mother’s friend Jane, but when Jane arrives to the school, someone else impersonating her has already taken Florrie away and no one knows where she has gone. As the community and the police start to look for her, secrets between her parents and their friends begin to be revealed… I was disappointed that the villain wasn’t more of a twist and it came too early in the story, but it’s still an entertaining audiobok.

Thank you Dreamscape Media for allowing me to read and review The Other Mother on NetGalley.

Narrators: Nicola F. Delgado; Lorna Bennett; Emma Fenney.

Stars: 3

I reminded myself several times there was a kidnapped 4-year-old while reading. At around 70% of the book, I realized this was not about a missing child. The characters around the child makeup the story with their individual quirks, idiosyncrasies, and relationships. None of the characters are likable; all are shady and unscrupulous.

The narrators were okay.

I had three wow moments:
1. This is less than 300 pages and it felt so much longer.
2. There is no profanity. Rijks at one point uses the phrase F word, I noticed and appreciated her choice.
3. The Letter -- again --- WOW, didn't see it coming. I liked it.

Overall, the book is just okay. It is mainstream. The bones are there for a better story; so I will pick up another by the author.

I like that I can unapologetically recommend this to youth groups, teens, young adults, and elderly. (FYI. I don't recommend what I cannot read out loud.)

I purchased a copy of this audiobook on Audible, and I leave my review voluntarily.

Miranda Rijks lives in Sussex, England with her husband and black Labradors. When she is not writing, she is dreaming about living in a chalet on a Swiss mountain, obsessively knitting and painting on her iPad. Her books include: The Lodge, The Visitors, The Arrangement, The New Neighbour, The Second Wife, The Other Mother, The Insomniac, The Concierge, Forget Me Not, The Only Child, What She Knew, The Influencer, Roses Are Red, You Are Mine, Deserve To Die, I Want You Gone, Fatal Fortune, Fatal Flowers and Fatal Finale.

This was so well done. It was fantastic having the different voices bringing the characters to life. It added more dimension to the plot.

This was a ride. A favor leads to tragedy. This is a staunch reminder that not everyone who stands with you is actually in your corner.

This novel took a deep dive into the relationships between. Husband and wife, mother and child, and friend to friend. Showing the good and the bad.

I loved the pacing of this novel; it flowed smoothly and kept me hooked. The narrators did a brilliant job bringing the characters to life and generating emotion.

The ending was quite surprising. I had my suspicions. This was engaging, terrifying, and impossible to stop listening to!

That's what I mean when I say a thriller moves quickly! It reads so quickly that it's simple to get absorbed in the narrative. a number of incredibly unlikeable people as well as ones that I genuinely cared about. A surprise conclusion and many of turns and twists to keep you guessing. incredibly fun.

Jane, a psychologist, is asked for a favor from a friend, to pick up her daughter from school and take her to the dentist. Arriving a few minutes late Jane is told another woman claiming to be Jane already picked the little girl up. Now the child is missing and nobody knows who has taken her. Jane then begins receiving anonymous letters to her advice column that include intimate details about her life. Are they somehow connected to the missing child? Why would anyone want to kidnap this young girl? The policer have plenty of suspects but hey are they focused on Jane’s own husband?

I have become a big fan of Miranda Rijks. Her thrillers are fast paced and easy to follow. I was pulled in from the first page, needing to know what had happened to the missing girl. Told from multiple points of view this book was filled with twists and turns at every corner. Everyone has become a suspect and the reader doesn’t know who to trust. While I thoroughly enjoyed this story, it was not my favorite by this author. I found the main characters unlikeable with very few redeeming qualities. The amount of heartbreak and terror you would expect from parents and friends of a kidnapped child were glossed over or not relevant. It felt as though all the characters were more concerned with their own personal dramas rather than finding the child. I liked that it was a quick read and kept its pacing well but just found it difficult to connect with any of characters. A solid 3 star read in my opinion.

Of course Jane agrees to pick up her friends four-year-old daughter from school! Who wouldn't do her friend a simple favour like this?
But Florrie has already been collected by someone else! This is how the Other Mother starts. And now the little one is missing. When anonymous letters start arriving at Jane's things even get worse.
This story starts off like a hell of a ride and continues with this speed. Plenty of twists and turns make this a well written psychological thriller.
The narration by Nicola F. Delgado; Lorna Bennett and Emma Fenney bring this story to life.

An odd mix characters in the story of an abducted child.  A psychologist friend of the mom is the first character you meet, there’s a dysfunctional family, teenagers that are out of control and patients who are threatening. There are so many expected and unexpected twists in the story that the reader gets absorbed in it all.
This psychological thriller will have you angry at many of the characters which is an indication of a good read, you become involved with them.
   Well worth your time.

“Four-year-old Florrie is missing. Who has taken her and why.”
If you’re after an entertaining, fast paced psychological thriller with lots of clever twists and turns, then this is for you. The palpable fear of your child going missing from school was enough to keep me listening to this in one sitting. I loved the multiple narrators for the three POV’s.
Many thanks to @dreamscape_media for the ALC 🤩❤️

This is a thriller about a little girl that is abducted and how the days unfold around the mother desperate to find her, and her friends. Everyone has secrets, there are several unexpected twists and it keeps you guessing till the end. So many dysfunctional people. I really didn't know who the bad guy was. I've not read this author before but I'm sure to look for more of her work! The audio was fantastic.

I'm thrilled to share my thoughts on The Other Mother by Miranda Rijks. This book took me on a thrilling and dark journey that I couldn't put down. The pacing was spot on, keeping me engaged throughout, even with its multiple character perspectives.

Rijks did a fantastic job developing all the characters, and their perspectives added depth to the story without making it confusing. The plot felt chillingly realistic, touching on themes relevant to today's world, and the emotional intensity was palpable. However, I have to admit that the very end left me slightly unsatisfied. Without giving away any spoilers, it felt like an attempt to wrap things up neatly, but it didn't quite fit the overall tone of the story. Despite this, The Other Mother is a compelling thriller worth adding to your reading list, especially if you're in the mood for a quick, gripping read. Thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the Advance Audio Copy!

WOW...Lets just say Lorenzo is a piece of work..haha

A suspense thriller worthy of the read. Little Florrie goes missing who is picking her up, who actually picked her up what is going on? Dad (Lorenzo) didnt like him from the start but plays a part in the story, his mother equally your typical saying MIL not approving of the daughter in law. Thrilling twists and turns keep you on your toes.
.
Thank you for the ALC of The other Mother by Miranda Rijks and @NetGalley for my honest opinion.

Thank you NetGalley for an audio version of The Other Mother by Miranda Rijks. This story is super crazy but very interesting. It has a few different povs and you start to see the lives of the people and what is going on beyond the search of the missing Florrie. Almost making it like hmmm who done it. Then even when we figure it out it counties and gets even more insane. The only character I did not like was Elsa, she was rather an annoying teenager so against her mom. But that does add to the dynamic of this story as well. So if you do enjoy suspensful stories, give this one a shot.
