Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC

The author had a great voice snd unique style, and she had plenty of advice I hadn't heard already while still nanagung to keep it fresh.

I would have preferred to have more time with the book as I do love to give back and take in the advice, but I'm just greatful to have had the oppertunity to read this.

I would recommend this book for anyone wanting to work on their writing style. Young ir old, beginner or professional.

Fantastic

The Writers’ Voice offers valuable exercises for new and experienced writers alike. This book is designed as 12 weekly lessons, but that isn’t the only way to go through it. For example, I read it as I was editing the manuscript for my fourth book, and I appreciated Ann Janzer’s reminders about word choice. There are dozens of ideas that writers can return to when they need a boost or inspiration. I intend to revisit exercises that I didn’t have time to do. All writers can continue to improve their voice to communicate more effectively, and this book is a fantastic resource.

If there's a writer who hasn't read this book, they should, This is a terrific book that gives a lot of inspiration as well as practical how-to in the writing ballgame.

As per usual, Anne breaks down the writing process into easily understood and applicable terms. I really appreciated the exercises that went along with the lessons. Didn't get much of a chance this time around to work on the exercises but this likely a book I will come back to time and time again. I'll surely have plenty of more chances to work in depth with it.

For those of us who love to write, this is a fun book. Twelve weeks of exercises to practice and improve, while away hours with practice in perfect notebooks purchased only for the purpose of the exercises found within “The Writer’s Voice”. As a teacher, I think there are some practice tools that I can adapt for classroom use, but I do not think I could get 150 ninth-graders through twelve weeks of voice. Maybe I am wrong. I don’t know that I would be willing ti try it right now.

For me, though- I am hoping there are other books forthcoming. I think they would be a welcome guide for writing improvement.

3.5 stars. Simply put, this is a workbook specifically focusing on Voice that applies to many genres and writing purposes such as branding and ghostwriting. It is divided into 12 parts for 12 weeks by two major factors—six weeks for The Scribe and six weeks for The Muse.

The Scribe is author's term to explain about our critical and technical side, while The Muse is our inner creativity. To me, The Muse part still has The Scribe feel to it, with detailed prompts and exercises. So this book is perfect for 'plotters' or writers who prefers and work best with structured plans. For intuitive writers, the rich instructions can be used as checklists to discover whether our work is already on the right track or still need improvement especially in the nitty gritty of word choice, sentence and paragraph flow, punctuation, all that jazz.

The Writer's Voice also addresses the word 'writer' in broader terms, so it includes nonfiction, academic, even copywriting. I didn't realize at first that 'brand' here is not only for writing advertisement but also for branding ourselves as writers. I am particularly curious about fancy/folksy exercise and the email (tone) ones, those sounds like a lot of fun! Another fascinating thing I found is what the author called Servant Authorship, that I believe is close to Genre Expectation in fiction. While the content is mostly educational and feels like a writing course labwork, it also honors writer's intention, emotion, and readership, with a bit of personal experience stories and friendly pep talks, which I appreciate.

I too want to appreciate /the voice/ of the author that is not too formal, and not unpleasantly informal either. It's right on the sweet spot in the middle. I really enjoyed the footnotes, by the way! Voice is rarely discussed in writing environment so this book is a breath of fresh air and I did gain some meaningful and useful insights. If you are a seasoned writer or already familiar with writing and want to up your game in writing style, try practicing with this book.

(The author is also kind enough to provide extra materials like printables and quiz on her websites! Be sure to check them out 😀)

I think this is the third book I've read by Anne Janzer, and this is a book you’re going to want to read at least twice, or at least I know I am. I read this straight through over a few days, but now I need to go back and read it as it envisioned/structured as a 12 week course with each week focused on different aspects/techniques to develop your ‘writing voice’. But even then it’s split up a bit more. During the first six weeks the focus is on outer voice and the last six weeks focus on inner voice. The book is loaded with solid advice, and I have little doubt I’ll find myself referring back to much of it again and again. Thanks so much to Cuesta Park Consulting and NetGalley for the chance to read and review an eARC.

Anne Janzer's "The Writer's Voice" lives up to the high standards set by her previous guides. Much like her previous works, this book is concise, lucid, and immediately actionable. Even as a seasoned writer, I found myself learning a great deal from the insightful content, often wishing I had access to such valuable guidance earlier in my writing journey to avoid common pitfalls.

Don't be fooled by the tiny word count. The Writer's Voice: Techniques for Tuning Your Tone and Style by Anne Janzer packs a punch. I found so many valuable exercises I'd never come across in other writing books. Practices that made me slow down, move words around and think about my vocabulary. From punctuation to sentence rhythm - nothing is off-limit.

This is definitely a workbook. Each chapter is based on a week's worth of exercises, centered around a theme. And I love that they're not just thinking exercises, but you have to physically move words around or play with structure. It's so active, it doesn't feel like editing at all. Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to review this eARC in exchange for my honest review on the book!

The Writer's Voice is a writing reference book by Anne Janzer that is a quick and easy read. The most important thing in writing is establishing a writer's voice. Often, a review of a writer's writing will say that the person didn't connect with the writer's voice or they loved the writer's voice. So finding your voice when delivery a story is incredibly important to connect with readers. This is a great beginner book but to be used with more descriptive books.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

I have read other books by Anne Janzer and was not disappointed with this one. It is a workbook full of practical exercises to help you discover your voice as a writer. Many of the exercises were new to me and they are all easy to understand and implement. The book is aimed at beginners but I would also recommend it to more seasoned writers as often, more experience can result in less attention given to the basics of writing, so perhaps everyone can learn a thing or two from this book and improve their craft.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for this ARC.

Clearly Structured..
Finding your voice as a writer is explored in this relatively short volume of helpful tips, advice and exercises and part of The Writers Process Series . It has been nicely and clearly structured to provide a twelve section/week writing course. Helpful at all levels although particularly beneficial for a new writer in either fiction or non fiction alike.
