I am rating this story 3.5*.
A little girl is abducted when a friend of the family, Jane, who is also a psychologist, is late picking the girl up from school. The story centers around the circle of friends and their family members and the secrets that they have all been keeping. The plot twists mostly predictable. I couldn’t quite connect with the characters and found some of the content repetitive. The ending seemed disjointed and out of place with the rest of the story.

What a wild ride!! I was hooked from the very beginning. I absolutely could not put this dark domestic thriller down! And the narrators were phenomenal. This gripping story keeps you on your toes with twists and turns until the very end. It’s super fast-paced and a very quick read, filled with characters with lots of secrets. 4.5 rounding up to 5.

eh, i loved the first half and then it seemed to derail. the kidnapper made little sense and my assumptions would have been fun, but eh. That prologue was silly though. I did enjoy Miranda's writing style and i will try more by her.

The Other Mother is a psychological suspense novel about a child going missing, the person who took her, her parents and the woman who was supposed to pick the child up from school on the day of abduction. Apart from the child, I couldn't feel for any of the characters in this novel. They were missing some element of character that would have allowed me to get into them and care about them. While the story was not one that I fully figured out before the reveal, I wasn't shocked or wowed by how the author presented the story. That being said, I did listen to the entire novel, so the book gets some stars for keeping me engaged enough that I stayed with it until the end. The Narrator was fine, but also, not a huge wow.
I never want to dissuade anyone else from reading a book. I have certainly picked up novels or movies, where the reviews were not great, and I felt completely different from the reviews. So, I recommend you make up your own mind about this novel. If it sounds good to you, definitely give it a go! You can even let me know that you thought it was awesome!
Th nk you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to this novel, in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. Miranda Rijks is a great writer. I could not stop listening to this audio. One more chapter and I will know what is going to happen, but till the very end there was still a few twist. A must read.

This domestic thriller keeps you guessing. All the characters have so many secrets, the webs of deceit so plentiful. Enjoy this who done it!

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to listen to this audiobook.
This was my first book of this author and it was alright.
For me it seemed like there were too many characters to keep track of and some plot holes.
It was definitely more fast paced and there were a lot of twists, and ended up being a quick "read".
The ending definitely caught me by surprise.
I will be looking more into this author in the near future.

I listened to the audiobook and while to enjoyed the storyline, the narrators weren’t the best. I did love all the twists and turns throughout and especially the red herrings. I would recommend this one but not as an audiobook.

I really enjoyed the storyline of this one, it was fast-paced and kept me guessing throughout.
When 4 year old Florrie goes missing after being picked up from school by a mystery woman and then seemingly vanishing off the face of the earth, a web of lies and deceit starts to emerge.
Florrie's mother Naomi is an overworked-under appreciated physiotherapist who was relying on her best friend Jane to pick Florrie up from school. Unfortunately Jane was a few minutes late so by the time she arrived, Florrie was gone.
The storyline flows really well and is told through multiple POV's which is always a favourite of mine. The only reason this wasn't quite a 5 star read for me is I listened to the audiobook and I wasn't a huge fan of the narration. I listen to lots of audiobooks but this one was just a little lacking in it's delivery with what seemed like forced accents and stilted reading at times. The story however, I loved.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to listen to this one - definitely a book I would recommend picking up.

The narrators were perfect!
This book starts out as a rich lady dealing with other rich lady issues book but it is much bigger than that. A little girl goes missing and nothing is what it seems.
It was wonderful and twisty.

WHAT?!?! This book had me on the edge of my seat so many times! A roller coaster of emotions.
As each twist comes at you fast you get lost in the characters and how messy the dynamic becomes. Perfect depiction of how
life is twisted together building the fabric of lives that could easily be anyone you may know. Two cheating partners and the havoc it causes for one family. Teenage kids being exactly that and false friends that are truly your enemy. Will Jane make it out of this tale whole?
*The audio edition is easy to listen to if not my favorite.*
I would like to thank #NetGalley and the author #MirandaRijks for my ARC of #TheOtherMother in exchange for an honest review.

****2.75 STARS****
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is 3 star or even lower book for me.
I got an audiobook and I loved the narration and it was a full cast audio by Nicola Delgado-Sievertson; Lorna Bennett; and Emma Fenney.
This book was well paced and it started off really good. The story starts with a child abduction and gets instantly engaging. But soon the character development spirals down, there are too many plot holes and too many extra characters. By the end there were enough twists but it lacked zeal and felt dry.
Some of the relationships created were so weak like they were only put together for the sake of the plot and for being woke I think (the only black person in the book seemed to be always underappreciated, I mean it didn't really add anything to the story). The only lovable characters in the book was Pumpkin. 🤣
All in all the book was only enjoyable because of the audiobook. So if you want to enjoy the book maybe try the audiobook for a good experience. I would have definitely DNF-ed if I was reading the physical copy.

Loved this fast paced twisty read. This book was a quick read and had everything I look forward to in this genre. The book is engaging through out and just a fun read.

Jane is asked to pick up her mom-friends daughter, Florrie, from school when she discovers that Florrie has gone missing. The parents go under scrutiny, and Jane herself is beginning to not be too sure about her own family. On top of that, she starts getting letters to her advice column that seem way too close and knowledgeable for comfort.
I liked the overall premise and storyline. I’m someone that doesn’t mind unlikable characters. I think it highlighted the blind spots that we have when it comes to our own family members and what they might be struggling with, as well as what our friends are having challenges with. There were definitely times that needed suspended belief, and I felt the twist came a bit out of left field that wouldn’t have been able to be predicted because foundation wasn’t laid for it. Overall, still a decent read and I thank Inkubator Books for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This kept me listening with lots of plot twists and surprises. A little girl goes missing, and absolutely nothing is as it seems. I would have liked a little more character development, but overall enjoyed the listen.

This is a book with both positives and drawbacks. While I didn't connect with the characters due to their abundance, the saving grace was the skillfully executed plot twists that maintained my engagement. The narrators, Nicola Delgado-Sievertson, Lorna Bennett, and Emma Fenney, contributed to the overall engagement, although one performance wasn't to my liking. Overall, the book's twists injected suspense, making it worth a read for those who enjoy surprises in their narratives.
A very special thanks to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for the complimentary copy.

Naomi and Lorenzo live in the small village of Bluebell Heath. When her friend Jane is asked to collect their daughter Florence from school, Jane soon discovers that someone else has collected her, but who could done this and where could Florence be now?
I really liked the premise of this book, but unfortunately none of the characters - they were very stuffy, shallow, entitled and totally judgemental. I felt sorry for all their kids with overbearing parents like this and would not in a million years want to be friends with a single one of them, gossiping behind each others backs like children. The only one that seems marginally tolerable is Robert. There were a few good twists throughout but I struggled to enjoy it due to the hoard of unlikeable characters.
I wasn’t a huge fan of some of the narrators or accents , although I’m not sure who was which character in all honesty.
2.5 rounded up,

The Other Mother by Miranda Rijks. I listened to the audio book of this. The narrators were awesome. They really brought the story to life. I do wish the book was a bit more "thrilling." I think I would consider this more of a domestic drama. This story did keep me engaged but there were several slower parts. I did overall enjoy this book. Thanks NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC!
